Welcome everyone to The Struggle Against Dixie AAR…
You will be constantly informed about anything we decide to be of any importance…
Since you all know the treacherous Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. No war declarations, no nothing. I still can’t figure it out how they managed to sail through the whole Pacific without being noticed. Taken by surprise we couldn’t really prepare the defence lines. The good news is that Lexington and Enterprise were away form the base, the bad news is that many of our BBs other ships are severely damaged.

PH

That hurt
BB Tennessee, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
BB Nevada, Bomb hits 13, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
BB Arizona, Bomb hits 8, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
BB California, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
BB West Virginia, Bomb hits 12, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
BB Pennsylvania, Bomb hits 11, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage

CL Honolulu, Bomb hits 1, Torpedo hits 1
AV Curtiss, Torpedo hits 1
MSW Turkey, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Nevada.

Pennsylvania

We also received information that Singapore was attacked by Japanese planes. Their target was Prince of Wales, one of two British BBs of which the so called Force Z compromises.
Almost 150 Bombers took part in the attack.

POW

BB Prince of Wales, Bomb hits 5, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
CL Mauritius, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Japanese forces landed near Kota Bharu. For now shooting takes place near the beachhead.

After naval bombardment and a short fight our forces had to surrender at Wake Island. This is a blow that we had not taken into consideration. That’s not all, Philippines were also invaded… Enemy forces disembarked at Vigan and Appari prior to these taking Batan Islands.
Another problem we have to face is the invasion of North Borneo with Kuching, Miri, Brunei being targets of the enemy. We must hold these bases in order not to lose control over the South China Sea.

Stay tuned for more...
We shall defend our girls at all cost and drive back the enemy where he belongs.

Aloha

Gents, we have a lot of bad news for you today.
First of all we lost Guam today, sad part is that we couldn't evacuate the famous Penguin due to the presence of a few Jap ships.
Next thing we have to worry about is the fall of Kuching and Miri on Borneo what complicates our operations in this region. Moreover the sighted earlier enemy TF near Tarakan Bombarded the base and ran away as fast as possible toward NE in the direction of Brunei probably in order to provide some protection for the ongoing landing operation.
Here's a brief outcome of the Jap Bombardment of Tarakan.

In the Philippines we lost Vigan and Aparri with the enemy continuing to unload his forces in the region. Clark Field is pounded from the air. Our ships evacuating from the region have been attacked by Jap submarines. No presence of enemy Surface TF's reported. Merchant shipping in the China Sea is being constatntly attacked by Japanese Airplanes.

In the Malaya our brave soldiers still hold ground in Kota Bharu. However if we are to lose the battle we have a small plan, also this is what we think of further Jap movements in the region.

Keep in mind that this are only predictions, any comment or feedback is welcome.

Another bad news is the fact that Rabaul got pounded from the sea by a Jap TF compromising of CLs and DDs. The Jap CVL that was present in the region probably sailed away and is now steaming North in order to intercept the fleeing merchants form PI.

Hmm now the news that can be consider optimistic for one day...
The Jap CV's apparently sailed S near PH in an attempt to catch our CVs... Our yankeeeee... commander decided to react to those Jap Carriers... Thanks God the weather was preety bad and no flights were possible. However if the Jap CV's are heading in the direction observed by our recon... one CV may be dust...

The CV's Captain...

Moreover so far no Jap subs have been spotted heading in the direction of West Coast. Almost all of the present in the Hawaii region subs are heading SW probably in order to block the shipping routes between the States and OZ.
That would be all for today...

Gents, we have bad news again...
The RAF and Dutch planes that were to escort the damaged Prince of Wales didn't show up and the Jap pilots had no problem with sinking the PoW.

This is a sad day for the RN.
Another problem is that the enemy located Nell Bombers in Kuching... so far we can't help it.

From the good news, mining operation in Pontianak can be considered a success, however we lost one of the Dutch MLs. Another operatiion of this type is in progress and targets our base in Balikapapan. The opposite side of the medal here is the fact that Brunei was captured by the Japs...

After two days of bombardment, Japs landed in Rabaul. So far they did not break through our lines but only time can tell if we are to hold ground.

That's not all gents... we lost Kota Bahru... today's attack forced our troops to fall back towards Kuala Lumpur, the enemy seems to be preaparing for an attack on Alor Star since they began to bomb the place.

We also lost two destroyers which were sunk by Jap CAs which, at least we think so, are to sink as many allied ships evacuating from the PI region as possible.

Last but not least we lost sight of the enemy carriers near PH and saved our CV's. ASW TFs were send in the SW direction in order to hunt enemy subs.
That's all for today.

I'm playing the same scenario using 2 day turns. We are in mid January '42. It will be interesting to see how your game is different than mine. If you haven't noticed yet, between the various Allied powers, you will get a handful of fast AP's (speed over 20 and large capacity). I have those from India/Aden heading down to Perth and then over to the WC. You get one Australian AP, Aquintia (I think I spelled it right), that has almost 11k capacity and speed of 23.    It can hold the whole 2nd USMC Division by itself.   But I would not risk it.

Also, the old Flush Deck DD's from stock are called Clemson class and upgrade on 1/41 to have their ASW go from 4 to 8. They will form powerful ASW killer groups. You have some of them in the PI/SRA at start, so be cautious in throwing them away. I lost 2 to mines. The rest are now in Sydney getting their upgrade. There are a few Wilkes Class that do the same. They may have short legs, but they will keep the WC and Pearl clear of those pesky subs.

If you haven't done so already, the American Hudsons make good ASW searchers until you get enough PBY's.

Great a visitor
I have to start reading your AAR to compare
Thanks for all the hints and tips... I'm not really familiar with CHS yet so all the info is appreciated.
Anyways I have all the Clemsons on ASW duty near PH more to the S on course to Canton since Dixies subs went that way... some nice hits were made by Dauntless pilots from CVs I think they scored 5 hites during one day.

I just heard the following radio broadcast on another channel (AAR) :

quote:

ORIGINAL: Tokyo Radio
The mighty HMS Prince of Wales, pride of the Royal Navy's Far East Fleet has been sunk by the brave airmen of the Imperial Japanese Navy.  The brave ship was attempting to flee from the combat zone around Singapore with her tail between her legs like a frightened puppy.
The ship, and her escort, were all destroyed in less than an hour after our brave aircrews located and attacked the British fleet in the early afternoon of the 10th December.  Surely you Commonwealth troops must now see that defeat is inevitable and you should surrender now, it is the only way to save your lives.

Gents, our raid on Kuching came as a surprise to the enemy, sadly the forces that have taken part in it were too small to cause big damage... but the psychological impact is what we needed... we are going to show those troublemakers in Japan that we still can bite.
Two japanese destroyers have been seriously damaged by our fleet and later Kuching got bombed causing chaos in the japanese ranks. However after the attack Repulse one of the ships that took part in the Raid was attacked by Jap planes and was hit by a torpedoe... The damage is light and air cover has been arranged for the returning TF.

HMS Repulse

The Fleets Encounter...

Sadly our Destroyers that were send to fight the landing force in Brunei were a bit late and the enemy managed to run away in a coward like fashion sinking one of the DDs by planes.

Hong Kong and Rabaul, the places where battles rage between our and Jap forces, are still in our hands.

CA raider TFs were send in the direction of Tarawa.

Last but not least KB sighted NW of Johnston Island.

Gents, as usuall the news aren't great... The enemy has total air superiority over the PI region and the situation is getting worse. We lost Puerto Princesa today and spotted a big convoy of transports moving SW in the direction of Sandakan on the eastern coast of Borneo however we still can't say if this is the target. CA Houston and CL Boise were send to intercept. We also evacuated most of our air units to China.

Due to the fall of Tarawa and Nauru Island we came up with a small plan to send two CAs that were in the area in order to slow the Japs for a while. It may seem to be insignificant but believe me we have to bite for now as much as we can.

Gents, our little interception plan came into life and we managed catch the Jap Force at Tarawa. CA Louisville managed to sink one of the enemy Destroyers and damage the other Japanese ships.

So far so good.

We are expecting another clash tommorow in the PI region where a TF compromising of CA Houston and CL Boise are on a course to intercept Japanese transports which are heading for a)Sandakan b)Tarakan c)Manado d)Iolo one of the options. Following the CA Houston TF is another TF lead by CL Marblehead and 5 destroyers.
More news form the PI...
Laogag was captured by the enemy. Clark Field and Manila are being targets of heavy air rides.

Also Malaya is a region of some heavy air traffic. I would recomend to take the interstate 65 through Georgetown since Alor Star just gor captured by the Japs

However our pilots managed to hit a few Jap transports in the China Sea and speaking of China... the enemy is bombing Hengchow.

Frankly... stupid idea but on the route to OZ and I will try to hold him at Java shipping supplies from the north if possible to do this I have to hold India at least at the line of Diamond Harbour and mass some planes on the Island... holding the east coast of Australia with the route to PM secured... however to do this that damn route from WC to OZ must be in my hands and for now I have to gain time and try to build up defenses over there... is going to be hard but maybe we shall make it... time will tell...

Nice moves Yava...the raid on Kuching and the intercept with the Louisville...as you say, not a lot of damage, but psycologically it should make Dixie think about escorting his ships better and if he does he will have less to attack with.

Thanks niceguy
Frankly I hope will think about excorting his transports, as you say it will make his offensive capabilities a bit limited.
And the Tarawa thing was planned, since the Jap players in most cases thinks there won't be any trouble with getting The Gilbert Islands and sends a SNFL or some NavGD to deal with it on Fast Transports... if these are destroyed or damaged... Dixie should be a bit of the schedule with his expansion...

That's what I am trying to do.. what worries me is the COMPLETE lack of ANY Jap CV's... after the PH attack one of his CVL's bombed Rabaul and that's it... I think that he's hiding them somewhere E of PI waiting for the KB return to organize a small tour of two CV groups... from the N of Borneo a small TF... just like a shepherd's dog... and from the S of Borneo the trap with the complete destruction of the ABDA forces and few fast one after another invasions...
That is why I have to prepare Java for the upcoming (possible) battle... Beauforts are needed along with subs patroling the region and supply, supply, supply, not to mention the brave Australian forces from the W of OZ...
