What should I do about individual commanders leading more than one unit, or units that have either no leader or a foreign one? Obviously I could replace them using political points, but that's expensive in that I have more than 20 instances of the above.

Is there any evidence that this causes problems of any kind?

Clones...

Keep the good ones, and replace the others.

This bug has been around for awhile.
Various patches have toned it down.
Used to be a lot worse.

At least one leader is actually cloned by design (MacArthur).

The only problem i see is that you might have a problem getting rid of someone you don't want around...

That's what PP's are for.

Yeah, but if you are short on PPs for one reason or another, it can be a problem...

And would anyone like to guess what happens if you have a sub commander who is commanding two or more subs and one of them sinks? Do all of the commanders disappear? Will he be available for another command? Does some foreign commander take over all of the surviving subs? Who knows?

Bumping this forward because I just discovered why this was happening to me.

I guess this was common knowledge to every one except me, but every time you form a new Task Force from an existing one, and you transfer the Flag to the new one, the Commander is respawed/doubled and ends up leading the two Task Forces. I guess this isn't a problem unless the Commander sucks to begin with, and/or you disband at least one of the TFs at some point.

I'm not looking for any comments, just thought I'd share how I discovered one of WitP's little quirks.

A little OT, but I'm still finding Japanese Colonels commanding USN ships....I hope I'm not cloning them by mistake.

All of the instances of that commander disappear. That's one way, at least, a unit can wind up with no one commanding it.
