In OOB of Chinese navy in WPO, I am disappointed that no Hai Chi in the list.
Protected cruiser Hai Chi was the biggest warship in Chinese navy in 1920s, she was the heaviest (4,300 tons), fastest (24 knots) and best armed (two 8-in. guns) of all the twelve cruisers of the Chinese Navy.
She belong to the Hai Tien Class and laid down on 1 Jan 1897, Hai Tien ashore and lost at Woo Sung, April 1904. The cruiser Hai Chi earned in 1911 the distinction of being the first Chinese war boat ever to visit the West when she steamed as near as possible to the Coronation of King George V.
1937, in order to stop Japanese navy to invade the Capital Nanking, Hai Chi and other 42 ships sunk themselves in Yangtze river. Chinese could win the time and let the government move to Chunking and fight the Japanese to the end.
