As Japan, I set my transport TF to load oil/res at a captured port, say Tarakan. I set the DH to (say) Nagasaki, and go for Patrol/do not retire. For the home port I set Tarakan.
Even though there are about 20000 each of oil and resources, my TF TENDS to run off after just ONE TURN of loading stuff (with just 800 oil and res aboard).

Anyone else have this problem?

Instead of setting DH and home port, click to load oil/resources and then "do not unload." That way it will just load up. Then you can do what you did after the ships are full.

The way you have it, the AI thinks its destination is Nagasaki and leaves immediately.

Weird thing is, sometimes it does stay a few turns and keeps loading... on other turns, it just sails after one turn.

OK, so if I'm at Tarakan, I'll set DH and home port as Tarakan, click the load oil and then "do not unload". Is this right?

Thanks!

This is correct. Just check every turn to make sure it has not stopped loading. Sometimes, if their is a shortage of Res/oil, the transport will stop loading. If "Unload cargo" is allowed it will actually start to unload what it has already loaded. At least with "Do not unload" it will just stop loading rather than start unloading

If you load up all the oil or resources at the base, the ship leaves regardless of how full it is. This is what I suspect is happening.

RUPD: Thanks

YH: Nope, the bases in question usually have > 20000 of oil, and the tankers leave with just 800 (on each ship) loaded. So if I use 5 tankers, that's just 4000 oil loaded in one turn and the TF is headed back to Japan.

5 tankers x capacity > remaining oil = go home I assume. Try putting them 5 tankers in individual TFs and see if the problem persists.

Rybeck, what patch level do you have installed.  1.806 corrected a problem where load orders of a TF were cleared if another TF was disbanded at the same port.  I had a lot of trouble with this, and it's almost never a problem any more with 1.806.

YH, Will try when I can.

USS America, I have 1.806 installed. It's not so much a clearance of load orders, but the TF only loads oil/res for ONE TURN and then it sails to the DH, leaving behind plenty of oil/res at the base.

This is an old bug, present since 1.21, iirc. i would keep the loading port as the destination until the ship/tf is full enough for you, then you can set the actual destination.

Good tip, this was also suggested above by ny59giants. I'll do just that, thanks for all the input fellas!

I cannot confirm that. I'm playing jap 1.806 and never had such problems.

Say if there are 20'000 oil and 20'000 ressources in port and I have a TF with a capacity of 25'000 (tanker) and 25'000 (cargo) it will load up until there's no more oil and ressouorces in port. Only then it leaves the port for its destination.
I usually set my ressource/oil transports homeport to where it loads up (Balikpapan, Tarakan, Palembang, Toboali or wherever and then press the load **** button. Then I set the DH (Osaka, Tokyo, Nagasaki, Kitakyushu or whereever). Never had that problem.

Do you always have this problem in the same port or di you try different locations? Does this happen only with oil/ressources or with supplies/fuel also?

No, I have to admit, the only time I noticed ships heading off when loading resources / oil and not be fully loaded is when the port ran dry. Im just tossing out ideas (this is what we do to try to break the game to find the bugs to fix).

There IS a rule that states you can only load 10% of "stuff" per turn*... make sure you are not exceeding that. In the past, my tankers would stop loading oil at Palembang after a few hundred tons even though there were 100K+ tons ... i assume you are encountering the same bug, but check to make sure you are not trying to load >10% per turn.

(iirc - i'd have to recheck to rule-book, which is not handy at the moment).

Bob, I think that rule only applies to fuel and supplies, and then only if the level is below 10k at the base.....I've not yet had any problems completely cleaning out the oil and resources at a port.

Found it - rule under 14.1:

"Ships are limited to loading 10% of the supplies at a base if the base has less than 30,000 supplies present or its current supply level is less than four times its supply needs."

Since i've had lots of problems with loading oil, i thought maybe it had similar restrictions but apparently it does not.

It kept happening to me after 1.80.

Then, after 1.806, it stopped completely.

I still have that problem pop up occasionally with 1.806. Just get in the habit of checking every TF every turn and you can usually catch it. Setting all the cargo/tanker convoys to "do not unload" helps tremendously too.

Never seen this rule working in my game. As jap I had the usual supply shortage through the first year where I sometimes had to move a lot of supplies from my meager supply hub at the Shortlands (i.e.) to various islet outposts. Say I had 20000 supplies at Shortland I could easily load 10000 for Lunga (i.e.) without a problem. I played 1.6x and now play 1.806.

Tom, that rule applies to individual ships, not task forces.  20k supply at a port would allow up to 2k per ship to be loaded.  (Depends on the size of the port of course)  The largest ports in the game are size 10, which have the capacity to load 2000 supply points each day for each ship.  At smaller ports, you would be looking at 1800, 1600, 1400, 1200 or less attempting to load.  It's likely you would not notice the limitation until the base supply total dropped much lower.

BTW, I seem to notice the same type of impact on loading fuel onto ships from a base, if the base is at a low fuel level.  I'm trying to evacuate some of the fuel at DEI bases before they are captured by the Japanese, and each day less and less fuel is loaded aboard my ships.
