Just discovered an interesting turn based fantasy game with deep strategy called Armageddon Empires. You control one of 4 factions and fight over a post apocalyptic world. It combines many great features of turn based fantasy games and collectible card games but without the need to buy additional cards. Has a nice board war gaming feel. I'm really excited about this game and think you will be as well if you try the demo:

I almost bought it before i tried the demo...the UI is just unbearable. This is a game you should be able to play without much reading, i couldn't even play turn 1. I never did figure out how to move a card, i gave up after 30 minutes of trying to figure out how to place my cards, then...after finally placing 1 (why?) i couldn't move it and deduced that if just the simple stuff was like this...delete

Should have tried harder.. its good.
A bit long for each game and bug script errors.. but it is different and enjoyable.
You MUST  read the manual which is on the demo download play , + some trial and error to get going.

Any way I bought it.

Yeah, that's what i thought to myself. I may read the manual if Civ 4 Beyond The Sword doesn't show up first...tick...tick...tick...

Yeah because Civ4 is so original and fantastic.

There is a patch out today ..
this is good as it seems to addresses some of the Ui problems.
+ the develpoers have responded to my emails already { about 2hrs after sent.}

Now thats service.

As someone who was looking for a lighter game than FOF and Civil War I am very pleased with it.

I tried the demo, I like the concept but didnt care for the setting too much.  They should use this engine to develop a 4X space strategy game I think that will be very cool.

I tried the demo and thought it was a fun concept to make a computer based card driven board game. I like the postapocalyptic setting well enough. I would actually get it, but the lack of MP totally turns me off (the whole concept of the game seems to scream PBEM).

I don't know.. we do rather have 4X space strategy games coming out of our ears. Matrix even publish a CCG one. At least the setting, while not exactly original, is rather less common.

I tried the demo. Not bad, but like Sytass I am totally baffled why they left MP out.

Yea your probably right, I remeber playing the Star Trek Customizable Card Game and was thinking in that direction.  The demo at least to me was hard I couldn't even get a Turn 1 into the game.

Yeah, I had the same thought at first, and more in-game help would be useful. Then I read the manual some. I've been slowly exploring the game features in the demo and figuring out what I can, then reading the manual some more, and back and forth over the past couple of evenings. I've never been a card driven game player, but this game has caught my interest. There's definitely an addictive element involved.

If you like Panzer General and/or Battle Isle series, this game might be worth to play with. I like this one better than CM:SF
But then, I'm not that much into earlier Combat Missions: camera controls aren't handy enough and... I cut it here
