To change the subject, anybody want to buy a prison?

Our local jail was put up for sale, at the low low price of $6 million!

I want to see someone buy that and make it into an office.

EDIT:

Kind of on that topic, I hust saw something on History today about a guy who bought a Nike (or something) missile silo in Kansas and turned it into a residence for his family. Well, umm....I bet he has plenty of room to put his Christmas guests in. OTOH, I bet he doesnt get too many christmas guests.
Nike made missile silos?!?!?...

Yes. They are manufactured in Indonesia by workers making $3 a day and shipped to Kansas and the Dakotas.

Anyone good with cars?

I stopped for gas on the way home in the rain and turned my car off while fueling up. When I got back in the lights worked but when I turned they key nothing happened. No noise no nothing. The car finally took a jump and now seems to work fine.

I have ruled out the battery due to having power and the starter due to the lack of a clicking noise. Could this just be a fluke condition caused by the rain?

Being a genius (certified) I have a complete lack of mechanical skills. I really hope my dilithium crystals don't need to be changed again since they are expensive.

Three bucks??? They must have a really good union. Nike usually pays something like 8 cents a day!

RUPD, how long did you have to try and start the car before it finally started? How old is the car? My first thought is it might be the starter solinoid. If it is working but your battery was dead you would have heard a click. It could also be the igition switch itself, but starter solinoids tend to go out, not ignition switches. Your problem is almost guranteed to be electrical. It's also suspicious that it happened while it was raining. Is it possible that something just got wet and dried out enough to work.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Agreed...It could be a number of things depending on the age of the car.

Delayed going to the party. Looks like the GF units brother got let go from his job today. He's a really great guy, very intelligent (possibly a genius), but he spends way too much time in his own head, if you know what I mean. He tends to be a bit of a dreamer also. A stint in the military would do him a world of good. He needs a job where he is forced to focus on the task at hand and learn some discipline. I'm not one of those people that thinks this such a thing is just beyond some people. A little more self-confidence and self-respect would do him a world of good too.

yep. Really need to start with identifying what sort of starter system the car has. If memory serves, older model cars that still use the cap and rotor distributor system might exihibit that sort of problem. If the cap and rotor get wet the car won't start. However, I don't remember if the car is silent or if it fires wrong.

Departure to the party is delayed.

I actually got out Thursday night, but the roads are still pretty rough. My home has a garage that opens on to an alley. If I can make it out of the alley the roads are passable.

I too, think it may be the starter solenoid.

But you have to be careful with my car advice. Do you remember those pictures I posted a few hundred pages back of the jeep battery cables burned almost beyond recogonition?

It is a lousy time of year to be let go though.

It really is. Also, he worked so hard to get this job. Passed his CPA exams with flying colors. I don't know what happened but I will almost gurantee he spent too much work time sending personal emails and stuff (Niceguy notices the irony in how much he has spammed this board at work). He just gets bored too easily.

I made a comment to Terminus today about Russia. In the game, if I read the intelligence screens correctly, the Russians get no land reinforcements for 2 years. If this is true (since their griund units seem to perform marginally) I now think the Japanese player should always invade Russia. It's base points and resources seem to be easy pickings.

Comments anyone?

2002 Chevy Impala. Only weird electrical quirk it has is that in the lat 6 months the blinkers often stop working. If I hit the 4 way flashers (which always work) this seems to fix the problem and the blinkers will start working again.

That sounds like a bimetal solenoid issue. Methinks you might have a ground somewhere in the electrical system.

I'm actually working on Christmas (need any more reasons why I'm so anxious to leave this job?). But I am looking at 4 days off for New Years (though not by the choice of my employers).
