Crown of Glory is truly phenomenal! Congratulations on designing and making such an excellent game! I admire the way it blends the effects of different things, such as the influence of trade on both economics and diplomacy. I bought it recently, read through all 240 pages of rules, and played a few games. It's strikingly similar in spirit (but not, for obvious reasons, in level of detail) to my favorite boardgame, the CTG variant of Napoleon in Europe. Please consider the following ideas (and questions), which could both increase historical accuracy and improve game play. I am still reading through the old forum posts, so I apologize if these issues have been covered before. * It's easy to miss some things when taking on a project of such huge scope; I experienced this when developing the CTG variant for NIE. One of the the things I learned then is that the Kingdom of Naples became a willing member of the anti-French 3rd Coalition in September 1805. Although somewhat related by family ties, Naples was very much not under the control of Spain. So, Naples should not be a Spanish protectorate at the start of the Standard scenario. I suggest making it independent, with a strong pro-British bias, favorable to a lesser degree with Austria and Russia, and hostile to France and Spain. I can figure out how to do this as a mod I suppose, but it would be nice to see it included in an official update. It is right indeed to have St. Cyr's French army start in Naples; it was sent there to guard against the expected arrival of British and Russian forces from Malta and Corfu. The fleet Nelson destroyed at Trafalgar was trying to reinforce the French army in Naples; since those reinforcements didn't arrive, St. Cyr was compelled to abandon Naples and march up the Italian peninsula. * Why not consider Spain to be at war only with Britain in September 1805? The closest I think Spain came to fighting any of the other coalition members was the proposed invasion of Sweden via Denmark several years later (they had some troops there in 1807/1808), but this never actually came off. If Trafalgar hadn't happened, Spain might have gone into action against Naples, but they weren't at war with Naples in 1805. It seems it would be better to have Spain unfriendly but not at war with Austria and Russia at the start of the Standard scenario (unfriendly enough for example to prevent trade). This change and detaching Naples should give Spain a more realistic role in the war (and in the chase for 1000 glory), thus improving game play. * How about requiring a treaty clause be in place for any ships besides the Ottomans' to be able to move between the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea? I find it extremely unrealistic that Russian ships can sail right through the Bosphorus even when Turkey and Russia are at war. A treaty clause would seem to handle this well. * Could we have a treaty clause allowing trading goods between national stockpiles? It would be good, for example, for Russia to be able to give Britain a large shipment of timber and wine instead of just subsidizing them with gold. This would be particularly interesting in PBEM games. * Is there something included in reports, or somewhere, when a royal marriage takes place? I can't find it if there is. That could at least be recorded, and maybe animated briefly with fireworks or whatever. * It would be nice to have a log, per game instead of per nation, of "major" events going all the way back to the start of each game. It might be difficult to decide what would qualify as a major event, but it's the kinds of things you would want to describe in an AAR. At least declarations of wars and surrenders, huge battles, etc. * Are labor bonuses from having POWs in your provinces working? I can't tell from the updated manual. * Will an army with a support order respond to an invasion in the supported province if there are no defenders other than garrision troops in the province? In other words, will they respond to just an attack on an army there, or a siege, or just moving through a province? I hope "all of the above", but am not clear on this. * What is the reasoning behind not being able to cede an island? * Could you add the possibility to wound Generals instead of kill them? Make them out of action for a few months, perhaps. * Here are a couple "they'll never go for this" thoughts: how about having different uniforms for the Turkish troops (for example in Quick Combat), and having some nice, colorful chart displays for tracking the history of national morale and glory, and maybe economics, for example with multiple nations and/or provinces tracked on one chart? * Having a scenario that starts in 1802, right after the Treaty of Amiens (i.e. historical, but no nations begin the scenario at war), would be brilliant. Sorry this post is so long, and thanks again for this great game, Alan Richbourg aka CTG
