Hi

I've been a SSG fan for many years and have played CAW/CCAW extensively and have used the CCAW editor to sucessfully make a number of different scenarios.

I'm keen to upgrade some of my existing scenarios using CAW as well as build some new ones. I'm keen to try some RN vs IJN games (Trincomalee plus variants, HMS Victorious in the Solomons 1943) but was wondering if Jess or Gregor could comment on just how practical the idea of editing stuff in the new version of CAW is.

Will creating/editing ship and planes be possible like it was in the CCAW editor using .lbm files and then using the packing routines or will the new higher level of graphics with top down as well as profiles preclude this?

With maps is it possible to create maps outside the area of the Pacific area mini-map shown in the bottom right corner of the screenshots?

Looking forward to CAW arriving shortly...I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Cheers

The new CAW uses a completely new resource system but any moderately capable paint program can be used to create the resources. The new editor is a lot easier to use than the old one (lots of drop down menus and other user aids) so you'll definitely enjoy using it.

When it comes to creating new maps and ships, all this is possible but the best idea will be to head over to the SSG forums when the game is out where advanced stuff like this will be discussed and supported.

Gregor

Thanks for that Gregor, covers my questions pretty well.

Given that the editor is the same as the one used to create the new CAW scenarios (ie pretty powerful), if I wanted to revamp some Pacific scenarios included in CCAW that won't make it into the new CAW game (eg Tawara, Plan Orange) would there be any issues about that if they were uploaded to the SSG site and the original scenarios were acknowledged as being the starting point?

Don't want to steal anyones ideas but keen to play some updated CCAW stuff.

Cheers

Its probably a good idea to email me at support@ssg.com.au before you get too far advanced on any SSG scenarios, just so we can avoid any possible duplication.

I really liked the Warcard editor, although it wasn't easy to use, but the way it showed how to program the AI was very informative and in an odd way, entertaining. Glad to hear that there will be some user interface improvements. This is another day one game from Matrix (and SSG) for me

I'd agree that the Warcard editor was a bit daunting when I first tried it but by working through some of the scenarios it was a lot easier to see how things worked. Looks like the system has been improved and some extra cards added this time around.

From some comments in the development update thread over on the SSG site it appears that CAW is ready to go gold so the we shouldn't have to wait much longer...I hope!

Reading between the lines I'd say that SSG certainly intends to add further scenarios sometime in the future too.
