Hi Cap and Gown, long time .

PzB - shame on the sara would have been interesting for her to succumb to jap sub attack in 45. Also that shinden movie i have never seen before. That undercarrige looks like its begging to snap in a light breeze however .

In game it'll be interesting to see how you can hold off those reds with the kwantung army in the home islands(slight design flaw there imo) (whats your PP status ?)

Hm, if sweeps only goes in first from the base which launches bombers sweeps are impossible to conduct
if you plan huge multiple base strikes... Sweeps SHOULD go in before any bombers if you ask me. Possible fix?

Indeed, the undercarriage looks frail, but the only problems encountered during test flights was high left torque
and vibrations in the aft propellor shaft. Problems with the rear propeller touching the ground was rectified by adding
2 small tail wheels on the tail. A total of some 170 Shindens were ordered into production in August 1945 and the first
ones were 90% completed by the end of the armistance. Another 6 months would probably have been needed to correct teething
problems.

-------------------------------------------------------
NEWSFLASH!!!

Suddenly 129 B-29s arrived over Yanam - a tiny size 1 port and af east of Madras and west of Diamond Harbour.
Enemy carriers and transports were also spotted just nearby.

Andy didn't waste time.

An attack by enemy glider troops were repulsed by the Base Force Garrison that had 40 SNLF squads.
Forts were lowered from 9 to 8.
--------------------------------------------------------

In the Central Pacific enemy carriers chickens out and leaves huge enemy convoys without protection,
35!!! different transport ships are hit.

oh, would like to come to Imperial dinner, but both of us have full hands, it seems... great strike on enemy transports!

It's funny to see old Getrude Kelogg back into action - this ship never survived first couple of months in all games i've ever seen - until now.

Well, i'm certain thay you will put a good fight in India, and that is a better choice for you!

In Luzon we will continue to snip at enemy LCU and attack enemy shipping moving out from Luzon.
There are now more than 1500 AP in Clark Field and 9 forts. Also building a reserve force in Manila.

In Kwantung I'm trying to defend 4-5 major bases or choke points. The plan is to have Shindens and Reppus here
to prevent enemy air from disrupting our LCU. In return we will be able to pound enemy LCU. With 1500 AP in these
bases Andy will need a lot of firepower to reduce forts. I'm especially planning to defend Harbin - with 200 Shindens
being produced here I would hate to loose it.

Yesterday I released 2 Kwantung formations from the Home Islands; 1 Bde and 1 Inf Div. Cost me 350 PP in total
Instead of sending them to China they go to Formosa and Bonins. They will build slowly and I need to reinforce the Inner Perimeter.
Still got 450 PP left and is planning to release more cadre size Kwantung units and send to...Kwantung

It's indeed a nasty bug that Kwantung Area Units are stuck in the Home Islands at such a critical stage of the war.
Can't really afford to pay PP to release units for anywere but the Inner Perimeter.

We will have Victory dinner in Tokyo soon Pauk

I moved all Betty and Frances cadre units to the Bonins. They have low morale and crack pilots.
This is ideal, they turn around if they encounter CAP and score lots of hits if not.

All I need now is 50 Shindens for India, 100 for Luzon + a few hundred Reppus and we will be able to
make a more efficient stand. Give me 2 weeks

Of course the enemy invasion fleet at Yanam - now covered by enemy cv's in Yanam port - was clouded in both
AM and PM D-Day would have been cancelled if bad weather had continued. In WitP amph and para
landings can be done in all kinds of weather. I strongly suggest that it should not be possible to perform
amph landings in t-storms.

The enemy landed in strength, a whole Army. So any defense at Yanam is pointless. We have to defend in depth.
2 enemy para landings in minor un-garrisoned bases in eastern India were conducted. Our troops are on the way
there from Burma, nothing much to worry about.

I had 50 Reppus on LRCAP over Yanam - in the air transport phase there must have been A2A fighting.
Some 33 Reppus were shot down for 8 enemy fighters

Converted the first 32 Shindens in India today. Lets surprise Andy in a few weeks when we have built
a sizeable Shinden/Reppu force

now that is really good news - G.Kellog is finally sunk!

Seriously, it seems that your giant sub(s) working good. I guess that you put agressive commander in charge? Does these giant subs are better than I and RO-boots apart from having three glenns?

As for the Kwantung: it looks like good defensive line - lets see if 2 K AP can delay russian bear! Someone mentioned that single russian corp has more than 1000 AP - scary isn't it?

Don't count that you will be able to disrupt enemy units - single push on divide button will almost negate the effect of bombing (more targets to attack)...

What i can see from your detailed plan (and enemy can not see that but Imperial HQ must be prepared for every option) are two weak spots (red arrows)... perhaps you could assign some troops for Tsitsihar (what ugly name that is!) and for base between Changchung and Uglaharmensk ... you will get defensive bonus for both of them (mountain and wood hexes). Besides that you can place short legged Reppus and Shindens in that base (Mutanchiang) from where both types can reach his bases at Vladivostok, Ugla.. and Imam. If you do that, he will be not able to attack HI before capturing Mutanchiang....

If you let those two bases weakly defended enemy will easily advance in Harbin's backyard and then continue advancing to the Manchuria centre - Changckung, Mukden....etc... I agree that Harbin should be defended, but not at any cost (anyway, you will have some Shindens in the pool by that time!)

I know that you don't have enough troops to cover all bases, but you should insist on "Blue defence line" once when enemy break through your first line defence, IMHO.

Hi PzB

Far be it for me to advise your geniusness . but don't you need to make sure andy doesn't get to harbin as a contested hex will not produce anything. I know you want the a/c factory operational.

and good going !

hm,
you´ll face 18 Rifle Corps each with 1100AV, 325 guns and 100 organic tanks,
spearheaded by 5 Mechanized Corps (580AV, 100 guns, 240 tanks) and 1 Tank Corps (380AV, 140 guns, 240 tanks)
add to that
10 Rifle Divisions (330AV, 110 guns),
4 Art Divisions (250 guns each),
2 Guards Art Divisions (350 guns each)
2 Eng Rgts
4 Corps HQs (command range 3)
1 Theater HQ (command range 9)

i think Andy can attack the Empire of Manchukuo from all directions simultaneously with reasonable chances of success.
good luck

don´t think any of your "strongholds" will hold against, let´s say 25.000 assault points including thousands of tanks...

Hopefully that huge AV will be diluted down by low experience and morale.
Also we can hope that Andy hasn't got the Russian units prepped for Manchukuo targets.

I would bet he has prepped at least half of his assault forces for the first target to attack, with the rest for follow on targets. Can´t think about him not doing this. Even if he forgot it for years, he probably could have thought about it in the last three months.

And those Russian troops should be equally exp. as the Japanese sitting there as both haven´t seen any combat. Perhaps the Russian "should" be even more experienced.

When do these Russion corps show up? They dont appear in the reinforcement que. I even looked for them in the editor and couldnt find them.

Do they all just suddenly appear on a certain date? The only way I have found them ingame is to run the Russian attack sceanrio.

they dont show up, they are "conversions": starting in june 45 all soviet units have their unit type changed:
rifle divions will become rifle corps, art units will become rifle divions etc, usually 1 or 2 units are converted per turn.
converted units will be at 100% strength and are teleported to their historical starting bases for operation auguststorm.

[EDIT]there arent 18 but 19 Rifle Corps

They are not really conversions, since they will appear even if all Soviet units have been eliminated.

Nice discussion guys, appreciate the input!
There are so many unknowns about the Reds that it's difficult to make qualified decisions.
I think Andy has to protect his bases, flanks - and there will most likely be between 2 or 3 main
attack prongs, each of some 7-8 AP me thinks.

For now I will gather my troops according to plan, try to build a reserve and await developments.
If I try to defend too much, I will end up defending nothing. If Harbin is cut of, so be it.
Maybe 1000 bombers will be enough to plunt the spearheads. With such huuge units it will be difficult
to provide replacements and R&R will take a lot of time. We can conduct amph landings behind enemy lines,
drop paras and disrupt the enemy in many ways.

Busy, busy days here. Little time for turns

Andy committed a lot of asw units - ac and ships today. 2 of our subs were destroyed/scuttled
and another 2 damaged around Marcus Island.

A surprise attack by our surface units led by the Kirishima struck back against enemy ASW units.

Enemy fleet is sailing towards Mannargudi/Trincomalee near India - probably to unload more troops somewhere.
Division of force is good - for us! Will try to disrupt.

Enemy cv's have split up in the Indian Ocean. Quite chaotic and no one knows were
the enemy will move. He isn't strong enough to go straight to Bombay/Karachi. His
flanks would be cut easily. Soon reserves from Burma/DEI will reach India and strengthen
our position.

More enemy cv's are moving from Luzon towards Singapore. Guess they will refit or take part
in the operations against India. This gives me time to make the Inner Perimeter stronger.

Made a difficult decision and started moving 2 tank regiments, 1 large brigade and a full division
to Kwantung from the Home Island strat reserve. Will move the panzers to Harbin - 3 tanks regiments
there to bolster defences. Will also build a central reserve.

Moved bombers from Bonins to Home Islands to rebuild. No more targets here for a while.

Reppu/Shinden conversions continue at full pace! In a few weeks Andy will feel our new teeth.
When we have 50 Shindens and 100 Reppus with a screen of Oscars, we will test their efficiency.
A Shinden has a max move radius of 8 hexes which forces us to undertake several 'jumps' to move them.

Andy didn't comment the destruction of Shindens on the ground...either he didn't see it - or he
kept quiet not to alarm me. Think it's the latter

Sending the Shindens to the frontline for combat evaluation!
Ca 30 are currently ready with another 60 performing conversion training.
The ones in India are really flown by green pilots - the rest are experienced.
In all some 500 Shindens can become operational after all conversions are finished.

HI reserves are now falling with 5-6k pr day. This will only sustain us for ca 5-6 months unless
we cut production. With 9 months left of the war we need to do something, and occupying Okah and recovering
the oil the is one of the best ways of doing it. We need 200 Shindens and the remainder of the fleet to pull this
of in ca 7 weeks.

There are some 3000 AP in Luzon by now. Each day that goes more arrives. We're flying in elements of the 5th
Division from Kendari and a Bde scrounged from another bypassed base.

Andy scores a good hit against Gumma, using 278 B-29s of which 222 gets through!
Damage to ac factories is moderate. Think he's getting increasingly worried about Shindens/Reppus....
Some 1100 of them are coming of the assembly lines.

He's also annoyed about the para's disrupting supplies to his Army in Clark!
Will only cost him a couple of weeks, but that's good. His little unit next to Lingayen ties up an Army
while our paras prevents his army from getting supplies. Justice has been served

In India 2 troop ships are sunk as they finish unloading a Bde at Panaji.
The mauled Shinden Daitai that was hit on the ground put up 7 ac on CAP and lost 5.
It was a small test group with inexperienced pilots that fought a large enemy force.
The Shindens took down several Corsairs and Hellcats, the only pilot with exp - 67 - claimed 3 or 4 kills!
Unfortunately I lost the screenie were a Shinden downed a Corsair...will do it next time.
The new interceptor had a very high survivability rate and when we get 100 operational life will be good

A large enemy LCU has moved out of Yanam, but is following a path. Can't see what threat it poses.
Not very worried about India.

In Kwantung our defensive strongpoints are building. Harbin has 2500 AP now.
The Okinawas have also some 2500 AP put together while Formosa has almost 2000.

We now have some 800 Reppus coming off the assembley lines.
The A6M8's converted! Still some 126 A6M5 left to convert.

Some 486 Shindens are also helping! Converting units each day, so give me a little
time and A2A will be fun again

A not too good turn!

A dispersed convoy is caught and 80 of the ships critically wounded by enemy cv's in the
Arabian Sea! There are really a lot of enemy cv's and TFs around India now.

At Yanam we launch a major strike - just as another CV TF arrives.
Even though the strike is big and well coordinated the Uber CAP shoots down everything but the
high altitude kamis - that doesn't hit anything. The kill ratio was so horrible that I can do
nothing but shake my head and increase production of Shindens....

We continue to convert Reppu/Shinden units and build a strategic air reserve.
I'm happy about the defensive preparations in Kwantung. Soon there will be 10k AP in the major defensive
bases.

Shutting down all Frank production; with 1250 in the pools we got enough.
Need to conserve HI - down to 960k and we expend 5-6k pr day. All we really need is to build a 3 month
reserve of all critical AC type by the end of the year - then we'll keep the wheels turning.

The question is whether we should invade Okah or not. The Reds do not have ships to reinforce the place,
but Andy may be standing ready to counter-attack it with Allied troops if we go in!

What do you think - should we leave Okah alone on the northern tip of Sakhalin?

pheeeeeeew... Next time don't forget the percentage or you're gonna kill some of your readers with a heart attack!
80% sounds better than 80...especially when there are only 5 ships out there :D

Sorry Fish, 80 ships would have been a major blow to the Empire
The ships carried half a Bde and a Tank Reg...!-(

Andy said it was a coincident as he was prepping his cv's for a run against Karachi...talk about bad luck - not a cloud in the stormy Arabian Sea!

We got our first night fighter ace yesterday, 5 kills! Not bad.
Wish we had some "Schrage Musik" on our fighters...difficult to shoot down enemy night intruders.

PZB, can you post a screen shot of the Intel screen? I am trying to estimate a max number of points that the Allies can score. Since you are a few months ahead of my game I figured your game would be a good place to see where I need to be in a few months.
