Hi Folks,

I need advice from everyone. I have funds to purchase a new computer baseball game and I have narrowed it to these two -- PureSim and Action PC Baseball. They both sound great! The description on the Action PC Baseball website sounds like it is a wonderful game. I suspect that everyone here may be a little biased but I really would like some input. Does anyone here have any experience with the "other" game? How about the AI in both games? Is one a better manager than the other?

Thanks,
Longstreet

Have you looked at OOTPB? The 2007 edition was just released. This is the best baseball sim on the market IMO. But you may have your reasons for disregarding it. I just want to make sure it didn't fly under your radar. :)

Hi FlyingElvis,

Would you be so kind as to provide a link to their website? I need to look at this some more.

Thanks,
Longstreet

I've purchased both the new OOTP and puresim --- you can't go wrong with either --- most feel puresim has all the fun of the game with out the "work" involved in playing OOTP --

Well, admittedly I am strongly biased towards Pure Sim, but my advice is to try out the available demos, read what the respective games' forums have to say, and make your best judgement. It all depends on what you want out of the game, and your preferred style of play.

As for Pure Sim, check out the "Locker" association reports. These really help give a newbie a "feel" for what kind of game PS is. Of course, there is a demo, but the game has undergone several enhancement stages since then.

OOTPBB 2007 hands down. In relation to $$'s for value I think OOTPBB gives the most for those $$. But, as others have said it depends on your play style. Do you just like simming historical seasons or would you like a game that does "both" historical seasons and fantasy team play? Would you like to manage a minor league team and work your way up to the majors as a manager/coach? Well you can do that also in OOTPBB 2007.  Plus the community of OOTPBB is huge, there's always a ton of leagues open for play, practically a new one starting everyday. There's all kinds also from old timers leagues to present day to fantasy only. Full draft to take em as they were. Of course as with all games there are sacrifices you have to make like sound, animated graphics and things like that. All three have their qualities. Try the demos and then make a decision.

I have had a blast with PureSim, and can't see purchasing the others.  I enjoy the sound and ball effects.    But, like KG said, try out the demos, and decide from there.  The PureSim demo and the Locker reports was enought to get me hooked.

I've played Action PC and OOTP but I always end up coming back to PureSim. Action was great for a season replay but I wanted something were I could continue on to another season. I like OOTP but it always ends up feeling too much like work.

PureSim for me hit the sweet spot for me as far as replays, careers, and great customization. I'm now into my 3rd season of an association where I manage all the games so I am definitely hooked.

As always though people have their own preferences and so I would try out the demos.

I agree alot with what cdvalenta descibed. I have played all 3 but always find myself coming back to Puresim, althou the new OOTP 2007 is alot of Fun. For me I usually play Fictional leagues, so I have to manage by the numbers, not the names. I like how PS and OOTP allow you to create a universe and then continue it on for as long as you like.
For actual replay ActionPC baseball was/is good, the interface is good. for me I would rate
PureSim #1, OOTP 2007 #2, ActionPC #3 -- The ActionPC Football game is alot of Fun also.

Longstreet,

I saw this post and I felt compelled to respond.  Puresim and Action PC baseball are two different baseball games.  I have both (2006 Action PC version, not 2007).  Both have their strengths.  Puresim has a great career play where you can play the history of the major leagues.  Action PC, however, has a great managerial strategy mode where you can put on plays like the suicide squeeze, pickoffs, decide to send a runner home, etc.  Both have an animated ball flight where you can see the players (represented by little boxes) on the field.  I feel the animation draws you into the game than just reading a play-by-play description.  If you're interested in the Action PC game, I suggest to go the dksports.com website and enter the baseball forum.  Be sure to ask the guys there how they feel about the game.

Hello Longstreet,

I have played the following games and they all have the good points.  It would depend on your personal taste.  As KG mentioned, it would be best to try the demo. Personally I favor PureSim for ease of play but like OOTP for it's depth.  I have listed the games I have tried along with their URL's so you can check them out yourself.  Good luck!

OOTP Baseball 2007 www.ootpdevelopments.com
Baseball Mogul 2008 www.baseballmogul.com
PureSim Baseball 2007 (you are here)

I have never tried Action PC but looking at the pricing scheme I don't think I would pay that much.  Don't like the idea of having to pay for the season data separately. Reminds me of Diamond Mine Baseball. To rich for my blood.

I wish you the best.  You can always do like me and get em all

Sincerely,

Rob.
