Hi

Yes I am working on it.  I expect it will be a July release God willing since we already released three titles this month and have one more ready to go.  We are planning to make two sets one on the Civil War and One on the Napoleonics Wars with possibly with Age of Sail thrown in.  These will be updated to work in Windows XP and Vista OS.  There will be no major new game features but will be priced to make everyone happy.  I going to guess around $29.99 per bundle and maybe a discount if you buy both together.  I still working out these details.  There might also be some new games in the series but we need to take a wait on that.

David

Do you mean new scenarios using the existing maps, or whole new battles? Example: The Wilderness, or Chancellorville, etc...?

Since I'm the author of some add-on battles, I'm wondering if the old mods will work also with the new release ...maybe with some adjustments...
...modding will be allowed or there will be restrictions and blocks?

Thanks again for keeping alive the BG dream :)

Dear Developers. If you have any mercy upon the poor devils who want to buy and play the Battlegrounds, please pretty please make a Chancellorsville/Wilderness scenario. With a new, beautiful, artistic, large 3d map, better than the one made by the players' community, which, sorry to say, does not reflect the actual battlefield properly.

As far as the Napoleonic period is concerned, there is such a plenty to choose from - Jena/Auerstaedt, Austerlitz, Eylau (a great map has been made by the community), Friedland, Wagram...

How many battles are you planning to add to the original? Will there be large 3d maps, which make the Battleground series a real feast for the eyes?

Rhetor, if you are looking for a Wilderness scenario, I'm working an a massive one, with a giant, new map drafted form the topographical maps and from the old maps available... only the map required almost an year of work ...if are you interested read the following discussion:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1330196
...there should be also a download link for the beta version ...I don't know if the link still works, if not I'll reload again the package.

As David implied, it will be some time before any new games are released. I'm sure they will want to see how many units sell, before committing to new releases. It's certainly a good price to be able to get all the ACW titles bundled for just $29.99.

David, will there be any engine enhancements, similar to the HPS games?

Seeing as how the BG games are battle oriented while HPS has focused more on the campaign aspects, I think it is unlikely that Matrix will try to turn BG into a campaign style series. However, I would like to suggest that the game maps be expanded greatly in order to enhance the room for extensive maneuver and flanking actions. This would not require new game mechanics, only expanded map graphics (similar to what is being done independently on the Wilderness mod).

This is probably very doable (again, look at the fantastic job on the Wilderness map!). Some scenario revision would be in order to add more options that would take advantage of expanded maps (variable arrival locations and timing) as well as new objective point valuations to open up the strategy of each battle. Scenarios could also be expanded with more "what if" options and enhanced orders of battle (Longstreet's Corps at Shiloh, for example?).

And new battles, of course, as David has already hinted at.

Just a few thoughts.

Increasing the size of the maps is a must in some cases. In BG:Gettysburg the area between the Big Round Top and the edge of the map is so small, that it even excludes the quite possible option of coming around the Round Tops. The biggest flaw of the Gettysburg release of the BG series - in my opinion.

Well if that's the case, some updated screen shots would be nice. The ones on the website are atrocious. I don't really know this series, so some info on it's game website would be nice.

Gettysburg, which was my introduction to this series and, I believe the source of the crappy screenshots, was an awesome game that I am waiting for with great anticipation. I don't know if you are familiar with the Civil War Genaral series, which played at brigade level and was a fun series of games, but this one is at regimental level, so it has much more detailed maneuver and fire with multiple regiments making up each brigade. A truly great game.
