Yes, that's true Kkoovvoo, but it's better for Imperial morale to boast about major enemy setbacks

I have moved the Southern Area Army to Manila with 50k supplies.
This way we should keep our air units with spares for quite some time to come.
From Manila the HQ will provide support to bases as far away as Takao (9 hexes).

Expecting Andy to move against Borneo, Burma and the PI in 1945 and then jump towards the Okinawas
and the Home Islands by late 45 early 46.

He could also go back to the Marianas, jump into the Bonins and stage towards the Home Islands.
Think he got burned first time though, so I've reduced defenses here.

ALL my Frank Ia in production have been switched over to the Frank Ic FB version - which
got less good A2A capabilities. Matrix, ALARM - it's a real problem that you can't retain certain models
in production! *Grumble*

Andy is NOT running out of supplies, his Superforts have been operating around the clock in Malaya over the
last week. Sing is down to 46k supplies, hope it all gets burned away before the place falls. Can't save it
as long as 1000 bombers pound it every day.

Still, work on the defenses of the 'Citadel' is well advanced. Got more than 1000AP at Manila and Takao alone.
Also got 500 AS stacked in Manila. The Base Force units evacuated from forward bases will rest and be distributed
to the bases that need them. This will of course be decided by Andy's choice of targets.

If I were him I would be in Luzon, not Manila by now...

I'm not too worried Medck! I ran a lot of supplies into Singapore several months ago.
Found that I didn't have the strength to defend all of Malaya and concentrated on Sing.

Fortress Singapore

Supplies in early July: 96k
Supplies in mid November: 69k

Andy will have to work hard to starve this garrison....

A loss of 26K supplies in 4 months -- with only about a week of serious attacks on the ports/airfields. I'm guessing that means the troops themselves consume at a rate of about 6000 per month (200 per day). How much do the repairs cost? It would be interesting to see what the supply situation is like in a week or two to get a general projection on when supply might be exhausted. At this point, my guess would be 2 months tops (with bombing and fighting) which should enable you to fight at full-strength against any attacks by his Malaysian army for maybe 6 weeks?

Supplies in early Dec - 46K
A loss of 20K in about 20 weeks. I think we might have beena bit over-optimistic about Singapore's ability to resist -- although the sustained attacks from Superforts have been a bit of a surprise...

Yes, the sustained attacks by massive formations of Superforts have reduced supplies quickly.
I'm quite surprised at how easy it is to operate such large bomber formations on relatively small amounts
of supply. There haven't been that many supply convoys to Malaya, and there are some 350k enemy troops on the
Peninsula as well as ca 1000 ac.

The good thing is that Andy won't capture that many supplies when Singapore falls.

I'm preparing to move my aviation regiments from Bangkok and Palembang east towards Camranh Bay and Singapore.
When Singapore falls Andy will bomb anything within fighter range into rubble. I'm confidend that we can protect
bases beyong P-38 escort range. I will try to provide 250+ AS for bases with more than 6 airfields.

A last convoy with 100k supplies from India is passing Kuching - Borneo right now. Will resupply the PI bases.

I'm basically setting the next major line of defense from Hong Kong - Formosa - Luzon.
This creates a reduced perimeter box resting on the Marianas in the South.

My goal is to keep the Home Islands intact throughout the war. If we can manage this, I will be content.

Just inspected the fleet and I noticed that all my 8 Akizuki class fleet destroyers are ready for their 12/44 upgrade.
Quite amazing that non have been lost despite all the action they've been through. There are still 4 in production.

Recon shows minimal enemy activity in the Marshalls. Lots of enemy ships at Pearl. Pretty sure Andy will continue his push from
Malaya. Which direction I don't know..the more time I get to prepare the Citadel for assault, the more difficult it will be
to get to the Home Islands. That's the only thing that I can guaruantee right now. The rest is up to Andy.

Frank 1A vs Frank 1C

Here you see the problems caused by auto upgrade.
The Frank 1A is a much better ac than the Frank 1C - it even carries a 250kg bomb.
The so called FB version, the 1C carries 2 30kg bombs. The only advantage the 1C got is slightly heavier gun armament.
Speed, manouver and climb all suffers.

Me thinks Matrix have mixed the stats and that the Frank 1A should only be able to carry 2 30kg bombs and the 1C a 250kg bomb.
As it is I'm now forced to produce only the inferior 1C version. Got some 1000 1A's in the pools. Hopefully this will be enough.
Will upgrade 2 Tojo units to the Frank 1C and test it in battle,

Some datas were corrected in patches, unfortunately database changes dont apply for running games:

IC version now has top speed 388 mph, carries 2 x 25O kg AP bombs and its maneuverability is 34.
IA version wasnt changed (it still carries 2 x 25O kg AP bombs).

Stats of IC in your game...arent promising...

Singapore falls after causing some 22k enemy casualties.
Let's see how long the besieged defenders can hold out!

I've relocated my aviation regiments. Camhranh Bay is now a stronghold out of
enemy fighter range. Will pile up trained fighters here, in Clark/Manila and Takao.
Palembang remains heavily defended for now.

Several large enemy convoys are leaving Oz. Heading were?

The Akitsukis were so large that the were indeed almost CL size and were often mistaken as CL's by allied pilots.

That's true, but at 13 VP they give a lot of bang for the buck!

Just had a realization: Andy is going after targets that provide him with the most VP.
Score is now some 73k for Japan and 61k for Allies. Andy is very set on winning, and he still got a
lot of points to cover!

Going against heavily defended targets towards the PI, China, Formosa, Marianas, Okinawas - and
ultimately Home Islands, will cost him a lot of time and casualties.

So I actually think Andy will move back into India! Must be at least 5k of bases worth there.
Will start patroling the Indian Ocean with patrol boats and Glen equipped subs just in case.
Most of the enemy shipping is concentrated in Northern Oz, DEI, and now Malaya.

A Chinese unit moved into Mytikina in Burma/China today. I had moved out the garrison as malaria
reduced effectiveness to 10. There are 9 forts, so I ordered the airlift of a regiment by 150 transports.
There are 5 af there to welcome them. Hopefully it will hold.

It's not very fruitful to play Japan in 1944, 45. Extremely few options due to the various limitations.
No air attacks aganist CAP'ed targets, no ships can get within 6-7 hexes of enemy carriers or LBA.
This limits our options quite substantially. So perhaps we should try to come up with something to surprise
Andy. The question is: what could this be?

I will wait and see were Andy's attention is turned after Singapore before making and decisions, but suggestions
would be welcome

Converted a Tojo unit into the Frank 1C today. It's an improvement over the Tojo, but it's only usefull as a bomber
interceptor because of the severe handicap it suffers as a FB. Carrying those 2 30kg bombs is really breaking its neck <G>.

Will move the Combined Fleet back to Japan soon, going to rejoin the KB and prepare it for opportunity strikes.
One Fast Carrier Striking Force, one light raiding force.

Not much to report, no ground and all the usual milk runs from the air.
The enemy ground unit that was spotted at Mytikina was a very weak Indian Base Force.
A rarity.... It ran away by itself.

Had left some transports to pick up troops from Singapore. This didn't work when I owned
the place and the airfields were closed. Forgot them and after Andy repaired them they went in <G>
Obviously another bug, but I don't complain. Picked up framgents of the stranded division, so it
can soon be rebuilt

The Combined Fleet is moving to the Home Islands. Will rebuild the KB in a few days.

Most of the stranded troops in Northern NG have been evacuated to Palau.
Will move them to the PI after some R&R.

Got some gracious offers from the Matrix guys and Andy!
The Frank versions can be fixed according to the latest stock versions
PDU could also be turned on - I've already told Andy that this game was started as a non-PDU game,

uh, i should read more careful (but i doubt that this is possible after last night beer party)...

I can understand his position, but PDU Candyland would offer you at least a chance for something - while he could downgrade his Hellcat airgroups and distribute them in way he want (IIRC that is what he wrote somewhere previously, just after Mariana "invasion")

Anyway, at least you have Zeke kamikazes!

In our company Xmas 'party' alchohol was outlawed

That's it Pauk - Andy thinks PDU will favor Japan more than Allies, and even though he would be ok with
an upgrade to PDU he doesn't favor it personally. I think this should be a mutual beneficial decision, so
we're going to give him the hammer without it

Have you started George production? It's clearly your best figther...

Yes, i'm aware that this candyland doesn't have anything with the history. It is not a logical that Japan can outproduce Allies so i understand Andy. It is questionable that PDU in late phase of war would favor Japan more than Allies - once when Allies recives 38J, 47Ds and even 51s there is nothing that Japan can do about it, i'm afraid...

The main benefit of PDU in late stage of the war for the Japan is for defending purposes - with plenty of Tonies, Tojos instead poor Oscars Allies can not allow themselves to bomb industry in HI without escort or with weak escort.

about Georges - now you are the one who is impatient, i've just enetered into August '43. But already have a good news - they will be ready in service well before 44-01, i'm sure... think that i've posted industry screen recently in my AAR

There should be some compromise between stock and PDU me thinks.
A player should be given the opportunity to upgrade 1 Army/Navy air group each month.
Then the Oscars would slowly be upgraded and it would still not be possible to only field top notch fighters.

Well, just a few more months - then you will have a fighter that when flown by high exp pilots - will be a match for most Allied fighters.
That will only be true when fighting over your own turf, and with superior numbers or against unescorted bombers, but still

I'm waiting for the next turn from Andy - it's going via Matrix as Joe & Co has been kind enough to give us a Xmas present
The Frank FB version will be upgraded according to stock stats! This is excellent news and will make it possible to field a reasonable number
of capable bomber interceptors in the last year of the war.

I'm also saving up as many PPs as possible, want to extract a high exp div from China and increase the size of our strategic reserve.

I do beleive this AAR is doing a lot of good in many ways, other than being entertaining. It is really a robust play test for the late war, a part of the game that has never recieved that much attention.

Maybe if we are lucky some of the lessons learned can be applied to mods or even (shall I say it?) another patch.

Once again, great AAR PzB.

PzB, something comes on my mind when you stated that you can't get airstrikes with more than 200 ac... did you have problems with that from the begining of the game or this was started by certain date?

I mean, could it be connected with BF sound detectors upgrade to the radar, which is broken and doesn't work? (IIRC someone made tests and conclude that is better to have sound detectors than broken radar)

Thx! I hope this 'testing' will do the game and other players some good.
It's also nice to get help from Matrix. Now the Frank Ic has been upgraded according to
latest stock version and got a top speed of 388 mph with heavier guns and 2x250 kg bombs.

Think most Base Force Units have radar now Pauk. Have to check it out and see whether there
are any 'listening posts' left Soon there will be 5 bases in the PI with 6-9 AF and 250+ AS.
Add major bases on Formosa and in China it will be lethal for Andy to get close. Can't wait...

A huge enemy fleet, carriers and all, is moving up the slot between Java and Borneo. Not going to interve
as there is no way to get a single ac through the CAP.

was your radar fixed?? If it wasn´t fixed then it´s even worse than having sound detectors. The base forces did get radar before also, but the radar didn´t work. IIRC it was never fixed in a patch (at least that´s what people are telling).

I think Joe told me it was fixed in one of the patches, but not sure this is 'enough'!
All sound detectors seems to have been 'upgraded'.

The Japs didn't have much use of radar in WWII, but in WitP the Allies are having too much
of an advantage of it. Way too many ac on CAP at all times...and this is lethal with the current

I think Joe told me it was fixed in one of the patches, but not sure this is 'enough'!
All sound detectors seems to have been 'upgraded'.

Clarification: No radar (of any kind) has been "fixed" in any patch since Don and I got involved (1.8.0.0 on). There may have been something done in 1.6 ... 1.6 was the ONLY data change patch I'm aware of. Since then we've only been changing the code. What is supposed to be "wrong" with the radar at this point?

The penetration value (which serves as a flag, 0 or 500) is wrong, so the radar functions as surface detection instead of air detection.

Now, that´s not encouraging to me... Since I know what outcome it can have to raise the detection level of ac with radar and then getting the bounce all the time ---> this can result in huge differences in a2a, not to talk about the fact that you bring up far more fighters...

Ah, that's a data issue (as opposed to a code issue) and Don and I haven't addressed any data issues yet, we've been focused on code issues. I do think Pry is working on some data corrections though and I think these are on his list.

I've been aware of the lack of coordinated air strikes ok
Still, what can't be achieved by surprise and cunning has to be done by brute force.

Filled up the air bases in northern Java, Borneo and Southern Sumatra and let Andy have it
today. Prize was heavy, but mostly in obsolete ac and untrained kamikaze units.

Results were acceptable:

51 Hellcats
27 Wildcats
15 Corsairs

1 battleship torpedoed and hit by kamikaze
Carrier Essex hit by Zeke kamikaze
1 CVE hit by kamikaze

Cost:

Some 480 ac including:

77 Zekes - mostly untrained kamikazes
52 BS Oscar IIs
39 Randy's - I need their long legs
36 Grace
32 Nick - semi trained kamikazes
29 Judy
24 untrained Sally kamikazes
24 Frances
22 Bettys
11 Sonias

The fighters that caused Andy grief:
30 Frank
30 Tonys
30 George
13 Jacks

Andy will have to struggle to replace his experienced carrier pilots at least.
I still got large air reserves, just trying to find an opportune moment to release them.

Well, this was the Xmas present from Imperialb HQ

Merry Xmas Everyone!
