I've been playing the CC series for, well, as long as they've been a series. Recently I upgraded a computer to MS Vista and downloaded COI for my son so he could start enjoying the series.

By running the application in Win 98/ME compatibility mode, the game runs fine (it also seems to work in XP mode, but not at all in Vista). The Multiplayer system, though, is the problem. When starting the multiplayer menu, the resulting screen has TCP/IP greyed out, and no internet address is displayed. I run behind a router, of course, so I expected to see the local address (192.168.1.105).

To try to isolate the problem, I installed it on my XP Pro machine, and I am able to get it to recognize its local address just fine (192.168.etc). I can understand how firewalls, etc, are problematic with regard to playing with someone over the internet, but I don't understand why the game does not show the internal network address.

Any ideas?

Mike

Maybe disable IPv6 for the network adapter in Vista ? I don't know because I only have time to play against the AI.
Maybe disable Defender and the firewall itself ?

I have disabled the firewall, both in Windows as well as McAfee. No difference. The firewall should not, though, interfere with the internal network address since the computer is open to discovery, file sharing, printer sharing, etc, on my home network. That's the real puzzle
