Status: offline 		I take it by the end of December 1941.  Usually I commit more troops then normal to the attack so I get it quicker.  Those troops then roll into Java. 

This is usually done at the expense of taking the Philippines with any quickness.  They can sit and wither on the vine...

I flew and shipped in extra Supply, costs a few AK on your last run but IMHO worth it. I also fly/ship in extra Supply to Manila/Bataan.

Status: offline 		This is largly dependent on Jap. Strategy... if playing Unhistorical start Jap's can land in Mersing or Johore in force on turn one, with sufficient naval support to fend of Force Z Singers is a goner in the first week

In my CHS game with Spence it fell Feb 2. Not sure what he did to add or subtract to it defense, although he did contest my advance down the peninsula.

Status: offline 		It depends greatly on what Japan does, but the allies can influence the outcome some. If Japan follows a historical start and the Allies don't heavily reinforce or resupply then end of Dec is about the best one can do. WIth lots of supply it could last until Feb or March. If Japan commits extra force or lands closer to Sing then less earlier.

I never had, but then I count myself lucky if I still hold it in February. I do run in extra supplies - or attempt too. Usually Singapore airfield gets closed early then the transport ships tend to be Nell and Betty fodder.

Also where do people defend? Everything back to Singapore as soon as possible?

And String do you land in extra places to take it in December, maybe stopping the allies getting everything back to Singapore? Or just move in with extra troops? Do you do this using the first day move or can this be done with the 'historic' positions? Cheers!

Status: offline 		I have only really played one PBEM where I had to defend Sing. Against the AI it is just different.

In a PBEM I would never commit extra troops its suicide. I try to resupply as best as I can. Once my AKs start sinking I run in Fast Transport destroyers to carry some supply. From Batavia it is a short jump for them to Sing.

You have to guage your opponents intentions and adjust to them. If he is clearly focused on Sing you do what you can with what you have got and prepare your defensive lines in Burma, India and Java. If his attention is diverted though and he isn't using overwhelming force then there is a chance to sneak in some resupply and some troops, or extra air power and really make it tough for him. IMO this is what is happening when you hear players say that they are still defending Sing into March or April. The Japanese player isn't using enough force. If I were a Japanese player this is the single most important place I would focus my effort the first 2-3 weeks of the war.

I didn't reinforce and except for some aviation support troops (most of an ISF) and one Brigade of infantry that was reduced to hardly more than a pair of subs' worth of cargo I didn't pull any land units out.  Part of the AVG, some Dutch Buffalos and some B-17s based there during late Dec and early Jan for a few turns but the Zeros cleaned the fighters out and his bombers made the place untenable for all but a few strays from about the 10th of Jan.  With heavy losses the Malaya Air Force did come out with all its units.  Only a small amount of supply made it in.

I'm not sure it matters if the defenders try a fighting retreat or use the Castle Sing strategy. I think the fighting defence actually hurts if the allies fight to the point of forced retreat. All the disablements from the retreat weaken the units and drain vital supplies. A really successful fighting retreat down the Malaya peninsula might be one of the toughest manuveurs to pull off. There are so many ways to flank the defenders with sea borne invasion (as Graycompany did to me). However, if successful it can slow down the advance enough to build up the Sing forts.

The other thing I have seen the Japanese player do, which is really like shooting himself in the foot is a piece meal crossing of the river to attack the Sing fort. Each individual unit shock attacking on its own can render the invading army useless for quite a while.

Status: offline 		I think I can hold indefinitly.  I usually concentrate troops up at Alor Star and turn it into the Asian Gustav Line.  What always gets me is that once Kuantan falls the Japs can outflank my defenses and then i have to fall back and Malacca and Johore can never hold.  By the time my troops get to Singapore they are ineffective.

The game I am currently playing though The US 24th, 25th, 27th and Americal Divs are holding Mersing and the 2 Mar Div and 7th Armd Bde are holding Malacca keeping the Japs from sweeping around my Alor Star Front.  Its May and I think Singapore is going to hold

Status: offline 		Against the AI I have held both Singapore and Manilla until the end of the war (Japan burned to the ground in 1943).

In PBEM I took Manilla in Dec 41 and Singapore in Jan 42 but both cost me.
