Status: offline 		Thanks. It looks like Im not far off the mark then..though I havent switched any sub commanders actually. I should do that next time they are in port.  But Ive had good luck with my subs ..especially my "RO"s.

I also used the 6th armor.. probably not as many Home Defense air units as you though.  I took the Zeros and a few others..

Anyway, thanks for the comment.

Operation Go is proceeding as planned. The main force is proceeding at all speed towards Chungking with the 32nd Div spearheading the way. The lead elements of the 32nd are approximately 100 miles from Chungking. In addition, the 3 tank regiments of the fast flanking group have turned NE and should be behind the enemy at Ichang very soon.




Most developments lately have occured on the periphery of Operation GO. On our Northern flank Chinese troops are approaching Sian. Only 1 corps is before the city at this point in time but intel estimates indicate there could be as many as 10 chinese corps in the vicinity of the city. The attack on Sian was anticipated and the 6th Div, intially ear marked for Operation Go, was ordered back to the city last week. So we currently have 3 divisions in the city. Further, the 68th Div was also ordered to Sian and should reach the city within 3 days. So the assault on Sian poses little threat to our flank.

On our Southern flank units of 2 divisions of the Chinese edpeditionary forces have entered the outskirts of Kweiyang and have engaged the 9 Chinese corps in the area. At the moment a further regiment is ear marked for the assault. However, recon indicates a possible further 3 corps en route to the city. There is a reserve of 2 divisions available to Southern flank group but these will take some time, possibly weeks, to bring into position. We will need to watch events in the city carefully.

A further threat also exists on the left flank of the primary thrust towrdas Chungking. Initially 1 division and 1 brigade were planned to pin the forces pushed out of the way from the Xiangiang river. However, with the reinforcement of a fresh corps from Kweiyang it is not certain these forces are now sufficient. However, a fresh division, the 61st, is in the final process of being raised at Hsingyang and should become operational in 4 days. This will immediately make its way to the Xiangiang area which should stabilize this flank. While this will take approximately 1 week to arrive this is not thought a serious delay as the Xiangiang forces took a serious mauling and the current disposition of troops must leave them with little available supply.

The weather has limited the involvement of our airforces to date, but they are currently ready and eager to particpate in the coming battles, as soon as the weather breaks.

The tanker Fancol and the AK Santa Teresa were hit at Padang by Bettys from Kuching.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Our attack at Koumac was less successful today as the troops are tired. Most likely we will wait until the assault on Lougainville begins before attempts another push.

With expanded airfield at Sorong, Oscars and Rufe's flew a sweep mission over Amboina and shot down a couple Brewsters. They will fly sweep again tomorrow.

Nells from Rabaul hit Lunga today. In another 2-4 days, several Naval Guard units will begin loading Truk for the assault on Lunga.

Sub Ops:
At Noumea the I-175 was hit by an SOC-3 Seagull. It should be able to make it back to Rabaul.

Quiet day, Bettys at Padang missed their targets.


Feurer Krieg Area Report
The Oscars & Rufes at Sorong claimed a couple more kills today at Amboina. They will stay on local CAP tomorrow in case the enemy want to try and stop these aggressions.

The 23th NLF finally finished their long trek through the jungle and secured the base of Babo on the western end of New Guinea.

The South Seas Detachment is directly on course to Lougainville now, with the light carrier taskforces holding position about 500 miles east of the island base in order to allow for Zero LRCAP once enemy aircraft detect the task force. So far they have not been spotted, but it is a slow convoy and most assuredly will be seen before they hit the beaches.

Sub Ops:
The DD Le Triomphant is a tough ship to hit. Today the I-20 attacked it, the third sub attack against the DD in the last couple weeks and it missed as well.
A lucky destroyer, the Le Triomphant.

Bettys north of Padang sunk three allied ships, the PG Auricula, AK Santa Teresa and TK Francol. Airstrikes in various places against troops in China.
The Chinese attempted to break out of Kweiyang, but the Empire's superior weapons and training prevailed over the sheer numbers of enemy troops. Enemy casulties were reported to be heavy.


Feurer Krieg Area Report
Airstrikes continue at Noumea as the SS Detachment inches its way closer to Lougainville. So far the TF has not seen any sign of patrol or recon aircraft.

Several bases in the New Guinea/Solomons area expanded. Lae can now support torpedoes on 2 engined bombers. Munda can support torpedoes on single engine aircraft, and bases in the Admiralty Islands have also grown large enough to accomodate 150 aircraft with ease.

Sub Ops:
The enemy destroyers at Koumac made several runs on the I-20 inflicting light damage and causing fuel leaks. The sub will make for Rabaul for repairs.

I have the honour to inform you that Operation Go is proceeding as planned and is on schedule. Thought there have been numerous developments of which to appraise you.




The main assault force, under the command of Lt Gen. Homa of 12th Army, is now only 50 miles from Chungking. The armies spearhead has been formed by Lt Gen. Akashi’s 32nd Div which has been forging ahead of the field. The rest of 12th Army is hard on the heels of the 32nd and we should expect our first units to be before Chungking in 2 to 3 days time. It is only 8 days since the storming of the crossing over the Xiangiang river.

It looks as if the enemy has finally grasped the precariousness of his position and has withdrawn forces from Ichang and Sian to try to relieve Chungking.

Several enemy units have withdrawn from Ichang and are currently heading North. The force currently consists of 2 corps, 2 divisions and the 1st tank regiment. The armour of the 1st tank is far in the van of this force. The armoured units of our FFG, tasked with intercepting potential reinforcements from the areas of Ichang and Sian, should be able to intercept and defeat the 1st tank. However, it is doubtful they can resist the upcoming infantry units. The 3rd Ind. Bde, tasked with blockading Ichang, is far to the rear of the FFG. Lt Gen Kuno, in charge of 5th army and the FFG, has informed the 3rd Ind Bde’s commander Major General Obara of the need for all haste and the serious potential consequences should the Bde not be in position in time.

While the full strength of enemy units around Sian was never fully identified it is thought that up to 8 corps have been withdrawn from the Sian area and are currently making there way towards the Capital. Armour of the FFG should intercept them but all it can do is hope to slow them down.

In Sian, 3 divisions of Gen Dohihara’s 13th army attacked and brutally swept aside the 35th corps which had taken up position to the West of the city. Further, the 3rd and 29th Div have been order to follow and try and intercept the reinforcements heading from Sian to Chungking. It is unlikely they will succeed but a chance does exist that the armour FFG can hold up these enemy forces long enough for 13th Army’s divisions to make contact.

On the left flank of Operation Go, Lt Gen. Uchida’s 70th Div made contact again with the enemy units swept away by the assault on the Xiangiang river. Uchida ordered his division to start shelling the opposing troops. The enemy immediately launched a heavy assault on the 70th, in an attempt to unhinge them from there positions. There attack consisted of troops from 6 corps and 2 divisions. While the 70th resisted strongly the enemy number were too great. However, on the verge of being over run, Maj. Gen Nozoe’s 20th Mixed Bde arrived in time and on the enemies flank and was able to score a significant victory, forcing the enemy to withdraw. While this engagement effectively secures our left flank further reinforcements will be arriving in the area soon to ensure security.

Similarly our forces assaulting Kweiyang were assaulted by 9 enemy corps. The enemy sallied forth from the city with the aim of sweeping aside the 2 divisions of Lt Gen Tanaka’s 23rd Army wich are blockading it to the South and East. This would have opened a path onto the left flank of the operation. However, our troops resisted strongly and were able to repulse the enemy. Sufficient reinforcements should arrive for Tanaka within the next few days to ensure he can hold out.

While the weather has been very poor recently our planes have been able to make important contributions to the execution of Operation Go. Of these the most notable being a battle over Chungking today. The men of there Flying Tigers proved a worthy adversary again today. While our Zero’s were able to hold there own against the AVG they were not able to stop them inflicting moderate losses on our Sally bombers. However, our bomber pilots held there nerve and flattened Chungking airport, damaging the runway and destroying hangers and supply centres located around the airport.

Lt Gen Nitame, who commander of the 2nd Air Div was relieved today owing to ill health and replaced by Lt Gen Sugahara. The commander of the CBI Command wishes to recognise Lt Gen Nitame’s excellent contribution to the battles in China and wish him a speedy recovery.

To summarise, members of the main assault group will be before Chungking shortly. Heavy fighting on our left flank has left us in a strong, if not unassailable, position on that quarter. The fast flanking group is on schedule to intercept the expected reinforcements from Ichang and Sian. And while they may not be able to hold them they may be able to slow them down sufficiently to allow Chungking to be taken.

Bettys bombing the port at Palembang hit the AK Lematang with a 800kg bomb. In Burma, IJA forces pushed many battered Chinese and British units out of Lashio and into the hills to the east.

According to intel gained from Indian agents, the Hermes has sank off the coast of Trincomalee. Apparently, nearing the end of a long salvage operation where the Hermes was towed from Batavia, through the Indian Ocean, to Ceylon, a fuel storage area, thought to have been emptied and cleared by Dutch crews in Java, suddenly exploded while the ship was off the coast of Ceylon. The ship, barely afloat to begin with, rapidly sunk. It is expected there were no casualties other than those affected directly by the fuel explosion, since the ship was largely an empty hulk.
The Hermes goes under off Ceylon.

(IRL the Hermes sunk just 10 days earlier off Ceylon as well:)

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Today the convoy carrying the SS Detachment to Luganville was spotted and attacked by 8 Hudsons and 42 P-40D Airacobras. One ship was hit with a 100lb GP bomb, but suffered almost no damage. Also, one P-40D was shot down by the convoy AA. The convoy will press on without fighter cover for now, while the light carrier group moves as close as possible without being in range of the P-39D's. If the enemy sends surface ships to Luganville, our Val's will be there to greet them. If unescorted Hudson's attack, the Zero's will shoot them down.

Minelayers heading near Deboyne Island were attacked by Beauforts, but none were hit.

Rabaul airfield expansions were complete today. The airfield can not accomodate 300 planes with no major problems.

Betty's from Singpore attacked the AK Indora west of Sumatra, scoring multiple hits and sinking the ship. Lots of Japanese bombers were in action across China.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
The airfields at Luganville were socked in for the morning, but saw better weather in the afternoon. Fighters and a few Hudsons again attacked the convoy, but today no hits at all were scored. The convoy should hit the shores tomorrow. Recon indicated two enemy units are present, hopefully they are weak garrison forces.

While the Lunga invasion force continues its slow trip to Rabaul, Nells again bombed the airfields at Henderson. Tomorrow the airstrip will be hit by Ise and company. Results should be improved over the last bombardment run as Dinah recon planes have been providing detailed reports for the past couple days from nearby Shortlands airfield.

The Lunga invasion force consists of the following small forces:
Yokosuka 6th SNLF
Yokosuka 8th SNLF
Sasebo 6th SNLF
Kure 7th SNLF
And the 18th, 41st, 42nd, 47th, 62nd, 64th, 65th, 67th, and 85th Naval Guard units.
Total force equals approx 800 assault points. Multiple base forces are at Truk and Nauru preparing to head towards Lunga provided the landing goes well. Landings should commence within the next 10 days.

Sub Ops:
The RO-61 added to its already impressive war record. Attacking a loan transport on the surface near Koumac, the RO-61 managed to hit the AK John C Fremont with multiple torpedoes and one deck gun shot. The ship was spotted sinking after a short time. The RO-61 will head back to Rabaul to restock torpedoes again.

Betty's from Singapore hit Palembang. Also, Betty's at Kendari attacked and scored multiple torpedo hits on the TK Anastasia and the DD Paul Jones in port at Amboina. Both ships will likely sink.
Across China and Burma, the air war picked up a bit. Notable attacks include Sally's and Zero's hitting the airfield at Chengtu. Chinese I-153c's were swept aside by the Zero escort, and 140 Sally bombers pounded the airfield, hitting some aircraft on the ground.
In Burma, a approx 50 Zeros and 90 bombers attaked Imphal. Defending Hurricanes hit a couple of our planes, but many Hurricanes were also downed. The airfield were significantly damaged there as well.
Martins attacked our ships at Jambi, but no hits were scored.
Air battles over Chengtu and Imphal.


Feurer Krieg Area Report
The Ise and Nagato produced terrific results with their bombardment of Lunga. Allied casualties were high, and the airfield wrecked. The next time the battleships hit the island, will be as our troops are unloading.

The SS Detachment unloaded at Lugainville, but not before enemy aircraft got a few more shots in at the ships. Two troop ships were hit with GP bombs, but damage was fairly light and casaulties low. Some damage was taken from coastal gunfire, and one of our gunboats hit a mine. The troops mostly made it ashore though, and are not in immediate danger of being repulse from the island. A few more troops and supplies will unload tomorrow, but the ships will leave the island after that for safer waters.
One notable side effect has been the lack of LBA attacks against Koumac for the past couple days. Hopefully that trend will continue for a bit.

A new section of the port at Rabaul was opened today.

Jambi (north of Palembang) was captured today by light naval landing forces. The AP Kuroshio Maru was hit by a Martin attack on the troops ships sitting off the coast.
Haruna and some heavy cruisers bombarded Bankha for a second day, destroying some enemy aircraft on the ground.
Zero's and Betty's attacked ships at Batavia, putting a torpedo into the AK Steelmaker.
The TK hit at Amboina yesterday was confirmed sunk today.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Rufe's and Oscars flew sweep over Amboina today, however a rookie Rufe pilot was shot down by an enemy Brewster.

The heavies did indeed give Koumac a continued break today, instead they pounded the ships at Lugainville. The attack force consisted of:
20 - B25C Mitchell
81 - B26B Marauder
94 - B17E Fortress
85 - LB30 Liberator

The enemy planes all came in low at 6000 ft, and decimated the ships there. Seven troop ships were sunk outright, with more likely to sink tomorrow. Some of the gunboats managed to avoid being hit. The good news is that the SS Detachment was fully unloaded before sunrise, along with a significant amount of supplies, 3x what the unit requires. Also, a Glen spotted large enemy surface ships approximately 350 miles from Lougainville, just in range to reach the base for a nighttime bombardment.

The plan for tomorrow is as follows:
The carriers will stay to the east of Lougainville. All float planes and Vals will attack the airfields and ground units on the island. Kates will stay on naval attack. A dozen Zero's will fly high level sweep, some will fly escort and the rest will remain on CAP over the carriers.
If the Allied ships try to do a fast hit and run, the remaining gunboats have spread out and will attempt to slow down the big ships, reducing the effectiveness of their bombardment. If they are slower, and come into the base during the day, (or they are fast, but stay at the base) then the Kates should have the chance to hit some major capital ships. Our gunboats will certainly be sunk, but if it allows the capture of the island, or the sinking of enemy capital ships, then the price is worth it.
The SS Detachment will launch a full offensive, hopefully taking the island before the enemy heavy bombers start to suppress them. If they are unsuccessful, they will likely have to wait until reinforcements arrive after Lunga is (hopefully) captured.
As far as I know, the carriers have not been spotted, nor have we launched any strikes over Lougainville. It may be possible that the Allies think the coast is clear and will keep their heavy ships in range of our carriers. It will take some luck, but the possibility is there for a minor victory tomorrow.

An AK unloading supplies at Palembang was hit today by Martins. Damage was light.
Several airstikes continued across China.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Alf's at Sorong found the DD Paul Jones trying to escape and put several small bombs into the ship, hopefully enough to seal its fate.

Pago Pago expanded its airfield. It is almost large enough to accomodate two-engined torpedo bombers.

Nells hit Lunga today, destroying some Catalinas on the ground.

In the south Pacific, our plan as outlined yesterday, went almost perfectly.

Enemy heavy bombers came in and pounded the three cargo ships that had mostly unloaded in the night, sinking them. ALfs & Vals then proceeded to hit the airfield and enemy troops. Strangely no enemy fighters met the air attacks.
Allied LBA attacks...

The enemy ships did indeed show up, however. Not at night, as expeced, instead they arrived in broad daylight. The only flaw in the plan was one that couldn't be helped - some 18 Kates were unable to locate their target. On the bright side though, the 30+ that did attack, managed to brave some very heavy flak and put two torpedoes into the CA Minneapolis and one torpedo into the CA Astoria. Damage was heavy on the Minneapolis, but it is unlikely either ship will sink, unless our subs catch them on their way back to Noumea.
Kates on the attack...


After the Kates had their way, the enemy ships made to attack our ground forces. Two gunboats did their best to slow the enemy fleet and force them to expend ammunition and time. In this they were successful. The enemy ships shelled our troops, but we only suffered 13 casualties.

The CA Astoria fires its 8" guns.


Finally, the South Sea Detachment launched a strong attacked against the defenders who were in disarray after being hit by the float planes and dive bombers. The troops made fast progress across the island and by the end of the day, two Base Force units had surrendered and the SS Detachment added a fifth island conquest to its war record.

While the island is in rough shape, and will take a bit to repair, approximately 8000 tons of supplies were captured intact, along with many Hudson and P-39D aircraft.

The airbase will likely not be operable for a while, with all the enemy LBA around, but they will now have two bases to suppress instead of just one.

A sub at Kuomac has been ordered to attempt an intercept of the cruisers damaged at Luganville.

on the evening of the 23rd of April, troops from the 32nd division took up positions outside Chungking. Hard on their heals were the 20th Engineering Regiment and the 5th RF Gun Bn. As we speak shells from the guns of these units are starting to fall on Chungking.

Within the next day or two the remainder of the main strike force should be in position to strike at the city itself. These forces consist of a further 8 divisions, 3 brigades, 1 cavalry division, 2 combat engineering regiments and 3 artillery units. All under the command of Lt Gen. Homma's 12th Army.

Units of the Lt. Gen. Kuno's Fast Flanking Group have also performed admirably. Elements of the 13th tank regiment were able to intercept 4 corps advancing from Ichang, while units of the 13th and 23rd tank were able to intercept 6 enemy units on the Sian-Chungking Road. Three divisions advancing from Sian should relieve the 15th and 23rd tank within a day or two, while the FFG's 3rd Ind Bde should be in position on the Ichang-Chungking road within 2 days.

It is estimated that a possible 8-10 corps managed to retreat from the Sian area prior to the arrival of the FFG. However, the FFG's mission has been an outstanding success, intercepting many potential enemy reinforcements heading to Chungking.

The latest reconassence indicates enemy reinforcements converging on the city. In addition to the large group of reinforcements from Sian, which are still approximately a week away from Chungking, a further 2 corps have been seen marching from Yunan as well as 1 from Chengtu.


However, if the main strike force can get into position within the next day or two it maybe possible to launch an all out assault and unhook the defenders before the bulk of their reinforcements arrive. Failing this a long seige maybe necessary, though a siege we can only inevitable win. The next few days are the most critical of operation go.

Two more AK's hit at Palembang today by Swordfish from Batavia. Betty's from Kendari returned the favor, hitting and sinking the DD Edsall at Koepang. Also, the DD Paul Jones was reported sunk today.
Airstikes everywhere in China as Operation Go rolls on.
The Clemson class Edsall.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Nell's hit Lunga again, doing a fair bit of damage and hitting a couple grounded aircraft.

All was quiet near Noumea. Likely the Allied LBA is hunting the seas for our carriers, which are retreating east to refuel in safety.

Sub Ops:
Allied surface ships made it to Noumea port safely, avoiding any attacks from our subs.

More airstrikes across China. Troops began to shell Chungking.
A solid attack today by the newly supplied units at Palembang successfully captured the base. Oil and resource production areas suffered very little damage. These will greatly help keep the Imperial war production moving at full speed. Over 50,000 tons of supplies were captured as well.
Betty's from Kuching and Kendari launched multiple attacks against ships at Soerbaja. Three AK's were each hit with one torpedo. Hawk 75A's on CAP did bring down a few of our bombers though.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Nell's hit Lunga again.

The Lunga invasion force, bombardment group and replenishment ships will gather up at Russell Island before making the assault on Lunga itself.

Liberator's from Midway attacked Wake. Our Oscar's damaged some, but intel reports all LB-30's made it home without crashing.

Sub Ops:
The I-18, on station very close to Wake Island, stayed a bit too long as a group of destroyers and DMS ships depth charged and sunk the sub in shallow water.

The air war in Burma/China was relatively quiet today.
Martins attacked IJN ships at Palembang, but all bombs missed.
At Soerabaja the DD Kortenaer was reported sunk.

Northeast of Columbo, the AK Empire Summer was hit by the I-153.

West of Noumea, the RO-66 was attacked by destroyers and suffered some minor damage.

Air war picked up on the mainland again.
Kates from Georgetown attaked and severly damaged, if not sank, the AK Empire Dawn.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Mostly quiet. 20 LB-30's attacked Wake island, destroying some Kates on the ground. The Oscar's managed to knock one bomber down. A Chutai of Zeros will be flown in to help defend the base from these attacks.

The Ise, Nagato and company are in place to bombard Lunga as our naval attack troops are landed.

Sub Ops:
In the evening, the RO-65, on patrol near Koumac was spotted and attacked by a destroyer group. A depth charge dropped by the DD Stewart caused significant damage to the sub. Although the sub did manage to give the slip to the destroyer, it later was forced to the surface from interal fires. As it limped to the north the next day, it was spotted by Allied aircraft and bombed by both LB-30's and A-20Bs. A pair of bomb hits was more than the damaged sub could take and it was sunk with all hands.

The AK Ryoka Maru at Palembang was damaged by attacking Martins today. Also, the Allies launched an air attack against Kendari, but scored no hits.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
The attack at Lunga went well. Just prior to the landing, the heavy cruiser and battleships shelled the defenders knocking many defensive emplacements out of action. Then the troops stormed the beaches and easily formed up a large perimeter. They continued to land throughout the next day, almost unimpeded. They have been ordered to push inland tomorrow, and if resistance is light, to take the island. If resistance is heavier, we will wait a bit for aerial attacks to soften the defenders. Many Catalinas were destroyed at the airfield during the bombardments as well.

Liberators returned to Wake and again destroyed some aircraft on the ground. The Zeros were not quite ready having just flown in, but a couple did get airborne and damaged some of the heavy bombers shooting down one. AA guns on the ground also claimed one kill.

Sub Ops:
A Glen in the far south Pacific spotted what was reported as two troop or cargo ships moving east. Our carriers are currently occupied covering two base force units that are moving to Luganville, so we will not pursue what is likely cargo ships. Also, they are heading east so they are likely empty.

Kates & Vals from Karachi attacked Maccasar today, destroying a pair of Demon airplanes on the ground. The 6th and 8th Tank Regiments continued to force fleeing Dutch forces down the road from Palembang to Teloekbetoeng.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
After another night of naval bombardments against the defenders at Lunga, Japanese naval attack forces pushed across the island from morning until late in the day, breaking through multiple lines of defense, sometimes with the help of Nells on ground attack support from Rabaul. Before nightfall, the local New Zealand officer signaled for a surrender. Approximately 20,000 British and ANZAC soldiers as well as US Marines were disarmed and will be put to work repairing the airfields and port facilities on the island. Several Catalinas were also caputured on the ground as well. The 13th Base Force at Tulagi will move to Lunga to provide air support once the airfield is sufficiently repaired.
The airfield at Lunga will be a great help in the campaign to secure the south Pacific.


Naval forces there will rest briefly, and then regroup to move on and attack the small Allied base at Ndini.

Liberators again attacked Wake, although today one was shot down by the fighters on CAP.

A very quiet day across the Empire.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Many enemy bombers attack the five transports unloading at Luganville. Zeros on CAP damaged a couple bombers, but most were kept away by the escorting P-40Bs. Although most of the troops were unloaded, some were killed when during the attack. Two of the transports sunk, two were heavily damaged and one lightly. They will stay in place and any supplies on board will attempt to be unloaded before the ships sink or are attacked again.

Heavy fighting at Chungking made little progress. Several airstrikes were launched across China. A large strike against Akyab took some losses Hurricanes on CAP, but did inflict some damage on the airfield there. Bettys from Kendari scored hits on two troop transports near Amoina, the AP Speelman and AP Van Diemen.

Feurer Krieg Area Report
Allied LBA sunk two more ships at Luganville, although they were very nearly empty as cargo was unloaded all through the night.

At Lunga some small landing forces have loaded up and will spread out to secure the few remaining islands in the chain that have not yet been investigated. They will then return to Lunga and prepare to assault Ndini.

Sub Ops:
I-168 was hit by a B-17E at Koumac, but damage was manageable.
