I've enjoyed TOAW since Vol. I and have bought (played) every version (WotY, COW, etc.). With respect to the "FitE crowd", Daniel McBride's "Drang nach Osten" is IMHO the best TOAW scenario ever designed for this game, period. In his outstanding scenario briefing document he laments not having more "events" (fixed in TOAWIII). With his penchant for "detail" I have no doubt he would have also made use of additional unit slots (not fixed in TOAWIII; future "feature"?) despite his mention of the arduous and difficult task he faced with the Soviet OOB.

Since I've not seen any mention of an update to Dr. McBride's masterpiece mentioned here or in the other TOAW scenario/design forums, does anyone know if an update is in work or being considered?

My understanding is that Daniel deliberately witheld some of his scenarios from the original release so he could give them a full overhaul for TOAW III. However he hasn't been heard from since the game was released, so whether this will happen or not is a matter for speculation.

In the meantime, it should be perfectly possible to convert DNO or any other scenario to TOAW III just by opening it and saving it in the editor.

Thanks gd. I have COW and did "convert" the latest DnO version (3.7) for play in TOAWIII. I was just curious if the original scenario designer (or someone else) was/is going to update the scenario with respect to the enhancements available in the latest version of the program (more events, etc.), to account for increased effectiveness of AA, and other such things. Having played the scenario both in COW and III, there is a noticeable difference.

To be honest, I doubt Daniel is working on DNO, as he is not active in the TOAW community at all. However this is not the first time he has moved on to another game and then subsequently come back. I would hazard a guess that a new version of the scenario will turn up- but it might be another couple of years. Of course the man himself is free to turn up and prove me wrong.
