Hi there,

Which squadron(s) uprades to the G5N Liz in CHS? I have PDU on, but can't see any squadrons that can utilize my heavy bombers.

I am not sure of the units designations but they start in Takeo and are originally Betty squadrons. There are two of them but in a perviously posted question once one of them is converted you can convert any Betty squadron. I have not done this so am not positive this is possible.

In technical code terms, once the aircraft is available, you should generally be able to upgrade any land bomber of the same service to that aircraft type. If the aircraft is associated with a naval unit, then any JNAF unit should be able to get it. This assumes there is some production taking place. Sometimes OTHER service units ALSO can upgrade to the aircraft. You can make that happen if you specify the type as an upgrade for the unit or the aircraft of another service. But sometimes code allows it for reasons known only to itself, reasons Matrix says should not happen. Rarely the enemy will see the upgrade as an option - but never be able to implement it - usually on just one unit - again for reasons no one understands. The base case is - see if the type lists as an option for a unit: it will do that even before any are made.
IF it is on the list for the unit, it can upgrade.

cool, I found the Daitai, hiding in Amboina, where it have atually had minimal success so far, as it seems the allies have escaped their shipping. Anyway, thanks for the replies.

On another note, what use may I find of the G5N? IIRC, the G5N project was scrapped by the Japanese. Now I have a Sentai flying the big thing, and a factory able to churn out more aircrafts if needed. Did I make a mistake investing in this aircraft, were the Japanese leadership correct in not producing the G5N? If you do use it, for what purpose?

The G5N1 of CHS was not built in numbers because it was underpowered and a dog.

The plane was converted to the G5N2-L transport - and successful in that role - but still not built in numbers. This form of the plane is in all RHS scenarios.

Other versions of the plane were studied. In RHSEOS only you can have a version with the same engines as Sally II - and it is a reasonable bomber. Imagine a Helen (same range) with more durability (more engines), more defensive firepower and more offensive punch (bombs). Later in the war, in RHSEOS, you can have a still more up engined version, and it is fitted with anti-shipping missiles. But note it lacks the long range of a Nell or Betty - or even a Ki-67.

Originally we used a licenced form of the Me-264 in RHSEOS - but Nemo found it could not be fed (too many supply points). He requested we replace it with the G5N. Yet another option was the Condor. Licenced to Japan IRL, it was quite similar to the G5N - based on a civil transport - of moderate performance - with a small load by Allied standards. It would be somewhat worse than a G5N3 if used. Also, later versions would be able to use anti-ship missiles.
