Just got divided ground from nws and suffer from the looping sound effects. I tried the fixes in the other thread with no success. Any more suggestions.... using win xp pro, I'm really frustrated with this bug.

Before anything else, be sure you have applied the 1.02 patch, get it here from the Patch Scrolls site. Don't know if it helps, but it wouldn't hurt!

Are you saying you tried turning down the sound hardware acceleration? You find that by right clicking on the speaker icon in your system tray and selecting "Adjust Audio Properties". You'll get a new window titled "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties". Click on the "Volume" tab, then click on the *bottom* "Advanced..." button. You'll get a new window titled "Advanced Audio Properties". Click the "Performance" tab. Adjust the slider labeled "Hardware acceleration". I turned mine down one notch below "Full" and that fixed my looping problem.

If you have done this and the game sound effects still loop, trying lowering the slider even more. And of course restart the game each time.

Please let us know if this works or not. Good luck!!!

Yeesh, don't know what to suggest now. If you've entirely turned off sound acceleration and you still have looping... hmm. Only thing I can suggest is to go post over at the http://www.theblitz.org/  CS message board. Some might have a suggestion.

BTW, what kind of sound card or set up do you have?

Does the game still loop after a fresh restart?

If so, you potentially could have too many programs starting up with the start-up of your machine?

Usually a save and restart of the game will remedy the sound-looping problem.

Take care and good luck

2skoop, are you still having problem with your sound?

I looked over at the Xtreme gamer CS forums and the only thing there we haven't already talked about was rolling back your version of DirectX from version 9 to version 8. It *might* be possible to just roll back the DirectX sound components, but I don't know how.

The other thing that might be of help would be to reformat the sound files. I never had to do this, but it's about the only thing I can think of that might have some effect. Of course you need some kind of audio editor that allows you to change the sound sampling. As long as the sound file name and extension don't change of course. Lowering the sample rate might work. Best to try this on one file and if it works, well, hopefully you have a batch converter. If this method works for you on one file, let me know the new sampling rate and maybe we can come up with a batch converter freeware, there's bound to be one out there.

If you are still around, try talking to Chris at NWS. Maybe he can help or work something out. I haven't seen yours on ebay yet.

I play all my games with the sound OFF. Does anyone know if this will stop the looping problem? (Before I buy this game)

I read somewhere that Helos cannot climb slopes. True?

When I had the looping I turned the sound off via the menu option and of course, no more sound looping . Since the sounds are on the hard drive and read into RAM I couldn't say absolutely that the CPU wasn't still trying to play the sound, but I didn't notice any slowdown or hesitation. Actually, I'm pretty sure that turning off the sound effects in the option menu *would* prevent the processor from playing the sound. I tested this and turning off the sound effects option does kill all sound.

Helos can climb slopes, I just tested it in fact. Be aware that I am using the latest fan-generated mod set for Divided Ground. I installed per the instructions on this site, which is the Vietnam mod for Divided Ground but also provides instructions on how to update DG as a separate installation to a version 2.0 which apparently is the latest and greatest DG mod version. It adds the USSR, France, Britain and the USA, and also generic Islamic and Muslim forces. Time periods for these OOBs range from 1948 to 1999 for the new nations, the original nations OOBs still only apparently support the four Arab-Israeli conflict dates.

I still occasionally have sound looping problems in DG, even after turning down sound hardware acceleration which fixed most of the problem. I just save, leave DG and then restart it and that seems to cure it each time.

As far as I recall Helos are just treated as very fast vehicles and have the same problem with slopes as any other vehicle - if the gradient is too steep they can't get up them.

I've had the looping sound effects and after much trial and error I decided that it hadn't started until after I'd installed the new Norton SystemWorks. I uninstalled Norton and...no looping sound effects. Don't know if this is just a coincidence or what. Never investigated further to see what might have been in the Norton install. So now I have no Norton...but I have no looping sound effects either.
