I selected scenarfio 16 Yamato's Prophesy. Also I made Allied and Jap replacements Variable and I set US commitment to 100% and Jap commitment to 140 %. Finally, I saved it in slot number 16 so it coincides with the scenario number.

Hope I did the update correctly. The options screen says version 2.5 after I uninstalled and re-installed game due to an initial error message.

My Opponent is Wissooner. I am the Japanese player.

Much of this will be after the fact, by at least a week, to preserve tactical information from falling into the hands of the enemy. Likewise, Strategic plans will not be revealed unless much water has flowed under that bridge.

Thus I begin this AAR in a fictionalized style of Yamamoto's journal entries.

By the way -- my Windoze Vista program will NOT allow me to make snapshots of the game.

1 June 1942

Early morning staff call with my subordinate commanders from Combined Fleet, 8th Army, 11th Air HQ, 17th HQ, and South Seas Detachment. There are many complaints and arguements. They are not yet a team of professionals with one mind. My first orders must unite them in spirit and duty. Thus, I have issued the following Gerneral Orders:

1. All air crews will stand down when fatigue eraches 50%, moral drops below 50%, during thunderstorms and rain. Operational losses must be kept to a minimum. Night raids are authorized on clear nights. Any other type weather night missions must have MY approval alone.
2. Ground forces must rest after they reach a fatigue level of 75% or greater before continueing their march to an objective. Better to have a fresh fighting force than a tired rabble.
3. All Sub Chasers, Gun Boats, Submarines, Mine warfare vessels, and transports must put in for repairs at the nearest appropriate base (Level 3 or above). Likewise combat vessels that have reached system damage equal to 50% of the total number of weapon mounts must split off from their combat task force and put in for repairs immediately. Transports and supply missions must complete their missions first.
4. Task forces with 5 or more ships will be commanded by a Rear Admiral and 10 or more ships a Vice Admiral.
5. Every effort will be made to sink enemy submarines on sight without exception.

Failure to comply with my orders will be dealt with harshly!

I haven't noticed anything different about 2.5 yet, have you? Except, of course, that Windoze Vista doesn't like it!
Guess I'm getting senile (CRS at least)!

STAFF CALL 2 June 1942

Gentlemen,
Let us begin this campaign with a vigorous mine warfare operation. Every submarine reporting in at TRUK will arm themselves with mines for their First mission. After they deploy the Mines they may revertt back to regular Sub patrol for the remainder of their tour of duty. The only exception shal be RO-34 which shall be on permenant Sub Minelaying Ops. Any questions? Good! Then we are of one mind in this task and quickly becoming a team spirit. Remember Gentleman, the word TEAM means... Together Each of us Achieves More.
Now let us retire to the map room - I want a full report from each of you.

Interesting choice of scenario. I believe this scenario is tougher for the Japs to win�

If I understood the conditions of this scenario correctly, My job is to capture port Morsbey while holding onto Guadalcanal.

Your's is just the opposite, hold onto Port Morsbey and capture Guadalcanal.

Is that a fair assessment?

Greenling needs a new type of torpedo - why don't you send it back to Pearl?

If my estimate is correct, Greenling should have about 2 bullets left in its gun.

Where'd all your planes go? Port Morsbey is starting to look like a ghost town!

I can hardly believe that our PCs are actually scoring hits on enemy subs. MATRIX must have tweaked their capability on last update.

Oops... looks like Greenling got lucky with her last torpedo. The ship she hit was carrying the Japanese 3d Coastal Gun Battery. Sir, 11 2d line troops and one 3" gun fell off the deck into the Solomon Sea.

Hmmm.... Ya know what they say about pay-backs, don't ya?

Resting quietly contemplating recent events a knock resonds softly on his door.

'Yes come in' he commands but remains reclined on his bunk shielding his eyes from the overhead lamp.

An orderly enters with several messages in hand, bows respectfuly, 'Intelligence reports, Sir.'

'What do they say?' he asks softly.

'American recon planes scouting Lunga. Also the combat force spotted yesterday has moved. Intelligence thinks it went back to Luganville to link up with some mine-sweepers.'

Thank you. The orderly bows leaving quietly.

4 July 1942

Yamamoto sat in his stator room enjoying the lunch prepared for him. His flag ship was fortunate to have an excellent cook.

Hearing a commotion outside his door he looked up and noticed his door start to open, then it closed followed by a sharp rap on the door.

"Come" he responded irritated by the interruption.

The orderly marched in and bowed sharply extending his hand with a message. Action report, Sir. Yamamoto noticed the orderly's hand shaking. He slid his plate aside and took the message. The airbase at Port Moresby has reactivated and attacked two convoys. "Tell my staff there will be a meeting in 20 minutes" he said angrily.

5 July 1942

Yamamoto seated at his perch in the control room watched thoughtfully as repair crews surveyed the damage. "How can I hold my subordinates accountable for ship losses when my own Flag ship has struck an enemy mine?" he thought to himself.

His orderly comes in from the radio room, message from da enemy, Sir.

Looks like I dodged a bullet at Luganville�

Hmmmm... yes, but I didn't. I Zigged when I should have Zagged. You whacked a few of my convoy ships.

I can see that I need to close that PM airfield again.

As for Luganville -- we'll be back! Only next time we'll sweep the harbor for mines 1st.

STAFF CALL:

Sir, Greenling was sighted again. It fired a torpedo but missed. "MmmmHmmm... increase the bounty on Greenling to ~10,000 Yen."

Port Morseby was bombed. Several enemy aircraft were damaged on the runway.

Our port at LAE was attacked and 3 ships were hit. Finschafen HQ port was also attacked and the base Commander is

that there was no air cover. Two ships were hit.

Buna was attacked by enemy aircraft too. Again 2 ships were hit and there was no air cover.

"Tell the Air Commander to report to me immediately."

Gentlemen, the enemy coast watchers are feeding too much information to the enemy about our movements.

2d Imperial Order:

Hunt down the coast watchers and shoot them. Do not destroy their commo equipment. Instead, turn it over to IJN Intelligence.

Additionally, each of you review your enlisted ranks for soldiers that are fluent in English. Transfer them to IJN Intelligence. Officers are exempt, for the moment.

Sir, the HEI battleship group was attacked by carrier based aircraft near Luganville.
Intelligence believes two enemy CV were involved at Grid 51-56. Our ships survived heavy air attack without air cover of our own. The group commander, however, is

"NAGUMO San, where were you?" Oh, I waz a jest hang'n around follow'n yer orderz, Sir.

"NAGUMO San, Anatawa Okii Yotsume Tobeda, DAMADE"

11 July 1942 STAFF CALL:

The SS TAUTOG was sighted on the surface attacking one of our troop carriers at Grid 21-29. All available anti-sub assets are being marshalled to that location.

Also S39 attacked inside our port at LAE.

Port Morseby airfield has been reduced 14% according to latest BDA report. One Hudson bomber was reported destroyed on the runway.

Since commensment of hostilities on 1 June 1942 we have sunk 6 Allied ships.

A barge network is being setup to ensure flow of supplies.

No word yet on identity of the two US Carriers that struck the HIEI.

12 July 1942

Sir, S42 fired at another one of our transports. Same location as before.

"Mmmm Hmmmm Kill it."

Yes sir, also the preveous transport sank 60 miles East of Rabaul. The survivors will need to be picked up. They're on a deserted beach having a cookout.

A cookout? What was in the cargo hold of that ship? SAKE, sir....

13 July 1942 STAFF CALL:

Sir, Kaito Maru was hit the other night with a 21" Mk10 Torpedo. While trying to return to Rabaul she ran aground and sank.

There were no survivors.

Port Morseby BDA indicates the airfield is down 30%. Air raids on shipping have stopped (for the moment).

16 July 1942 STAFF CALL:

Sir, grave news; the battleship Hiei was making her way towards port without difficulty, however, last night an explosion was heard by her escorting ships. It is uncertain what caused the explosion. The Hiei went down in shallow water. One theory is that a mine broke away from its mooring and drifted into the sea lane. An investigation is underway to determine the cause.

Also, Greenling was spotted again at grid 17-42. It fired one torpedo but missed. It baffles us as to why the Allies haven't canned that commander yet. Whoever he is, he can't hit the broad side of a pagoda from the inside!

"MMmmmmhm... I withdraw the reward offered for the Greenling. I also want some eyes on this spot in the Coral Sea... what is that unidentified marker? " Yes Sir.

17 July 1942 STAFF CALL:

Yamamoto seated at the end of the table surveys his staff officers. He whispers an order to his orderly. The orderly leaves the room.

"I understand that GREENLING returned again last night and fired two torpedos inside the port at Gili-Gili. Fortunately again it missed its target, twice."

The staff officers look at each other embarrassed wondering who should speak.

The orderly returns witrh a tray of hot sake (rice wine) in cerimonial shot cups. He places one before each officer and pours the wine.

Yamamoto raises his cup "a toast gentlemen, to the GREENLING -- may her aim never improve COMPAII." The officers begin to laugh and shout COMPAII downing their drinks.

18 July 1942 STAFF CALL

Sir, a new submarine menace has appeared at grid 21-29. It has been identified as the Grenadier.

Good news, NEVEA has been captured without resistance.

Also, there was a B-17 attacked one of our submarines near Australia. The submarine escaped.

19 July 1942

Yamamoto paced the deck of his flag ship observing the repair work. An orderly ran up and saluted while extending a message. Action Report, Sir.

Yamamoto took the message and read it quietly.

Air raid at NEVEA. Intel believes planes came from at least two enemy carriers at grid 55-48.

DD Yugiri 8 bomb hits - sunk
AP Koe Maru 11 bomb hits - sunk
AP Naniwa 3 bomb hits - crippled.

Thinking to himself -- this brings the list of ships sunk to 26. The Emperor is not pleased. Possibility of release of more ships to my command is LOW.

"Inform Admiral Nogumo" the orderly saluted and left.

Sir, I-5 reports an enemy convoy at 55-49. "Composition?" Daaa,I donno --

Sir, I'm happy to report that depth charges were dropped on the GRENADIER. "Did any of them hit it?" Daaa, I donnooo --

Sir, our meatball flag was raised over our new base at SALAMAUA. "Meatball flag? SALAM -- what? Orderly, take this idiot out and shoot him!"

"Now, I have some news -- I have assigned Vice Admiral Takasu to oversee the anti-sub ops. You all know his reputation for aggression."

21 July 1942 STAFF CALL:

VADM Takasu informs me that he has begun his hunt for the GRENADIER.

An enemy sub-chaser #645 was sunk this morning when it struck one of our mines.

VADM Nagumo is not happy with his flag ship and has asked for a transfer. I will grant his request when he returns to port.

22 July 1942 DAILY STAFF CALL:

Sir, SS TAUTOG surfaced at Gili-Gili and sank one of our barges (#107) with its deck gun.

"MmmmHmmm do we have any coastal artillery at Gili-Gili?" I don't think so, Sir, that type of gun is not organic to the 65th Brigade's composition.

NEVEA was shelled last night by an enemy surface group. There's nothing there yet so no serious damage.

SS-42 was sighted at BUNA.

AP Naniwa sank in deep water N.E. of Irau.

"Hmmmm... alert Nagumo to prepare for action with the weather clearing up."

23 July 1942 Daily Staff Call:

Sir, Good news -- the TAUTOG fired two torpedos inside Gili-Gili harbor and missed. It made the mistake of firing on two of our Destroyers. They retaliated and believe they hit the sub with a depth charge. A massive explosion was heard. They think it is severly damaged but not sunk.

Last night's BDA on PM estimates a dozen British soldiers killed in the raid.

Now for the bad news, Sir, a massive Allied air raid on NEVEA killed 80 of our
troops. Reports indicate 66 level bombers struck the island from Luganville.

Ummm... Sir, Bombers from Luganville struck at Nevea again this morning. The commander reports 130 casulaties.

They also hit Irau but RUFF chased them off -- no casualties.

"Mmmm... Issue citations to the RUFF pilots under my signature."

Sir, shore batteries are being transported to Gili-Gili and Woodlark.

"Good -- there will be no more submarines surfacing inside the ports and taking pot shots at our barges."

Sir... Da enemy iz a tacking all along da front. "What front"? EVERYWHERE, sir.

* S-37 was sighted at 36-38 in the SLOT.

* S-38 attacked a DD and an AP at grid 21-29. The AP took 3 fish and sank.

* An enemy surface group attacked Gili-Gili last night and hit one of our ships in port. There was also 2 KIA reported.

* NEVEA was bombed again BDA = 34 casualties and some mortar batteries destroyed. One of our CVs was sighted by an enemy scout plane during the raid.

* Irau was also bombed but once again RUFF chased the bombers away.

* We bombed Cooktown airfield BDA = 7 hits.

* We also hit Luganville airfield, BDA = 3 hits with two Mitchell Bombers destroyed on the runway.

* Two of our Destroyers hit Port Morseby = minor damage to the port.

Sir, our air crews are showing signs of stress. They need a rest.
