I used to have the original Carriers At War on the Commodore 64 and I played it to death. I remember buying Run 5 magazine and typing in the scenarios. This was one the best games ever made for any computer. Even on the C64 the AI was fantastic and I can honestly say it was this game that got me interested in both wargaming and military history.

When I read that the game was being updated for XP I was a like a little kid again! I've been following the development since the announcement. It was going to be ready for last christmas but what the hell, I've waited this long for it so what's a few more months

Going to download it tomorrow and then play this version to death. I hope the scenarios which were originally included in Run 5 will be made available in some form at some point for this version. If I remember there was a scenario about the Japanese raid on Ceylon in April 1942. You couldn't do much as the RN in this scenario but I do recall once managing to sink the Akagi with the squadron of Blenhiems based at Colombo (or Trimcomalee). Ah the memories!

I hope that this game becomes a resounding success and the burgeoning community here flourishes in the same way the WITP forum has. WITP is great but as far as I am concerned Carriers At War is the granddaddy of them all and the reason I still play wargames to this day.

Thanks SSG and Matrix. You have made a grown man very happy!

I haven't purchased the game, but I plan to. It sounds as though its more arcadish than hardcore games like War in the Pacific.
