Status: offline 		I'm relatively new here, so I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm curious as to who is current/former military, what contry's military you were in, how long and where you served, and what job you did in the military. This is simply just out of curiosity, that's all.

I'll start:

1). U.S. Army Military Police
2). January 1986 to January 1994 (8 years)
3). Stationed in:
A). F-12, Fort McClellan, Alabama (Basic and Military Police training, January to May 1986)
B). 260th Military Police Company (Physical Security), Camp Carroll, Waegwan, South Korea (June 1986 to June 1987)
C). 1st Military Police Company, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas (July 1987 to April 1990)
D). 294th Military Police Company (Customs), 42nd Military Police Group, Mainz, Germany (April 1990 to April 1992)
E). 212th Military Police Company, 18th Military Police Brigade, Kitzingen, Germany (April 1992 to January 1994)

76-79 USS Kirk Homeported out of Japan, saw most of the Pacific including Perth, Australia, Hong King, SIngapore, Phillipines, etc.
79-80 Sonar Electroncs school
80-82 USS Paul Homeported out of Jacksonvillle, Florida. Saw Bermuda, Spain, Ffance, Yugoslovia and a number of other Atlantic/Med countries.

Status: offline 		I'm another STG(Sonar technician -surface)Made it to E4(STG3). 1978-82. USS Roark (1/79-6/80), San Diego. I went on 1 Southpac in '79. I saw the Samoas, Vila, Fiji, Wellington, Timaruu, Sydney, Newcastle, Hobart, Freemantle, Headland, Singapore, Phattaya, Subic, Guam, Midway, and of course Pearl. Had a great time, though I fractured my spinal column while riding in the back of a pickup in Thailand(it flipped into a gully).

Tachikawa AFB, Japan, 1953-54
Eglin again, 1955-1957
Ramstein AFB, West Germany, 1958-1960
Semore-Johnson AFB, NC, 1961-1963
Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, 1968-1969

It always concerns me, when playing my "Next War 1979" scenario, to see how often and thoroughly Ramstein AFB gets nuked.

My Father was a mechanic in the 4th Fighter Group (composed of the former Eagle Squadrons), based in Debden, England, during WWII.

And, for that matter, my Great-Great-Grandfather was in the 17th LA Regiment at Shiloh, where he had his head blown off (his headless corpse was identified by his watch).

Another one was at Fort Donaldson, wounded then paroled, captured and paroled again at Port Hudson, then finally wounded while in Stephen D. Lee's staff at Ezera Church (Atlanta). The bullet bounced off his forehead and plowed a furrow through his scalp - he woke up to hear General Lee declare him dead (he lived, with a unique hair style).

And at least one Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was at Yorktown.

I've seen worse, and work with worse.... ever seen anything more conpulsive than money guys, and squabbling over a darned penny...?

Daily event in my shop - thank goodness I work in IT and don't have that kind of 'pressure'...

Status: offline 		My dad was in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict but didn't go over there. Myself:

I enlisted in the USAF in Nov. of 1968 to avoid the draft and :

did basic training at San Antonio, TX.

Then went to Lowell AFB in Denver for advanced weapons mechanic training.

Then I went to Luke AFB in 1969 to work on the A-7D aircraft.

Then I volunteered to go to Vietnam in 1970 and they sent me to Bien Hoa where I spent a year ( nov. 1970 - nov. 1971 ) loading munitions on all kinds of planes: O-1, O-2, A-37, OV-10

Then I got sent to Hurlburt field in Florida where I worked on A-1, T-28, and OV-10 planes for about 9 months. Then I volunteered for Palace Gun and was picked to fly on AC-130 planes.

After training briefly I went to ( I think ) Moody AFB for parachute training,

then McDill AFB for water survival training ( how to use the rubber raft ),

Then ( I can't remember the name of the AFB in Washington state ) near the Idaho border but I went there for the POW survival training class of August 1972

Then I went to Clark AFB, Manila Phillippines for jungle survival ( what to eat, where to hide, etc. )

Then I spent a year at Ubon, Thailand flying AC-130 missions as a gunner every other night up and down the Ho Chi Minh trail looking to shoot trucks, bicycles, individuals, elelphants....whatever can convey equipment. This was from August 1972 to Aug 1973.

Then I got sent to Williams AFB, Gilbert Az. and spent the rest of my time there. got discharged in August (? ) 1974 and enrolled in the university of Arizona the very next day.

I may have forgotten a school for some quick training here and there but these are most of the biggees. Discharged as an E-5 with lots of Air Medals, oak leaf clusters, misc. ribbons, etc.

Lots of medals (most of which are currently residing in a drawer next to the scissors).

Every designer should have a scenario where his ancestors can get wiped out.

My most impressive military connection is that my neighbour is a retired Brigadier. Apart from that there's my Grandfather, who was a Captain in the RTR, serving in northwest Africa and northern Europe. Promoted to Major on discharge, mentioned in dispatches.

Thought about military service myself. I can certainly see the advantages. In the end I had too many things keeping me here in London.

No military career here, too. As regards history, both my grandfathers fought in Russia. One was wounded when a grazing shot blew off his right ear, the other one served as a medic and was severely wounded when an artillery shell hit his car, killing his comrade who drove the car (they had changed their seats just minutes before..). Basically that's all i know - they didn't tell much about the war and i don't know in which units they served.
My grand-uncle participated in the battle for France, 1940, i've got some interesting photos (actually i only know that he was there from the photos..- later he also fought in Russia). Maybe i can post some of them the coming days if someone is interested.

When I was in Hannover on big fair with my father (mostly technical stuff), on a way back to town I let my seat to some elderly gentleman and he told me that I am kind and he told us that he fought on Narva in 1943. or 44. There was very heavy fighting.

My grandmother on my fathers side was a doctor in an insane asylum in Århus, Denmark. She claimed that in the end of 1944, when all civil order had collapsed in Denmark and there was a de facto civil war. Both the resistence and the collerabatist where sending people into hiding as insane people in the Asylum. Since there where both pro allied and pro axis doctors who could admit them into the asylum. Funny thought, two people acting insane in the same place, in order not to get shot by the other side.

S-4, 1/40 Armor
Then 8 years in the reserve (IRR)

While in Germany I also was lucky enough (if you want to call it that) to act as a forward observer when the squadron's self-propelled howiter battery (M109A1) went to Grafenwoehr to fire.  (One of the battery commanders I served with was Tommy Franks, then a captain, and really good commander.)
