Well you guys know me I rarely ever buy a game retail, but, I got OOTPBB 2007. It's excellent. The FaceGen is excellent, no more boxes with question marks in them. FaceGen is like a random map generator we all love in games and it gives each player their own unique face. You can also click thru faces and beards and backgrounds until you find the face that you want for that player. The computer will always generate one anyways if you have FacGen turned on. The trading AI is up to par with "my" standards on "hard" settings. It still has some issue with it's average minor leaguers giving them away, but, if you house rule it to 3 players for 1 the rest of it's trading habits are great. It's also better at getting younger players and not paying out the ying yang for older players whos stats have dropped off the charts. It also has "make this trade happen now" features that basically have the AI tell you what it wants for their player(s). This is usually an most common one of your 25 ML players or someone off your 40 man roster. Rarely or actually so far never have I seen it ask for a draft pick or money. It also has a new feature called "shop player" which brings up a list of teams and players they are willing to offer for that particular player. This is a great new feature and can save you hours of trading time. There is also so much more you can do with your coaches now as you can set their strategy for how you want them to coach just like you can set your own. You have lots more scouts now instead of just one. You can send them in all different directions to scout or have them all scout something at the same time and just like players you'll have to determine which scout you can trust most. Though just like in real life no scout is perfect. It has draft pick trading now. Probably one of my favorite features of the new game. Now you don't always have to give up your star players in trades you can give up prospects instead thru draft pick trading. With the new ways you can adjust and setup the game and modifiers you can get historical accuracy much much better than before. It's almost like the real thing now to me. I recommend it of course, but, it's always been my favorite statistical baseball game since Front Page Sports Baseball 98. The only thing for me that is still missing is player animations batting, hitting and running the bases and throwing outs. Maybe in the future someday. ;) You can also now manage a minor league team, basically start out at the bottom and try to work your way up into the majors. This is another role playing element of the game you just don't see in other games. Try going from Single A to the majors it ain't easy baby. lol It is true this version has no sound, I actually don't know why Markus chose to exclude sound, but, it doesn't make it a bad game because it has no sound. That's bascially just fluff anyway and if you are a baseball simmer you know that the fluff really doesn't interest you if the rest of the the game has no stuff. For those that like to coach it has all the bells and whistles you mostly could want. All that pitch by pitch stuff (I never play that, too boring and takes too long lol). I don't mind watching it like in FPSBB 98, but, I don't want to have to call a pitch every single time. To me it's like a major overhaul of 6.5a, but, of course it's not perfect and it does have some design issues I'd rather have been fixed or changed like the auto default top of the page scroll bar every single time you back space back to a page with a scroll bar. If you got used to 6.5a you'll have to get reaquainted with where things are again for sure. It doesn't have the full page features of 6.5a in several places and you have to call up other windows to get to some stats that you want more often than none. You can also create and edit your own uniforms now from caps, to shirts to logos and team names, this portion will be modders dream come true. I'm no modder, so, I'll just download what will be offered and there's going to be lots of stuff modders are doing for this portion. Like team names across players chests on their jerseys. The main thing I see at the official site is many people are excited over the accuracy of the stats. The high ERA's of 6.5a are a thing of the past also. Pitchers that pitched 2's and 3's ERA's are pitching 2's and 3's ERA's. I'm more of a fantasy simmer myself, more interested in building a dynasty than playing a season over. Though I will use actual players of the present to start out my fantasy leagues.@MKing55 If one is willing to put in the time setting up the game and the strategy for each team I think they will find a very challenging and fun experience with OOTP 2007. ;)
