After Downloading new scenarios or old ones that I do not have, I usually extract them and if I need to renumber the scenario, I do at this time. When I open up the game sometime the old number appears in the slot with the title of the scenario. Other times when I do not have to renumber the scenario it will appear in the game without any numbers. I would like to be consistent and either have the correct scenario numbers appear or be able to edit and remove all reference to any scenario numbers.

At some point in time, I plan on organizing the scenarios by the date of the battle and the specific theatre, but I would like the listing to orderly and neat. Since I am retired, I will have plenty of time to complete the task. I would appreciate any suggestions to resolve this small problem, thank you.

George

I think you are just pading your post count.  16 posts in 6+years?

Renumbering the files tells the game what slot it goes to.

The number in the title of the scenario is done when the scenario is created and a title is given. You would have to edit the scenario and give it the new title.

I have no idea if I am correct but gave you my best guess.

You know a program called SPWAW Scenario Search? With that you can find any word you want mentioned in scenario txt. F.e. if you want to find 'Germany', type that to program and it'll find all scenarios where that word is mentioned. If you want that, please let me know (with your email) via PM and I'll send it to you.

As junk said: To change the scenario number, just change numbers of all three/four files (like scen024.dat to scen234.dat etc). To change number that is shown in-game scenario list, use 'edit', load scenario and save it again with different name (number).

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, but let's get something straight. This was my first post to this section of the forum. Second when you download scenarios from the game depot, there are occassions when you have to change the numbers of the slot they are to go into because some scenario designers always use low numbers such 016 for example. If you did not change the number, you would be putting the scenario into a slow that it is already being used. All I was asking for a way to change the numbers so that the number 016 does not show up in the game after I have assigned it to another slot. To have to go in and change the title seems to be the extreme solution.

I have posted to other sections of the forum in the past, but that has been 4 or five years ago. I am not interested in padding any post count, just seeking solution to a perceived problem which probably only interest me.

I was attempting to be humourous but I guess it didn't work. Sorry.

I'm still not sure what your question is so maybe someone with some knowledge will come along and help you.

Extract files first to some other folder. For example you can make 'renumber' folder inside your SCEN folder. After you've extracted files there, just rename them with some free number (f.e. scen016.dat to scen416.dat etc) and then move them to SCEN folder.

When I start to download, I send the files to SPWAW downloads. After I have completed the download, I extract the files and if there is no conflict with the scenario numbers, I send them directly to the "scen" file. But if there is a file already in the file location indicated on the download file. I change the number while I am in Windows Explorer, then move it to the "scen" file. Often times when I view the files under the scenario listing on the game, I will see for example something like this: Under slot number 504, I see "Toll Bridges" with no indication of the slot number. Or I will see something like this in slot 505, "018-Two Tigers of Malinava." What I would like to do is to make these examples read like all of the other entries in this listing, but I can not find any information on how to do this. Editing the scenario does show you how to do this. I have opened up the scenario text file in notepad and it does not show the numbers assigned to each scenario. If it did, changing the numbers would be easy. All I am looking for is some easy way to make all of the entries in the scenario listing look the same. as is right now, it looks sloppy. Also at the some point in time I would like to organize the scenario files in consistent mannier using the date the scenario started and by the theatre of where the conflict took place. Righ now, everything is helter skelter. So I would appreciate any help that I could get on trying overcome this minor problem

That is made in-game. Go to game, choose 'solitaire play', choose 'editor'. Load the file in question. Save it and name it with the number you want.

Yes, I renumber all of the files associated with a particular scenario file.

I tried your suggestion, it works. Thanks for the information. To get the listing to look like the same through out, it is going to take me a while, but it will keep me out of trouble. Once again thanks.

That's good to hear

(Both that it works and that you'll stay out of troubles for awhile )
