If, he found a bargain bin birthday cake($5.00) he will be a happy camper.

I noticed that Ravinhood forgot to put down the year of his birth in the member info.

That's because it only goes back to 1907

Now if Ravin would just give me his address. I bought him Command & Conquer 3 and Europa Universalis 3 as birthday presents.

Happy B-day RH, may all your years be turn-based!

Gawd C&C 3? Help! EU III I got though it was on sale at Gogamer I think for $14.00.
Now, to list what I bought me for my birthday.

1) Birth of a America for $15.00 (amazon has it on sale)
2) Gun for $5.00
3) Call of Duty Game of the Year Edition (think it has all the expansions) $4.25
4) Imperial Glory $11.00
5) Knights of Honor $19.99
6) Siatek P990 game controller (for the Godfather game) $20.00

Not bad eh? 6 items for $76.00  ;)

Regarding items 2,4 and 5 on your list : you're just like my wife : $35 wasted on crap you only bought because it was a bargain

EUIII is a great game and pretty new...no wonder people think the PC market is taking a nose dive, what with new games being 1/3rd the price, so many hardware configurations as to make it impossible to release a bug free game and, when they do release the game, the backlash that occurs (Silent Hunter IV? Theatre of War?)

I'm not saying you shouldn't get a bargain if it's about (why would anyone pay £30 when it's on offer somewhere at £15?)...then again, maybe we shoudl if we want our hobby to continue.

I don't know. Anyway, from what I recall, Imperial Glory was a game I was very much looking forward to and it let me down.

I hope you enjoy them, though.

Bargain bin prices are like going to a movie to me. Some movies are crap. Some are pretty good. How many movies can you goto for $4.25 nowadays and get to keep the movie afterwards? $11 for Imperial Glory is a decent price for what I read to be a poc game by grogs, but, casual drive by night gamers seemed to like it. Remember I'm not into this historical fubar must be realistic and accurate syndrome of most wargamers here. I like my wargames pretty light for the most part. You'll rarely see me buy the likes of a WitP or Battles in (whatever country) or TOAW's, etc. I'm more the Combat Mission, SPWAW abstract tactical battles (I rarely play the boxed scenarios or campaigns), Spartan and Tin Soldiers:Ceasar things like that.

Knights of Honor got some pretty great reviews as well from the casual gamer. I like medieval games. Have played both MTW (great game), Crusader Kings (another great game AFTER the final 1.05 patch note: I paid like $4.99 for CK), now interested in trying out this version of a Medieval type game. It scored much higher than lets say than UFO Extraterrestrials recently. ;) Even beat out TOW by 1pt. Imperial Glory pulled in the 70's overall as well. I wouldn't say it's a wargamers wargame. It's a gamers wargame. They have Korsun Pocket for less than $10, but, I just ain't interested in that.

The thing with me though if I get one good game out of the 5 (the Siatek controller doesn't count) then I'm not going to feel ripped off as it was before when I bought game after game for $40-$50 and got ripped off 3/4th of the time. A $5.00-$20 game that is crap is much better than a $50 game that is crap. Even if they are both crap, one smells just a bit less rank than the other. ;) Plus, I got alllllllll the patches already downloaded now and only had to download just ONE, instead of umpteen jillion. BOA may have more coming I just downloaded the 1.12 one though.

Also, actually I'm pretty interested in "GUN". I have GTA-VICE CITY and San Andreas and The God Father games (this is actually better than the GTA's since it has wall hugging combat). I like those for action shooters. I like them better than say first person shooters like Ghost Recon or Operation Flashpoint and the like. The only FPSer I can stand for the most part is BF42, the only one of the series I own, never bought any expansions or whatnot. One shooter is plenty since they all feel alike, run n gun and piss off your teammates in online play. lol I did buy Call of Duty because it was a bargain (like your wife lol). I don't really care for linear shooters, but, for $4.25 I figured I'd give it a looksee, this edition does come with several expansions.

It's kinda funny though the game that fits more into the catagory of your wife is going to be BOA (shock). I'm not really interested in boargame type no tactical battles wargames (games like Forge of Freedom, For Liberty and Crown of Glory I like), but, for the price I figured I'd help the ole boys out who developed it. It is a new game not a used one so they should get a penny or two off the sale. ;)

Actually, Knights of Honor is a good game, but I'm not sure I would call it "gaming lite." Despite is simple exterior, it has a learning curve that rivals Crusader Kings and makes Medieval:TW look like simply a string of RTS battles conveniently pieced together by a mostly worthless strategy board (well... it IS). I like KOH a lot, but simple it is not, especially when you start infiltrating spies, creating knights to be in administrative roles, try to get trade goods by any means, and go to war with your neighbors and need to levy tons of troops. I'm suprised it is still $19.99, the price I paid for it nearly 2 years ago.

And Dredd, calmez-vous about EUIII and the state of computer gaming. GoGamer.com is well known for its 48-hours sales that really drop the price of select games. A recent one saw EUIII go to aroun $14-19, but now it is back up to $37. I used one of those 48 hours sale to buy the CH version of Silent Hunter IV. Found out that the Chronometer did not work and resold it on e-bay for nearly a $20 profit! Smart buying if you ask me!

RH, can't believe you have GTA:ANYTHING!!!! Wow, that makes me re-evaluate my perceptions of you completely! Personally, the GTA games bore me, I can only beat up so many hookers/cops/gang-members and steal so many cars/vans/trucks to take them on so many repetitive missions before I say "bleck!"

Lol SOM I like GTA's for other reasons than just the gaming aspect. You know there are just things we can't get away with in real life that we can in a game. The GTA's give me that freedom to express myself. lol Plus I like the music mpg's I can setup for the car radio and I also like to drive fast with the freedom to go anywhere not like a racing game where you go around an oval track or closed in track. I bought them all less than $20 anyways. ;) San Andreas is fun because you get to ride bicycles in it and pop wheelies etc. I can't get past the bouncing cars scenario in that one I always lose that one.

Come move to the Bronx and you can learn all of the intricate details of the Lowrider.

Actually, I have never seen a lowrider in action here in NYC. I know there are some here, but I think it is more of an East Coast thing.

That is a hard mission, I remember it being rather a pain. My least favorite was this one where you have to take a moped/scooter and chase after this train with bad-guys to kill. It was just plain silly hard. San Adreas was the best I played (but even then I Ebayed it before I got too far, mine was one of the last remaining run that still had the ability to "unlock" the Hot Coffee mod and thus was worth more on Ebay). The MP3 aspect was great! Although the songs I played were remarkably non-gangsta. Nothing like listening to Ben Folds while jacking a car. Or worse Cat Stevens or John Denver (I know, I know).

What I usually do when I get to a hard part in the GTA's is just advertise on Gamespy for one of the kiddies to send me one of their save files after something I can't do. I can do the shooters and chases ok. But, those follow the arrows perfectly gimmicks are just too much for me. I can't believe of all the games with cheats out there this one doesn't come with a bypass mission cheats. That's the most rediculous thing I ever saw in these types of games no bypass mission cheats.

@SOM also did you know there's a 1.05 patch for Knights of Honor now? I think it was just released Jan 07 of this year if I'm not mistaken when I was downloading it. Just FYI if you didn't know. Took a long time in coming it appears since the game initially released in 2004 didn't it?
