That is, it doesn't handle what we call submods. Submods take advantage of most of the files in a mod, while changing small portions for a particular effect.

In CC3 Configuration Manager, changes dependant on a mod could easily be handled as each "package" was in a separate folder, where the "org" files could be resident. In Cross of Iron Modswap, there seems to be one folder as backup, with the files not being renamed in any way. So as the submod is installed, it overwrites the stock backups, and as it is uninstalled it moves those files back in while leaving the backup empty. Uninstalling the mod therefore leaves files missing in the stock game.

So this serves as a heads-up for current users. I'm pretty sure an Infantry version of the Vietnam mod will be released as a stand-alone mod. It may also be useful for ppl to have an option for simple file transfer instructions if dl size is an issue.

Let's hope the Devs will implement a function to make submods work the old way. I'm sure there will soon be some submods for the common mods.

It is being looked at but we will have to make do for the time being.

I agree that it will be an valuable fix, but that other priorities must be handled first.  The important thing is to know how to handle the issue, and to prevent the release of Modswap submods that will cause problems for now.

Any submodding should be done with simple file transfer for now.

Presumably there is nothing to prevent you stealing the best bits from several different mods and rolling them into one for personal use?

Mods are open slather to do with as you wish... for personal use.

If you were to roll bits into one, that would be a new mod.

An example of a submod would be to change only the Soldiers.txt file in Data/Base, to give every PPS soldier extra body armor, and then you could have roving bands of indestructable Cossaks.
