Greetings all. Just purchased this game, mainly because it looks like it has a pretty good PBEM community. My question is, how big is the PBEM file that's created each turn? I have dial-up at home, so if it's large it could be problematic to send and receive...

My files range from 16kB to 50kB.  Very dial up friendly :)

Thanks! I noticed an issue with a bug occurring if using 'Secure' PBEM. What's the downside if Secure PBEM is not chosen?

A non-secure game requires a good deal of trust between the two players. A player can replay the current turn any number of times and can even open and look at the opponents turn.

The plus side to non-secure (which I only use now for the 76 & 80 turn DB scenarios) is that the PBEM game can survive a computer crash.

To add more on what JSS says.

AFAIK, you have to play a "secure" PBEM on the same computer, while a "non-secure" can be played anywhere.

In a "secure" setting, the game stores the game parameters and status on the computer so that a player cannot cheat by messing with the files.

Cheers,

JeF.

Yep. JeF is spot on here. So if you're lucky enough to be able to install the game on your work computer, you could play the non-secure turn over your "lunch" break... send, and with any luck, be able to play the next turn when you get home.
