This has probably been asked already, but I keep getting this PBEM error from time to time (usually game has already been running for few turns by PBEM, with no problems): after I try to load the game, it replies "savegame failed to load". Any suggestions what might be causing this? Re-sending the game files by the opponent doesn't seem to correct the situation. The irritating part is that it doesn't happen every time, I have completed several PBEM games successfully. --Inf

Well Paul has stated that in secure PBEM games, (those with paswords), there is encryption being done to the file, and that you need to make sure that you do not immediately hit the "Exit" button after the save, as this can corrupt the file, as Windows hasn't finished writing it to disk.

Hi Guys! This is more true with slower computer, after exiting the battle screen wait a bit before exiting the game. A good way to tell if the file was fully encrypted is to have a look in a word prosesser and if you can read some of the info the encryption failed, it should be all garble. Another way is when you zip you file and is very small EX= 75kb then you know it did not work properly. Fully encrypted files in a game in progress once zip up will run in size 300kb and up. This is only an average of the size. Big battle with lots of arty and smoke, wreck, large map will be much bigger once zip up. hope this helps. Thanks for the info, fellows, The .dat file (email0.dat in my case) seems intact (its all garbled). The zip-file however is indeed rather small - 102kb in fact. This seems strange, since in last turn there was *a lot* of smoke on map, due to massive Russian artillery barrage. Windy or not, it can't disappear that fast... Lets hope my opponent still has the previous turn files stashed somewhere (I was silly enough to delete them - lesson learned). --Inf
