back at last

s-179 gets a apg of kwel today

KB is totally spotted north of Eniwetok today, and Im grateful its not attacked, surprise is totally lost too

Little bombing today, quite a few ground battles, with Eniwetok nearing the end.

I look careful;ly at the range of my BBS to the target, and chicken out.
really, all my ships are so tired it will make naval strike just useless if I try, I must refit the fleet before the 44 battles.

So having "shown the flag", the entire navy practically turns for home waters.

i-170 sunk today
bangkok hit by 120 heavies, 100 mediums
a great big smoking hole is the place now!

In the pm phase I spot about 6 ss near siapan alone -not hard to read tabpub is at times -me thinks a central thrust is coming about febuary 44.

he bombs gassmatta (another target very soon for sure) shortlands and russel island

Ground combat -rahaeng - 1628 av (him) to 1824 me, so I feel comfortable here -supplies going bad now though
east of canton 925 him, 639 me -and its a stalemate, as is canton as well
tavoy -the real point of battle -1364 him, 1605 me -and i have size 9 forts

Munda is falling silent, tassafronga he continues to battle me.

A lot of new planes head south to train, the fleet heads home for R and R.
Its obvious, I must keep it in being, its the only thing that keeps tabpub at a crawl!

Heavy bombing about the map today, but little strategic action

I had a convoy decimated at Songhla today -fortunately the troops were ashore already -liberators from rangoon do the damage, sweeping the oscars aside

Ground fighting around chenting -which will hold easily.

High alert in malaya -BBs sighted south of adaman island!

Continued air action over Songhla, as the liberators continue to pound my convoy.
His fleet in the indian ocean vanishes.
He advances in the north of china towards tatung -pinning me here as well.
In china I can no longer move a single unit -all reserves committed, all units pinned into battles, right from the top of china to the bottom -depressing!
And any day now I expect him to start to strategic bomb me from there

Amboinia was pounded, and sorong today -very surprised that its taken until now before tabpub closed those oil fields

In the solomons land fighting at munda continues, troops trapped at Russell island, and tasafronga

Air evecuating troops from woodlark sssshhhhhhh

Am ready in PNG to fight him a bit.....

The fleet reaches japan -its been a long time since they were home -and the ships are very, very tired.
I expect at least 2-3 months before many of them will even begin upgrading!

I begin air ops in PNG -33 tony from Sag sag sweep dobodura -lose 7, shoot down 6 kittyhawk, 3 p.38

24 tony and 10 zeke cap over finchefsen? -protedcting a AP, 5 havoc and 31 p38 attack
11 tony, 3 zezke lost -14 P38 shot down

I will keep juggling the air groups here -a mix of low exp tonies, and high exp zekes, with some mediocre planes mixed in.
Bombers join the fray -i sense his P 38s are very tired.

25 tonies from sag sag sweep dobodura - 29 p38, 11 kittyhawk CAP
14 lost 2 s/d 5s/d
there goes the rookies

23 liberators and 8 beaufighters have a crack at the transport at Finchefsan
28 george , 5 zeke, 18 tony on CAP
16 liberators shot down -nice

More george escort 9 kate south -12 boomerang actually shoot down 4 george!
The admiralties A/F opens for business -35 zeke, 9 betty, 21 helen attack Buna shipping -9 boomerang CAP
5 zeke lost -the helens aim is good -1 AK sunk by 4 torps, another hit, 145 casos reported

In the pm phase another AK is sunk by the helens -15 attacking -and the 12th Aussie brigade goes swimming!

The rest of the map is very quiet.
Where are his CVs?

I have some 30 exp tonies at Finch.
they sweep Dobodura at 30000 feet -the boomerangs do not intercept -and experience goes up to 35

A AV is sunk by a ss in Kendari hbr

Further air battles over Buna -tonies sweeping at 100 feet.

And here comes his CV's -10 carriers reported south of Gilli, Gilli -a huge strike against Kiriwana island

Fighting in china, tatung.
Now, what to do about the approaching death star.

CV's off Dobodura
All my planes stood down -awaiting his APs -a lot at Buna spotted
Bombing lea heavily -me thinks this is the next target , not gassmatta.

Admiralties island full of planes, Madang, wewak too

More fighters and bombers arrive from Home islands at Truk.
cannot win a battle here at all, but will just concentrate on delaying, and trying to sink APs, AKs.
The big, big battles, war deciders are still 6 months away -one thibng for sure , there is no central pacific thrust coming this month -not with the CVs I see off dobodura!

Another break of a week, off to defend the nation tomorrow for a week.

OK, Ive been away for a week re charging the batteries and serving the nation in a small way, very satisfying

Its now late in 43, and overall I really can not complain
Although the last few months seem to have been just a very passive defence, with laittle inititive from my side, I am very pleased with how much empire I actually hold still.

The biggest factor is the lack of oil and resources -where most japanese players seem to have loads of planes and supplies even at this stage, I actually am very , very close to historical levels, and my pools are very, very low on many planes.
All this comes from capturing most oil and resources trashed.

So I have to be passive -I can only fight for the really, really important stuff, and so far I have not considered any thing that vital to wipe my self out over.
NO ships are being produced -so each one is extremely precious

The situation is changing, TABPUB is finally on the move, now I must just slow him down for 3-6 months before the 1st great fight -the fight for Siapan is undertaken

I need 3 months now, as KB is totally knackered -system damage is very high on nearly every ship in the fleet.
KB, and the fleet is still intact, and this is the key, as long as it threatens, Tabpub must advance base by base.

The fronts
Home Islands

Oil is just 600000 tons, and just 16 tankers remain!
I have low supplies, and factory production is "spotty" -.
The biggest worry, -a CV raid on the home islands!

China
Right along the entire front -the railroad, we are contesting all the cities basically -I am fully committed, pinned and slowly, slowly being picked apart.
Total allied air supremecy, and he is using air power in china slowly destroying all the resource centres in that theatre.
Its grim -and I feel that this is actually where the death blow will fall.

Vietnam

After an excursion that took hanoi -a very unwelcome loss -I have I think enough forces here -but these forces really need to be elsewhere!

Burma

OK.
Stalemate at Tavoy
Same at rahaeg
Plenty of forces up and down the coast all the way to Vic point and even further
BUT -he is bombing everything at will -and I am powerless to stop him.
bangkok in particular is now a crater
naval forces are non existant here at the moment too.
I can just hang on grimly -and hope
Singapore is a training base, bombing the island just south, dread to think what will happen when that goes.

DEI
After the massive effort at darwin, I hope that this area is safe for some time.
I trai from soerabaya, have some forces at Kendari, Timor.
He has flattened Ambonia and Sorong -and I can tell you -that was 20% of my oil!

PNG
The invasion of Lae is coming -a fleet is sighted
Lae has 2 Divisions, but litle up the coast after it
PM is cut off -still well supplied, but a lot of troops.
They are marching to Buna -might catch him in the rear by surprise, any thing is worth a try now.
I have a fair bit of air committed here -at madang and the other bases in the area -will just try to keep him "honest"

Solomons
Munda is gone, shortlands soon
He is very slow to slog up the chain, and seems to insist on wiping out every base before moving to the next -bypass does not seem to be his policy -I detect a desire to "take it all"

Marshalls/gilberts

Are gone -yet the "take it all" is revealed by jaluit - he is about to invade a small, totally bypassed base .
Ponape is the next target I feel -it is starting to be bombed every day

Central

Ace in the hole
The Siapan islands are a fortress, as are the Paluas
The phillipines also are very well developed.
With the fleet in being -I hope to inflict literally "the decisive battle" here.
I have too -I only have fuel at the moment for one big fleet operation left anyway

So, the war continues, today some air battles over Lae -I sink 3 MSW clearing mines there with some Lillies at 100 feet.

Tomorrow the action begins , I hope I can hurt him some how!

Today his CVs arrive 2 hexes south of Lae, and stop there.
Not sure if this is his main fleet though -although again the Tabpub death star Uber CAP is in great evidence

he bombs resources in China, tavoy and bangkok, but the main action is here, at lae

he strikes madang -24 george tackle 11 p38, 47 liberators.
I lose 2, take down 5 liberators.
The field is pounded to dust though

A second similar wave sees 5 more liberators for another george down

I send very low exp tonies sweeping buna -they encounter boomerangs, i lose tonies -giving a good idae of what I committed.

CVE a/c hit lae.

Then the admiralties launch -3 zeke, 4 betty -1 msw sunk
41 zeke, 5 george,36 tony, 20 betty -2 msw sunk
24 helen get it wrong, they attack the death star -143 hellcat,122 wildcats!
Only lose 7 helen as the rest quit -thats a miricle!!

12 kate are lost against the CAP as well

Tomorrow we juggle the groups, and continue the mild response to the invasion -i refuse to lose my A/F over PNG.

The troops after the usual naval bombardments begin landing at Lae, its an Aussie invasion, 2 divisions, and 4 tank regiments, and lots of support troops.
I am hopeful -it might not be enough!, my AV 404, his 730 -but I have 8 forts, and good supplies here.
Poor weather, only 1 real action, the tonies try again, and run away, so they will be withdrawn.

I cease training many groups in the DEI -they will be fed into this battle.

I send a transport airgroup to PM, which is immediately flattened -gawd I hate the A/F occupied symbol!, he is not reconning the place -in real life this would not happen

Tomorrow another effort to try to hit the transports -but some how avoid the death star.

NOT a SINGLE ship has repaired as far as I can tell in the last 3 days
Of course it would help if the ports were supplied well I suppose

The landings continue at Lae -tabpub firmly believes that the 2 divisions landing will be enough -he may be right.

But it should take a while, and all I am after is to buy time at the moment.

Today I lose my last ML in the Indian ocean theatre to a dutch SS, they win the battle of mallacca straight.
At Lae some CAs naval bombard as more troops unload.
Finchesfen is pounded, as is Lae, PM is hit, gassmatta is hit hard, and his CV"s strike Lae as well.
I also saw a kitchen sink, stove and pantry come my way today as well.

AM phase
From wewak -17 sally, 45 zeke - 15 p38 and 34 wildcats over lae
4 lost 24 lost 2 s/d 12s/d but the bombers hit nuthin"

19 sally, 37 zeke - 14 p38,22 wildcats
7 lost 8 lost 4s/d 3 s/d, again not much damaged inflicted -the zekes were making their debut -60 experience, so not to bad

OH for some BBs, his CVs have stayed in the same hex for so long now -a real mid ocean intercept opportunity going begging

PM Phase

Ponape bombed
Port Moresby bombed
wake attacked

At lae his AV is 788 to my 394, so its grim
At Chenting my AV is 2856 to his 2789
At tatung my AV is 473, his is 624
Tavoy its 2034 to his 1368 -should I attack back?
tassafronga he continues to try to kill of trapped troops, 66 me to 149 him

Orders for today -dispatching 2 regiments towards PNG from the home islands
Keep on moving in air and rotating air out of the png battles.

And I order a daring raid of 100 plus betties at siapan to hit Eniwetok

A pretty horrible day today -26/11/43

I try to challenge his air power over burma -he is pounding my resources.

First 22 betties strike Akyab - no cap -but poor results too
18 tojo and 48 zeke challenge him over bangkok -30 thunderbolts, 38 liberators.
I lose badly -tojos wiped out, 12 zekes lost
I have to give up here -I have decided that all my air will go south -here it may be able to do something.

35 betty2, and 119 betty1 (yep, still forced to use them) attacked Eniwetok -and 18 P40, and 20 corsair have a party
53 betties lost -all for 4 AKs heavily damaged.

Tavoy bombed, Lae continues to be pounded, and another 20 betties are lost attacking his Uber CAP over his CVs
Over 100 betties lost today -and they probably wont get replaced quickly iether.

Rabual pounded, again tabpub notices a A/C symbol (moved in 4 kates) and simply squashes a base -again no recon -its all magic the way the allies know a base is occupied -matrix this sucks as japan.

Only orders of real note for today, other than air group orders, is to order Chitose and chiyoda to sail on a hit /run mission in the oceans to the east of pearl.

A better day today
I put a lot of LRCAP over Lae today -and his LRCAP ignored it.

His DMS sweep finch, and the BBs bombard it -3 in number
Port moresby is hit, and then 11 tony fight several battles over Lae -shooting down 14 allied planes for only 2 lost
In the PM phase more battles over lae -and again the tonies do OK

He keeps bombing the usual places, and his CVs still remain 2 hexes south of lae

Poor news in China, east of canton I lose a battle, canton is under severe pressure now
I continue to grimly hang on.

A day of heavy air battles over lae and adjacent areas
Hes moved in P38js -and I can tell.

At the end of the dayIve lost nearly 30 tonies, a entire george group is destroyed, he loses a dozen hellcats and other planes
His CV air was thrown into the battle, and crushed my LRCAP

At rabual, osacrs are wiped out as well, and a AP they were covering with a SNLF is sunk -with all hands.

Vic point, tavoy also are naval bombarded.
the pressure grows, and grows.

tabpub, his forces finally fully ashore at lae, retires his CVs.
i actually picked today as a max effort day -and get lucky

4 lilly from Adm.Is attack -and hit a CA
48 zeke, 17 betty,16 oscar,21 sally,19 Lilly attack from Adm.is
NO CAP!
BB Missippi -1 torp -critical hit
BB new mexico -1torp -heavy damage
BB Idaho -1 torp - critical hit!
A Ak is hit in a second 6 plane strike

In the pm phase again battles over lae -as small numbers of bombers and 40 odd zekes battle kittyhawks, no hits and losses are light on both sides

The allies deliberate attack -and forts go down to 7.
Im in trouble at Lae!!!

As November end more attacks go in at lae -and his LRCAP is getting very tired.
1 MSW, 1 DD and 3 AKs hit today, for about 5 planes only lost -judys and kates have come into the fray while his CVs are south.
But forts go down to 6 after another 2 to 1 attack.

Troops are coming from the home islands, and some naval assetts -at last.
Too late for lae I think, but I need to make him fight for each step of the way with at least 2 Divs at each step.

The war continues, most of the action still centered around Lae -with the usual bombing everything else into the stone age.

Today he bombs Lae, Port Moresby, gassmatta.
His fleet has retired south.
Todays battles saw 13 kate and 16 judy finish of a crippled AK near Lae
30 zekes and 10 helens vs 16 boomerang -7 zekes lost, and the helens all missed

In the pm phase he continues the routine of heavy bombing, any player who reaches this date kbnows whats this means, allied airpower is awsome by now

The deliberate attack at Lae 2 to 1, forts down to 6.
Its going to fall, not much I can do about it

Little ordered except some air group shuffles.

The enemy naval bombards Tavoy!
And a very large Cv and BB group is sighted south of Adaman island -is this an invasion?, or5 flanking cover -maybe the fact KB has not been sighted for so long is giving him a second thought.
I hope so!

I have a DD damaged by a ss today, the surface group continues south of bonin island.

Normal bombing -but Tavoy is particularily hammered, 100's of heavies and mediums
1000's of allied sorties today, and not a single jap response

Lae forts down to 5

naval bombardment tavoy again, and a great deal of panic as his CVs reach the entrance of the straights leading to singapore -ships fleeing everywhere!

And more trouble brewing -the death star is now approaching shortlands I would guess.

One thing, tabpub is setting a pattern
Bomb, bomb, bomb
naval strike
Death star approach
At least 4-5 days of unloading -he brings enough supplies for the battle
Death star leaves, and the ground battle starts

But sometimes it appears the invasion fleet remains behind for a little while after the death star.

I see an opening here!
lae down to 4 today, he bombs as usual, I rest today.

Torokina!, his troops bypass shortlands, landing on Bouganville proper to the north
2 NG here, and a base force, enough to fight, but not enough to repell, especially as this appears to be another huge invasion.

My airforce fights today
Wewak attack -27zeke, 34 lilly -20 p38j over lae
12 s/d 8s/d 1s/d
kavieg attacks the invasion - 31tony,24 oscar,15betty -17corsair,33wildcats,14 p38 CAP over the invasion
22 tony lost, all oscars lost, and 14 betty lost, for 4 enemy

but the single betty torps the CVE Chenango!
That pilot is given a special medal!

he lands 2 divisions, americal, 2usmc

The great news of the day though is at Tavoy
he deliberates, after a month of bombing, naval bombardments ect, ect.
0 to1, forts still 9!
3027him to 2266 me
adj 3404 to 6545!
I lose 1000 men to his 4000

Tabpub does express surprise at the result, but i do have all the troops 100% preped for the place, a HQ, and lots of supplies still, and the steady rotation of troops has really helped.

If he tries for Vic point -he will be in for a shock -its even better prepared

lae down to forts 3

I have 2 divs south of tavoy, rotated out, maybe he thought I was retiring.

Other news
Over half the fleet sails today, time to remind him I still have a complete navy, and these ships are all rested, lets use em, but try not to lose em

The pattern continues.
After slotting his CVE, death star returns to cover Torikan landing, troops still unloading
lae down to forts 2
Some air battles over lae, 18 zeke lost today for 4 p38j

But over torikon those cursed corsairs tear 30 zeke and 4 lilly out of the sky, and this was a real blow, those were crack zekes, although as japan in late 43, crack means nothing , its all about numbers now, and fatigue.
His P38j must almost be due for a rotate out of over lae -maybe in 2 days we can strike a real blow.

Big stocktake day,
Well the empire is still functioning, thats about it though.

This turn opens with the CA Nachi hit by a SS south of Guam -and they are duds!
The AM phase sees him bombing all the usual places, and I also lose 3 AK to SS today

Even more enemy troops pour into Tavoy today, I bombard at rahaeng just to check on his strength

At tavoy I count 6divs,4 tank Battalions, 2 tank brigades, 6 ART units, 1 Cav unit and numerous support units.
I defend with 4 Divs , 3 tank regiments , 2 naval guard units, and some base forces

Evil news for the defences down in the south pacific, as Lae falls to the enemy, and the troops allow themselves to be bottled up in Finch.
Now I have to try to get them out!
Every spare SS on the map is ordered to this area.

Little in the way of plans at the moment, its all just delay, delay, delay.
Boring AAR I know, but one must be patient now, no need to throw away the fleet just yet!

Only 2 things to note today

I bomb Lae heavily, no CAP today, the field still wrecked

A big group of Sonias attack Torokina -and they with the escort oscars are annihilated

The key thing about this is that thats that for SONIAS, there pool is empty, and none are being produced, yet another Herbiesan plane falls out of the combat.

I do sink a SS today -at cost of another 3 AK, and a AP.

I look at my notes for this turn, the list of bases he bombed just goes on, and on, and on

He tries to finish Tassafronga off -nearly there.
I bomb Lea

For tomorrow a BIG EFFORT is ordered, I suspect Tabpub will try to run some ships into LAE -my notes say -ATTACK!

To add spice, I finally have 3 CA and 5 DD running around just ouut of Truk, I need to get some fuel to wewak, then start a Tokyo express from there to Finch.

The big day

The enemy scum invade Tulgia.
Another cut off unit is going to be anniliated, I suppose it helps his points, does not effect the war at all though.
Also Kasai island south east of [ponape is being taken, this does advance the war .
I have a terrible day against the SS, a troop convoy is savaged of vigan, being mostly destroyed, a base force sunk

Allied planes move into Lae

Waves of my planes take off today, as ships are sighted in the port as well.
1st wave, 22 tony, 34 zeke escort a mixed bag of sallies and lillies to Lae, the CAP is 24times p38j, and 37 times P40n
The tonies quit, 26 zekes are lost, 5 bombers lost, just 4 enemy shot down and one measly hit on the field

20 zeke, 20 helen next attack -7 p40s s/d, few hits

36 oscar,35 zeke, 35 sally,9 lilly atack from the admiralties
10 p40n s/d, 15 oscars , 8 zeke lost. he is getting tired

23 betty from Truk attack, only 1 lost to his disrupted CAP, but no hits

The PM phase sees the battle continue.
He bombs Ponape, finchesfen, Port Moresby, rabual

15 Tony and 33 zeke escort 43 Kate, 27 judy to lae
17 zeke lost, only 8 bombers lost to Flak, and 9 enemy s/d
DD Claxton is bombed, DD Ballard is I think sunk by a Torp.

Another wave sees more kates and judys escorted by 20 zeke attack
His CAP is just 15 P38 now, still 15 zeke go down.
Another DD -the pillsbury is hit, results are poor though, only 1 AK is hit and sunk, the bombers are just too low experienced now I think.

Tassa fronga finally ends resisting
Tulgia holds today

Tomorrow we will have to begin pulling out north, once lae is up and running its big problems for me!

Today is almost a repeat of yesterday, Georges and zekes headed south with Judys and kates, his CAP of P40ns and kittyhawks defending

The 3 attacks of the day get through OK, and losses are actually about even, but only 1 MSW, and the pillsbury are hit

The turn is spent then pulling out, I need to re organise (again), and get ready for the battles ahead

Some big orders given though, a regiment at soerabaya is ordered to load for timor.
Some CVs sail from japan, points of destination a secret.
A fast transport run from Wewak to Finch is ordered, and some cvs also approach palua, with some heavy escort.
herbiesans fleet is finally returning to the fray.

Today he bombs tavoy, lautern, ponape, Finch, Port moresby (no AA ammao left),rabual, Buka, shortlands.
All these a mix of heavies, and mediums, about 100 to 50 planes each raid.

he fails with an attack near tatung
Tulgia BF is wiped out.

Little else happening.

CVL Ryujo and CA chikuma dodge torps just off palua island -so now he knows some CVs are about.
The fast transport run into Finch is a success -attacked by a SS, but it missed.A good part of a special base force bought out.

Lae launches its first mission, a sweep over madang, 13 zeke against the P38js, only 1 lost though.
But its a bad sign, Im pulling out as fast as I can to the North.

He bombs all over the map.

And makes a big mistake today.
I have had a lot of SS near tavoy, Tabpub tells me he thinks Im using them as troop transports?, and launches a deliberate attack at tavoy

He must be very frustrated in Burma by now

2275 to 2565 (me)
Adjusted 1950 to 9297
0 to 1, forts still 9
3532 casos to 1779

Another great rebuff in Burma

I need to rotate troops again there though, appropiate orders given.
