Status: offline 		Had this game for over a week and really do like it - ( It's a nice breather from WitP )

Anyway - I was wondering if there is a fan site up or any homemade guides or anything else out there to help me get a grasp of the economic model...

My main problem right now is that as I build up my military ( on hard level ) to expand and fight off everyone else, I can't generate enough silver to pay my troops, and if i raise taxes too much, everyone gets pissed at me and I can't raise troops in town... so I get a cap on my troop level and the hordes just keep coming in...

I've tried conquering cities w/ silver mines and selling gold, ect... but can't keep up...

Then I also run into problems w/ food when armies are on the march - so I have to import tons of food

I'm expanding my economy, researching better farms and silver mines, ect...

anyway - there I am...

Do you have a training complex? They're worth the investment.

If you're having problems w/ cash and food, sounds like your army is too large. Building city walls allows for a one unit garrison. It will save a lot.

Control and expansion of big cities (Athens, Sparta, Argos, etc.) allows you to concentrate food production where it's most economical. As an example Thebes w/ a 2 plantations, a marketplace and one of the wonders can feed a chunk of your empire. You can also concentrate all your military builds in say Corinth.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the info - I've been to the Slitherine site and while it has alot more than our site in regards to info - still no links to strategy or fans sites...

My problem is the periord right before I have city walls in the grand campaign - I'm being wore out by the Spartans and Rhodinians while playing the Athenians - I have 16 cites, but I'm constantly having to build militay units and can't pay off either side to keep them off my backs...

Do you know any strategy guides or links to fan sites??

How 'bout them MAVS!

Status: offline 		Not aware of any strategy guides. If you mean Persians instead of Rhodinians you're probably in trouble. Being at war w/ the Persians and Spartans at the same time is something Athens avoided historically. I can't give much advice other than research city walls and get them built as soon as possible. It will at least give you breathing space. Reduce whatever "safe" garrisons to just one unit. Building shrines (which are pretty cheap) or expanding libraries will allow you to raise the tax rate much higher.

In future campaign games, spend all that you have to to suck up to the Persians until you are secure (i.e. you've conquered Boetia, Euboea, Megara, Corinth, Aigina and the Cyclades and you have city walls).

Argh. Don't mention the Mavs.

Status: offline 		I own "Chariots of War", the Matrix edition.

I presume that this is "Spartan" you're talking about (I recognize you're talking Peloponnesian war, based on the cities), but I'm not sure 'cause the subject title referenced "GoT et al"?

My question is, do the economic models for the games vary much from "Chariots" to GoT to "Spartan"? I know there are different metals and such, and obviously different units and costs, and some added facilities --- but are we basically talking about the same model of managing resources to supply/build troops and build improvements, while keeping people content/happy/etc? Or, have the game mechanics changed considerably with each new release?

Also, has this game series AI improved or changed a lot? If so, which do you think is best?

I enjoy "Chariots" so far, and am managing OK at the "Hard" level, but do so by micromanaging my Trade settings every month. Thus I'm generally more-or-less stocked with the various resources I need, as I carefully, conservatively (i.e. ponderously?) gobble up territory. McClellan would have been proud.

Anyway, point is the gameplay for "Spartan" sounds more interesting and challenging. Particularly the diplomatic and Naval options?

Thanks for any info .... it'll help me decide whether to buy more than Chariots.

Status: offline 		They get expanded as to resources and development, but the system is the same. It's been a while since I played Chariots, but I believe the ai is better in Spartan. On hard it's a very good challenge. I would recommend Spartan and Troy to anyone, especially if they're already familiar with the series.
