Why would he re-invent himself?

There is a possibility that the forum software won't let it happen... i don't know that i've seen anyone that has been successfully reinstated... perhaps it has happened, but i just don't know about it.

Also, if he decides to come back without asking for reinstatement, he could (maybe) by just getting a new screen name.

But IP addresses can be monitored and blocked - so it is possible to prevent banned persons from getting back on at least with the same IP address.

True - i think they booted the various incarnations of Lt. Calley off many times using that...

Nah he was tougher .. he was generating a new IP address for each incarnation ... he had to be killed one by one ... if the IP address is blocked the person can't see the server - can't get into the ball park ...

It happens to me in heavy rain too. I wish all the channels I like were available on cable. But then I suppose that the cable is vulnerable to idiotic workmen digging holes in the wrong place and would take longer to fix.

Death of a vodka bottle... ie - "dead soldier"...

i've read that when cleaning up after a party and there are some half-consumed containers of alcohol scattered about, some people like to consume them (all in a good cause of cleanliness) - such a practice is known as "bayonetting the wounded"

Afternoon to ya Knuckles - so what's up over at the Steakhouse today??
:<

A denial of service attack from a searchbot. The data base recorded a single IP address that generated tens of thousands of hits in the space of several minutes. We're working on it.

Not that it was a deliberate denial of service attack as far as I know, but there are these webcrawler thingys that visit and crawl through every page of a website. The damage report lists a visit by an "Unknown robot (identified by 'robot')" that generated 33725 hits on "26 Jun 2007 at 14:11" And sucked up 1.67 GB of bandwidth, which crashed the site.
The average bandwith used by MCS to serve the 1500 or so unique vistors every day is less than 600 MB, and the typical search bot such as google uses 10 MB or less.

This is just for the people that are really interested. Plus I got little else to do but wait for the server to reset itself, as I aint enough of a geek to figure out how to reset the "max query limit" manually.

As a network admin i would recomend you do that. I had mail gateways that keep getting taken down a number of years ago till i started setting max number of connections and other such fun stuff. Reboot fixes it for a day till they decide to come back.

What sort of Bot would be able to take up that bandwidth? Are the ones the FBI use that big? They caught one of our Directors with their anti-paedophile campaign and passed his details on to the UK Police. I think they paid the B*****d off rather than face the embarrassment.
