Is there any advantage tactically to assigning a general, say, from New York to command a division that was created in New York? that is, if two generals with the same ratings commanded a division, but one of them was from the same state as his division, would that matter?

The game doesn't track that sort of thing. In our opinion, while it would add some historicity, it would add a whole new layer of micromanaging that would probably turn off more players than it would appeal to.

Karl Rove once used a great analogy when describing building coalitions: it's like holding a lot of marbles in your hand, and when you try to add new marbles seeing others fall out of your grasp. Designing war games is the same -- try to add features that appeal to grogs and you lose the casual player, or try to make some elements abstract and lose the grogs. This seemed to be the decision that would lose us the fewest marbles...

...darn... guess you're just going to have to make the "Expanded Version" with all the extra bells and whistles for the die hards (isn't this like the DVD movie business these days?)...

Interesting. So you're suggesting that this be reclassified as "FOF Light" (or "FOF Lite"?), and make the next one the FOF for real men? It's a new marketing scheme, I'll admit...

More like FoF standard and FoF advanced.

Uh... more like... Lord of the Rings: Theatrical Versions..., Lord of the Rings:  Special Extend Edition..., and finally?: Lord of the Rings: Limited Edition Versions....    So release a FoF, FoF Extended Edition, and then FoF Limited Edition,  then come out with FoF v 2

Actually, I think they (WCS) have done a reasonable job with the utilization of the options screens. You can pretty well, simplifiy or complicate it to whatever amount of play detail that you wish. Hopefully, any new advanced features can be added utilizing the option screen also, and thereby continue to reasonably please both crowds (casual players and grognards)

Yes but is that going to be advanced options, intermediate options or basic options? Presumably each will need a screen so we may need an options screen selection screen too? Unless that becomes a preference?

... well a FoF Extended Edition could break Advanced into ... Basic Advanced and Intermediate Advanced... then a Limited Edtion could include the Advaced Advanced stuff.... of course the Advanced Advanced stuff will only be for those that go out and re-enact the battles and input the results....
