Hi there,
Could someone please possibly confirm that the multiplayer coop (more than 2 players head to head) has been dropped of COI ?
If this is the case could you then also let us know if it will make it into future releases of CC.. I am wondering if it's just me that is interested (very mild way to put it) or if the multiplayer coop is generally regarded as a key possible improvement to the game ?
Thanks,

Coop Multiplay was never in CC3, so as such has not been 'dropped'.  Multiplayer is the same.

For your info, Coop Multiplay will not happen in any of the re-releases.  However, it will be in subsequent releases of CC.  It already exists in the Military Versions (up to 5x5 at the moment).

Hi there,

Thanks very much for the answer... I'll have to wait for the real new releases then.
Four your info, I was not suggesting coop multiplayer had ever been part of CC3... simply back in October when the re-release of CC3 was announced, coop multiplayer was part of the new features listed ... ... it now looks more like a glorified MOD However, the future "new" releases is something to look forward to, even if it's in the distant futue Hope is back, that's the main thing

Cant the grand online campaign that has been mentioned. The one where you can play a grand campaign online in a 24 hour a day raging battle thing be looked upon as coop? Even tho you cant play one map with more then 2 people.

Yes, the Massive Multiplayer Online Campaign(s) (MMCCIII) could be viewed as Coop Multiplay, but it's Campaign Coop Multiplay, not Tactical (Battle) Coop Multiplay.

You will get Tactical Coop Multiplay when we get around to producing subsequent versions based on CCM and beyond.

Thanks that's very good news indeed, coop even at the strategic level only is already very interesting.

That brings up three questions

Can you generate a private MMCCIII game ?

How do the maps/units get assigned. Is it simply that anyone logging in can play any unplayed map with the units assigned to the map, or is there at the start of the MMCCIII game a phase during which units are assigned to designated players ?

How are reinforcements managed in a MMCCIII games ?

Thanks for you help,

If you want to play with yourself (erp... didn't mean to suggest anything ), then there is a single play server shipped with CoI that you can play MMCCIII on your own PC.  No Internet connection needed, but it is still only playing with yourself (there I go again... ).  If you want to set up a private Multiplayer Campaign to play against one other (or as many/few as you want), this is also do'able, but not as straightforward:

1.  Set up on a LAN/WAN if you each have access through the WAN (talking more in terms of private network, but the Internet is just another WAN))
2.  Set up on the Internet.  You need a Web Server that allows connectivity through a dedicated Port (you can choose) to which the Client can connect remotely.  THis is how the CoI Multiplayer is set up, but you can do this yourself on your own server, then just give out the IP number to those you want to have access.

However, you will lneed the Multiplayer Server which is not shipped with CoI, but can be made available through the Community.  Check in at CSO after the release if this is a direction you would like to take, or drop me a line (chrisb@csogroup.org).

Play it and find out!  I don't know I want to write the manual here  but I'll do what I can:

The Campaign Map is divided into square Sectors (you can see that from the screen pic in the Preview).  At the start, who occupies what Sector is determined by the Campaign setup.

You fight a CC Battle to decide who occupies a Sector.  You do this by attacking a Sector (on the Campaign Screen), and the server either delivers a single player battle in CoI to decide the outcome, or can arrange for a H2H battle (not in single player version).

You can attack any enemy Sector that is adjacent to any friendly Sector, i.e. you do not personally 'own' any Sector, it is owned by the side you are fighting with.  This goes for all Players.

You start the first battle with a Battlegroup, just like in the start of any CC3/CoI Battle/Operation/Campaign.  As you fight each battle, at the start you will get requisition points to resupply your Battlegroup (just like in CC3/CoI).  The amount of points will depend on a number of different factors controlled by the MMCCIII Server and the way the custom scenario was set up.

All this is done without a centralised system clock.  The Online Server runs 24x7, and you can connect anytime.  The Campaign 'days' are clocked up depending on the number of battles that have been fought, not syncronised to any space/time continuum...

Best thing you can do is go and play it!  For those that have thrashed the CC3 single player campaigns to death, this is a very refreshing new strategic gameplay which can spice up your CC life again, or for those that have never played CC3 before, you just get more without even knowing it!  Talk about luck...

However, there is one thing that non CC3 players may find a bit hard to get their grey cells wrapped around to start with, is the fact that every individual's Campaign is unique to them.  You take your Battlegroup with you from battle to battle (just like in CC3/CoI).  You don't get 'given' one by the Sector.  It is your own personal Campaign fought alongside everyone else's personal Campaign, but sharing a strategic objective.  Quite uniqu in it's way IMO. Every Sector is yours, but it is also everyone else's. You will have to play it to see what I mean.

I think it's good, but then I am biased...

Thanks very much for the update ... we'll undoubtedly be looking at setting up our own multiplayer server to host private campaigns..
That sounds smashing

Cool! Thank you for the info beeble. I was wondering how reinforcements where handled in the mmo way. But this sounds just perfect. You can actually build up a force to your own likes and dislikes and play head to head. Great.

But im wondering, can one side win? I presume it can be won and the campaign will restart, but im asking just to be sure :)

There is also a penalty system which reduces your resupply points the more battles you win and there are differences in the Single Player Battle and H2H Battles handling.  That's a bit of a simplification, but it's along those lines.

One side wins I suppose when it occupies all Sectors, as there will not be any more Sectors to attack

p.s. there are a LOT of battles to be played in the CoI MMCCIII online Campaign...
