Okay, CC6 is remake of the C game I liked the least. Fine, I'll skip it since the re-release motivated me enough to go and see if my old copies of the ones I liked run on my machine (they do).

So is CC7 going to be another re-release of CC2 or something?

Is there something in these re-releases that would get me to buy them?

An easy online multiplayer is attractive, but I really don't have the time anymore. So the one killer feature CC6 has that I see isn't relevent to me.

I suppose I could get motivated if you could have say, several players per side and bigger maps. That would make Easy online Multiplayer relevent to me.

The other thing would be to update the game to 3-d graphics. Company of Heroes sucked from a Grognard point of view, but the graphics were awsome. I played through the demo a bunch and came within a hair of paying for it before determining it was just another RTS with buildings and nonesense.

The thing would be to make fancy graphics add something ot the game. Being able to see LOS easily in 3-D would add something. Making it a more immersive experience would add something. (there was a game years ago that was billed as the successor of CC and had 3-D, except that there were no hills, just bush walls, some trees and buildings. And worse yet, the 3-d was useless becuase it lied to you. It said you could see the Enemy, but then your guys couldn't fire on the enemy and told you you didn't have LOS. )

Am I ranting? Or is this trolling? Sorry, I'll get back to the point:

Okay, the point:
1. Are we just getting re-releases of old CC games?
2. What are we geting more than that?

The thought of updated CC games is exciting, but if I can't tell the difference between the old and the new (despite what was probably a ton of work), then I'll just keep on with Highway to the Reich/Conquest of the Agean as my way of supporting Matrix and my hobby.

Oh good lord, please read some of the threads already up...COI is not CC6. The re-releases are totally different then what CC6, CC7 etc.. will be.

Fancy graphics are the last thing CC needs, maybe updated a bit but top down works. Otherwise it's not CC anymore it's some other animal. A big 3D world just doesn't work with this kind of game..to much going on and to much clicking. The day CC becomes a game of having to find units all over a large 3D map is the day I stop playing CC.

Oh good lord! This sounds like something that needs to be at the FAQ threads at the top of the page! Golly gee, who would have thought of that? Can you imagine putting info that relevent to people who need to get clued in be made easily availabe as opposed to forcing them to go trudging through posts like :"You've lost a lot of sales due to the high price" "OK, Someone "Sell Me" on This Game" and "CC6 wish list thread"

It might help aleviate the two former threads.

As it is now, people go to the Wargamer.com, see a huge add for a new Close Combate game, and what are they to think but that it is the 6th CC game?! Oh lord, what were they thinking?

Y'know, I didn't mean to be so sarcastic when I replied. But Internet Forum desease must have infected my fingers. forgive me if it is over the top.

PS: I dissagree with you on the graphics point. I think there are some things in the current graphics that are not as clear as they could be. Namely line of sight. Low rises and depressions you might be in don't show up so clearly the first few times you play a map. That is why I talk about looking at fancy graphics that ADD to the game. Otherwise I agree with your direction that fancy graphics for the sake of fanciness is not worthwhile. CoH isn't that hard to find the units. In fact I feel I have a more realistic feel of where thigns are playing that than CC. (note I said realistic, not better- which is where I see CC shining)

Top down is why CC works.  Without it, you could not get the relationship between the tactical action and the players interaction which makes CC so compelling of its type (squad level tactical battle sim).

However, I would think that alternative views would complement the game, but they must be additional to, not instead of the 'classic' view.

There is also no harm in upgrading the graphics to be more pleasing (read detail), and an adjustment in the scaling to bring it together more uniformly along with zoomable views would also be good imo.  But this is not going to happen with a 're-release' because that is going to be a lot of work, and better put into new releases, though I suspect that there will have to be some more releases based on the current engine (including the advances made with the Military Sims) before a 'next generation' CC engine comes about.  On the best advice I have been able to get, that is likely to be a build from the ground up because it is not worth the effort to manipulate the current code base into something which is next generation.

And what all punters have to realise (and most seem to appreciate) is that to get all these goodies out to the playing public requires large amounts of money, and I durn plucked my money tree bare already... now if CoI sold a million copies then I reckon work would start on the future of CC pretty darn quick, and I would be a very happy man (and so would Destineer, Matrix, and Simtek)... but alas that is just not going to happen.  Back to reality...
