Recently picked up a map of the Russian Maritime provinces dated 1943. The map portrays the area roughly from Irkutsk to Sakhalin island at 1:4,000,000 or 25 miles=3/8"

Curiously there is a railine reported as being under construction as of 1939 running well to the north of the currently portrayed railline.

On the map I have it is complete to Kirensk-Sibiriski (rougly 425 miles N-NE of Irkutsk) and runs roughly E-SE from this point paralleling the current Trans _Siberian till it reaches the AMUR river at Kosomolsk. The closest it come to the current line is at Tinda which is roughly 100 miles N of Skovorodino.

Anyone know anything about it?

There is also a line following the AMUR from the sea to Komsomolsk reported as under construction in 1939...

Perhaps a trip back to the library is in order to find out if these lines are reported as complete at a later date....

Boy!?

Which choo-choo is the North Siberian? Are you refering to the Trans-Siberian?

I would bet that the railroad runs to Sovgavan (Sovetskaya Gavan). It used to be a Russian naval base...

It does. The image in post #5 is from a map made in 1943.

It's a song.

A very old song; possibly even older than me

Funny, Knoxville is just downriver from Chattanooga... You'd think that a Vol who's a history buff would know about that song!
