Been waiting for the paras.....I know that Luskan likes to use them but have been a bit surprised that it has taken this long for them to show up......supply probelms?  Aircraft numbers problems?  He forgot about them?    I had no intention of defending Akyab, it has served it purpose of being an air-bridge for the RAF fleeing Singers.

Just a request when posting the AAR. When SDB's are involved in the naval strike with Army bombers, please mention when 1000lb'ers score hits as they have a larger punch than the normal 500lb bombs.

Well, the paratroops were initially slated for Java, but things were going so well there that I didn't even bother to send them in.  They're going to do some behind the scenes base grabbing in Burma and China for a while.

Well, KB sailed past Maleaop and Raver's level bombers, dauntlesses and wildcats tried to squish it! A huge air battle ensued, and KB emerged undamaged and victorious - looks like it cost me 30 planes (and about 21 pilots?) all zeros, whil it cost Raver a whole lot more - about 120 planes all up.  Foolish move on my part - could have ended badly - lesson learnt.

In other news, another 4000 allied troops march off into captivity as another island off java falls.  Oh, and my paratroops took Akyab without much of a fight.

Unsuccessful attacks across the board at Clark and Manila.  Just nothing budging there - the troops are well supplied and supported, but exhausted.  My fresh troops on Java have 1/100th the firepower but they've conquered 75% of it in a few days.  They got held up at Tjilitjap this turn, but that was because my armoured spearhead was shock attacking & pursuiing the enemy to keep the momentum rolling.

I continue to bomb Singapore, and this turn reveals how few aircraft Raver has left at Malaeop.  I'm waiting for a resupply convoy . . .

Luskan straffs my only resupply ship at Singers.  She was on her third re-supply run, and this time her luck ran out.  But while she is badly damaged the remaining cargo can still be unloaded.  The troops at singers are now well and truely on their own.  Supplies (or lack of them) are going to the reason for the fortress falling.

Aussie troops storm the shores at Thursday Island as part of stage one in the retaking of PM.  This will be the clearest signal to Bananana boy that Iam serious about PM but it is pretty hard to hide such an event.

The boy wonder conducts the biggest air raid to date on Maloelap and my air defences are found wanting.  I'm going to have to do something to prevent these raids from getting worse.  Lucky for me his bombers are crappy and they only do 10% damage to the airfield.

For now they're crappy - but you can expect that to change when (if) singapore and Manila fall.

I started bombing manila this turn - not a lot of damage, but it is a start.  Same with Maleaop.  I'm going to reduce Maleaop a bit (like I did Wotje a bit) but I'm really hanging out fo any allied resupply convoys there.  Any free transports Raver sends my way now are transports I don't have to worry about later.  With 1 CV damaged and another one sunk, Raver won't want a CV vs CV clash for another few months at least, so it is too much to hope that they stray into range too often.

As for Thursday island . . . well Raver was just checking how dangerous PM, GG, Rabaul and Lae would be to an invasion.  I'll be taking steps to rectify the complete and total lack of japanese response to the allied invasion very soon!

Good to see the Jap being made to run around like a blue-arsed fly, and its only March 42.

Keep him rushing about Raver, he cant afford to loose those Carriers, one day your LBA will get him.

Whats next, a push from Alaska!!

The 12th of March and Singers and the PI still hang on !  I can only imagine what this is doing to ratbrain's time table   Having said that the supply at Singers is now critical with the troops forced to start eating rice and fish, with some meat from local cattle and pigs that have been butchered. Ammo is also very low.  The PI is looking better at Clark but Manila is in the same boat as Singers.  There is no hope of re suppyling any of these bases.

I know Raver is up to something, because I've had KB floating aruond off Maleaop and Wotje and Tarawa and NOTHING is moving around down there.  Means he's got everything somewhere else.

 Luskan,

What exactly did you send to Manila and Singapore? I use 3 full divisions and 2 Engineer Reg, along with at least 2-3 Artillery units along with a HQ to each location. I use 1 division and a brigade to hold at Lingayan in case my opponents start moving troops to Manila. I will sometimes move another divsion to Lingayan along with 2 Engineer Reg and a HQ to Lingayan when I get ready to make my push right before Manila falls.

2 Divisions (usually the 21st and 38th) begin the push for Java around Jan 42 if not sooner. I learned that the hard way against Panzerjager Hortland. I waited till Feb 42 to invade Batvia and met the 18th UK division and a slew of US a/c along with Aus and Brit a/c and troops. Plus most of the US and Brit Navy. I have most of the Southern Area Army in 3 different bases on Java without supplies, own no base, and have a devestated transport fleet to boot.

Singers is using around 500 to 800 supply points a day (more when Luskan bombs the place) and subs can only carry less that 50 supply points ?

Raver is a liar.  Look back over our last 6 AARs and you'll find at he lies - a lot.  Sure, he plans to take PM back, sometime in 1944.

Before then, he isn't going near the place.  He doesn't have the resources.

Singapore is finally starting to crumble - just needed fresh troops.  Once Singapore falls, I'll be flush with troops.

If you want to capture oil at Palembang intact (or mostly intact) this is a very unhealty way. It has been documented that every unsuccessful attack increases the chance for damaging resources and oil.

There is no guarantee that you will capture these resources intact but it seems the following tactic works in most cases:

-bomb base from the air, sea and ground for a week (this will disable most of his eng squads)
- attack with overhelming force to make sure you will capture Palembang in one turn
- bring engineers with you - a lot of them. Some people said that construction unit eng helps in capturing oil and resources intact, but that could be their impression. Anyway, when i'm attacking rich base i do it with overhelming force and lot of eng units (both combat and construction eng)

From those numbers, Palembang will not be captured at all -- but I'd bet the farm Luskan has more troops moving in that direction. The idea of capturing more resources if you have eng units is interesting. Maybe the game assumes that engineers know how to disarm explosive charges? But thanks to some remarkable luck on Raver's part, many of Luskan's engineers seem to be occupied at Singapore and in the PI.

All true.

Although Singapore is slipping (finally) bit by bit.  4 more days at the most - then I'll make short work of Sumatra (i'll have Java finished by then) and the PI.

Then I'll do some reinforcing in other areas before my next offensive.
