Hey guys, I have been getting a lot of mail asking for some clarifications around the future of PureSim. I am currently pulling together a new release which will be the first release of the newly titled "PureSim Baseball - Community Edition." Instead of re-hashing it, I'll paste the readme here. Look for the first release of the CE soon. Here is the readme:

====================================================

PureSim Baseball Community Edition Release 1
(c) 2007 Shaun Sullivan
February 2007

====================================================

What is the "Community Edition?"
=====================

Earlier this year I announced my retirement from official commercial development
on PureSim. That means I am not planning to do any more official commercial
annual releases of the game. I also announced that I would continue to work on
improving the game at my leisure, releasing updates periodically. That effort
now has an official name: "The Community Edition." In addition to releasing
updates and new features I am also going to continue to work on making the
game more mod-friendly so we can truly get a community going around the game
for years to come.

What do I need to play this and all future versions of the Community Edition?
=================================================

The community edition builds on top of the last commercial release of PureSim
which was PureSim Baseball 2007 from Matrix Games. Thus, in order to install
and use Community Edition updates, you must be an owner of the commercial
version from Matrix. It currently sells for less than $30, so considering
I'll update the game in perpetuity, this is a pretty good deal :) I'd like
to thank Matrix Games for their wonderful support in publishing two popular
releases of PureSim.

Can I donate to the project?
==================

Yes, in an effort to at least cover development, web hosting and bandwidth costs
I have setup a secure PayPal donation page, so any and all contributions will be
greatly appreciated! The page can be accessed from the "Donate" button on the
main game menu.

What else can I do to help?
=================

Well, first off if you are a developer take a look at the SDK that installs with
the game! Have a crack at writing an add-in. I intend to open up even more hooks
for you guys in the future. PureSim supports mods created in Visual Basic 6.0,
Visual Basic 2005, and even Visual Basic 2005 Express (Which is a FREE version of VB).
Expect to see more samples and information from me on this front moving forward.

What kind of support can I expect?
======================

While I can't provide the level of support that was provided with past commerical and
shareware versions, I will continue to fix bugs as quickly as time permits. The
less adventurous out there may want to consider staying with the extremely stable
final Matrix release (PureSim 2007 v1.51)

==============================================
1.0 Community Edition - Features and Fixes
==============================================

New - Removed DirectX 8.0a dependency. This gets us 100% compatibility with
Windows Vista, with full support for ambient sounds, animated ball flight and
UI effects. PureSim now can run on any system with DirectX 3.0 - 10.0.
The only concession is I had to remove the fireworks display after a home run,
but that was getting old anyway :)

New - Completely revamped initial and amateur draft interface, much more information,
much more interactivity, and quite a bit more immersive.

New - "Quick Links" feature adds handy links (on every screen!) to Minor League Roster
management, Major league roster management and team front office screens.

Change - Removed all Matrix branding from the product.

************** From Here down are release notes from the commercial version **************

ANYTHING ABOVE THIS LINE IS NOT AN OFFICIAL MATRIX RELEASE
AND MATRIX CANNOT OFFER ADDITIONAL SUPPORT. SHAUN SULLIVAN
IS THE SOLE PERSON SUPPORTING "PureSim Baseball CE"

{snip}

Shaun-

I beg you to open up the entire database. There are still some goodies in there that I want to get my hands on like player transactions.

Also, a way to open up "new" windows from an addin *OR* give us the ability to add to the player card either on the card or in another tab.

I am going to get the PS itch soon and that means I want to make some addins. :)

I also have my schedule creator that's Beta Beta that maybe someday I can have the ability to interface with PS.

That is actually something I am going to do. The database will be completely opened up to 3rd party developers.

I love the name "Community Edition." That really gives the feel that the game now belongs to all of us. As for the fireworks, I think some of us wanted to figure out a way to turn those off, anyway.

Looking forward to the new release.

This sounds good to me, too. I hope, however, of having a reasonable expectation of a pre-existing association maintaining stability.

This makes me wonder if it might not be advisable to have multiple installs of the game, i.e., both PS1.51 AND PSCE.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, it was always disturbing seeing those fireworks going off right there in the outfield seats.

LOL -- I keep having these mental images of folks ducking, hot dogs and drinks flying, and some shocked veteran yelling "incoming!" . Yeah, that stuff is meant for a digital scoreboard, NOT in the grandstands.

The community edition will replace your PS 2007 install. Just think of it as PS 2007 "forever."

OK. I'm already hooked, so being a "forever" participant is a given.

That is great to hear. I would love to take a crack at making some advanced mods. Not to say I'll succeed at what I'd like to do...but an effort nonetheless.

I take it by reading this then that 2007 is not compatible with windows vista. I bought a new computer and tried to put in on and it kept giving me errors each time I tried to start up the game. Also I read that it is "coming soon" does that mean no definitive release date?
Thanks

OK...I'm running Matrix release 1.20. If I patch 1.51 will I lose my association? Can I just install 1.51, or do I hafta install a buncha earlier ones first?

Thanks

If you are running PureSim 2007 v1.2x you can go straight to 1.51 without worry. You're associations will be automatically upgraded.

Can't find the 1.51 patch on Matrix. Tried to register the game thinking that would help, but it wouldn't accept my code, even though I simply copied and pasted it from the actual email Matrix sent me!!

Jim, the patch link is located on this thread : http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1330730

Have your game's serial number handy. You'll need that to install the patch.

Sorry, man, it seems that Matrix didn't provide the link in the "member downloads" area.

actually, I've always copy and pasted my code for all my matrix games and never had a problem, but I would try typing it first to see if that's where the problem lies.

Make sure you didn't copy a blank space too perhaps.
