There may be some contanimation on the elements. When the elements heat, the material could be out gassing creating fumes that are bothering your wife and dogs.

OK there, boyo....fess up....what did you do with it?

Went to bed and woke up this morning and it was gone. Can't trust the Martians, I tell you.

This goes without saying.

A likely story..."woke up and it was gone"....you are just a picture of innocence. Cuff him, boys.

Robert I just looked at the web to see how likely my explaination is. Most sites say ceramic heaters have very low outgassing properties. I am still wondering if something got on the elements. Have you looked to see if the elements appear clean?

HI Robert. What is an electric ceramic heater?

Well, as best i understand it, it is an electric heater and the heating elements somehow incorporate ceramics. There are also ceramic heaters that are powered by natural gas or propane.

i'd have to take it apart, i think. At any rate, she bought a quartz heater to replace it.

Indeed...we need something light to counter the painfully typical moral bash-a-thon developing on the main forum. (Why....did i venture back?...must have been the THREAD....it has gravity. )

What is going on in the main forum?* i have avoided going there for some weeks now...

Well, you are the MD, but if it is making her sick replace it. It's not worth the trouble.

Close....an obviously "Lets bash Japan some more" thread about Nanking was started which has already brought some of the usual suspects out of the woodwork that live for them. It centers around, from what Terminus describes, a typical propaganda style film on it designed to emphasize the Japanese are evil angle. {i havn't seen it myself]

I've read Iris Chang's book on Nanking already as i had a genuine interest in learning more about the Rape of the city, the how and why, the players etc etc. I doubt any of the firebrands currently 'reminding' us on how evil Japan was in WWII have done the same. Its just another opp to jump on the soapbox and vent rightious hate. GF unit has a point when she says "it [the war] was 60+ years ago......move on!"

moving on of course doesn't mean 'forgetting', just learn from it and get off the soap box.

So I take it from your comments that the debate is not about the event itself but how it should be viewed over time? or what it says about the culture in which it happened?

More or less. For example, noone in the thread....not me, not Terminus, not anyone denies that Nanking happened. (Chang's book includes coverage of postwar attempts to downplay the "attrocity" by radical Japanese elements for example). Personally i believe it happened as bad as Chang reports (Aspects of her book were challenged in part by other authors) I did make a point of stressing that "Nankings" did not happen all over the place while acknowledging that it was indeed in China that the 'worst' of the IJA came to the forfront. It was a nasty war. So that said....what is the point of the thread? Do we need to be reminded that the Japanese were the "bad guys" 60 years after the event?

But if you read the thread you'll quickly see that its not really about Nanking, or the plight of the Chinese....its just an excuse to wave the moral club. After reading Chang's book i didn't feel the need to post about it here, talking about how nasty those (*&(* Japs were.

I still recall the 'last' time Nanking came up here......it quickly develoved down to playing "who's country commited the greater attrocities?" At one point Nanking was being compared to the genocide of Native Americans with the "Japan sucks" side dismissing the other as minor compared to the gross actions of the Japanese. I'm sure that made the vicitims here in North America feel better.

Indeed.....i mentioned it in that thread..(buried of course now) but one of the most facinating aspects of the book was recollections from Japanese draftees during their indoctrination period in China. It was pretty chilling. Here you had actual Japanese army soldiers fresh from Japan greeting some of the IJA 'veterans' and getting chills up their spine at the cold hardness in the eyes of those veterans. They didn't seem like human beings anymore. It reminded me of some of the similar type descriptions i'd read during the Vietnam war.

The effect of war on humans of all nations is one reason why i'm keen to see Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima", a unique Pacific War movie, made by an American but viewed from the Japanese side. I hear it contains the full range....from attrocity to heroism.....cowardice and courage....mercy and ruthlessness. A must see in my opinion.

I just found someone in that thread insinuating that he'd rather take his chances in a firebombing.....as a smart man once said, "well, there's your problem right there".

I say take all that stuff to the Mad Cow place. Of all I've seen of it at least I can be comfortable in the fact that everyone there is an idiot.....not really for their views, but merely for being there.

BTW....I'm still not clear, T. Can MB be installed on a preexisting vanilla install, or does it require a clean copy?

It doesn't overwrite anything in a standard stock install. All the art (plane and ship) are in already empty slots...

Do I need to replace the art files?

Eh? You will get asked whether you want to replace some shipsides, but those are the placeholder shipsides, i.e. all the extra Yamatos and Iowas. The planeside and planetop files must also be replaced with the ones included in my mod, but they won't do anything to any ongoing game, since the new art is placed in empty slots.
