Oooh an interesting turn PZB landed Paras at the non base hex in the mountains across my LOC. It's an interesting trick and I have always resisted doing it myself but its timing is impeccable he has used so now I can as well in India.

(If anyone wants to know how to do it I am happy to share but its a little sneaky ;) )

I have no issue with it per se so not complaining its a valid choice

Unfortunately one of my carrier TF's got hit hard south of Iwo it was escorting a TF through the 'GAP' I have been sooo lucky so far its about time PZB had a little.

Hm, let me guess, you set the mission to supply the hex first, and then change it into airdrop?

p.s. 1st Australian Army is passing the Andaman Islands now and is still not spotted.....

The TF is 3 days steaming at max speed from the assault beaches and the concentration of 11th Airborne Div is almost complete on Andaman Islands

in total the Army consists of a single reinforced Corps of 4 Divs

1st Army HQ
3 x Inf Divs (3rd, 9th and 11th)
2nd Aus Cav Div
2 x A/T Regts
1 x Arty Regt
1 x US Arty Bde
5 x Tank Bns
2 x Base Forces

In total 80,000 veteran soldiers lets see what happens

11th Airborne will perform deep strikes trying to incite uprisings in India Cities - At least 4 bases look to be totally ungarrisoned !!!

I have 2 Sqns of LR Coronado transports for later insertion.

1 will take 503rd Para Regt to attack northern Burma and Assam region the second will carry 511th Para Regt to attack Lucknow/Benares

187th and 188th Glider Regts will act as Divisional Reserve if I can secure an AF on the mainland they will be ferried in to that location ASAP and used for future 'deep' strikes

I am worried about the Soviet AF most of the fighters are operating KingCobras I dont know how they will cope with Reppus never mind Shindens

of 1,145 Fighters over 700 are KingCobras only 100 are in La-7's and about 250 in Yak-3's

260 Sturmovicks and 500 Tu-2's or PE - 3's make up the rest its not a lot.....

I have to say I am concerned I have no stocks of KingCobras (55 in pool against 700 deployed not a lot of cover) and the pilots are all in high 50's xp wise except for 3 KingCobra Groups that are mid 60's

I have 400 pilots in the pool which is not a lot.

I expect the Soviet AF to lose badly quite quickly

Just don't use Soviet airforce. If it is  not going to help you, don't use it. Or better, use it only where you don't expect losses and have air superiority from the start.

No, use the Soviet airforce, but use it the way the Soviets used it:
Set all those Kingcobras on groundattack and get after his groundforces.

Aye the soviet AF is weak and may well be a problem as I have offered not to use soviet bases for US Aircraft.

It is probably correct but it may be painfull for the Soviets.

OK Situation in PI is moving on after the para drop in my rear my troops are going the long way round to Clark and it takes days but we will get it done.

I estimate a month to have finished the campaign and taken Clark Field.

In the meantime a carrier TF gets the crap kicked out of it off the Bonins steps will need to be taken to neutralise these islands once and for all.

OK last but not least the invasion of India is on.

Last night Glider Borne troops of the 187th Regt landed at Yunam and although they failed to take the base the defences are remarkably light. (I thought non existant but my intel was faulty)

Phase 2 is landings by all forces tomorrow covered by CVE's on close support and fleet carriers offshore.

In support nuisance parachute landings will occur.

the 503rd para Regt will attempt to sieze Benares NE of Yunam and the 511th will make landings in the East Bengal around Dacca/Dimapur.

503rd's landing is a serious attempt to threaten PZB's rear the 511th is a nuisance raid I 'think' the bases are unguarded in which case if nothing else I destroy forts....

The paratroopers at the moutain hex in my rear have totally screwed my plans - as they are Japanese getting rid of them is difficult and my forces moving at 7 miles per day in the mountains cannot redeploy quickly enough - this is costing me weeks I dont have it is very frustrating.

No supplies get to Clark so my all out drive to get to the non malaria base has been a waste of time
I think its time to send a message to PZB to prevent it happening again.

I am thinking non base paratrooper landings by all four para Bdes outside of Bombay with perhaps a Bn in the most inconvenient transport nexus in India just to mess with his unit pathing.

OK things have moved on...

1. A raid on Calcutta destroyed sereral shindens (oh crap !!!) PZB has been dammed lucky with his advancement rolls.

2. A carrier TF heading NW for a speed run on Karachi port ended up in the middle of a troops convoy I am trying to make PZB paranoid about allied sig int but the truth is it waqs a total fluke. I hadn't spotted them or had any significant intel in days - this I like !!!

3. Yanam is going to take a while to develop. After the initial unload the transports will perform 1 trip between VP/Andaman where they will ferry in 11th Ariborne Div and various Seabees I will then take my tinme to build up - I want PZB to redeploy to stop me because then I will hook him by sea !!!

4. Japanese paratroopers have all been removed from my rear allowing supplies to flow.

5. A secondary landing at San Marcelino has been cancelled I have plans for that Division.

6. 2 Corps are asembling at Camranh Bay and transports are moving I think I need to move on either Formosa or another base in fighter range of the HI soon.

7. A heavy Superfort raid against Gumma caused significant damage to the aircraft factories it was risky and suffered 12% attrition but I think it was worthwhile - from now on Superforts will operate purely in strategic mode from 3 bases by night against the HI - Hue, Wake and Appari.

Wake based BG's will concentrate on Tokyo
Appari based BG's will concentrate on Gumma
Hue based BG's will concentrate on Hiroshima

Only one question remains Nukes where toi use them the 393rd is available and nukes are coming on stream where and when do I use them....

Overall not a bad few days

same as with your other heavy bombers! Use them against the bases with the biggest Shinden / Reppu factory. Those two planes are the ones (the Shinden at least twice as important than the Reppu) that will make your air attacks VERY costly IMO...

take those factories out ASAP! If PzB produces 70-100 Shindens a month you can deal with them, if he produces 500, then it´s nearly game over - not for him, for you...

Oh its laugable the numbers PZB is producing

1st line fighters now are P51D, F4U1D, P47D, F4U and F6F and maybe P38J everything else is obsolete.

For the Japanese its the Frank, Tony 100, Shinden and Reppu.

I am willing to bet that in these key types I am being outrpoduced by the Japanese :)

Can you launch Nukes at night ? If not then I will need to consider launching an attack with carrier support to get a Nuke through to Gumma and I think that has to be the number 1 target....

It is laughable indeed...

Hopefully nikmod games later in the war, with a tweaked production system, would make it more realistic, ie decently experienced jap pilots flying late war planes able to stand against the american armada but being progressivily worned by superior US numbers...

no need to drop them at night! IIRC the a-bomb carrying bomber can´t be intercepted... Take out Gumma with one bomb, if most factories are destroyed, take out the next target. If many Shinden/Reppu factories are still there, drop another on Gumma...

Another turn not much to say I can only afford to drop 2 A Bombs without screwing up my victory conditions

OK the plan for India

1. get the AF to lvl 2
2. Get 11th Para present.
3. Deep Para Drops in support of a ground offensive probably on the axis Lucknow/Delhi as PZB is reinforcing the Bangalore/Hyderabad axis.

One thing I have noticed PZB has a 150+ Shinden factoy at Harbin but I have no way of reaching it ;(

Aleutians, Wake, PI, Hue they are all out of range....

Once the Soviet Juggernaut will get activated in August, I think it will be worth a thousand superfortresses against Harbin ;)
Once the USSR will get activated all your air range issues will be history anyway. Maybe you should talk to PzB about how you may deal with non-soviet planes in USSR. It may require a rule to make it look like a "Frantic" kind of operation. You can't expect to have a whole air force use Soviet strips like if they were English bases, but Im pretty sure you may put some bomber groups up there, just like the USAAF did with the Frantic missions in Ukraine. That would be logicial.

Well would frantic missions cover for the use of 250 B29s ? that would seem a bit far fetched to me...

I already offered weeks ago  not to use USAAF forces in Manchuria it would be wrong.

If the Soviet AF gets wiped out we may talk again but for now no B29's in USSSR

Though the USA and the USSR weren't enemies yet, they had certainly become rivals. Both knew they were winning the war. Cooperating like that was less likely than ever before.

Maybe not 250 - but we can assume that with such a bad situation well into 1945 for the allies, step would have been taken to get everything ready for a strategic air campaign in time for the Soviet intervention.
Of course they were rivals in our historical dimension, and they still would be in this game - but we can't bet on which consequences an indian invasion and such a powerful Japan into 1945 may have provoked.
In Yalta the Americans agreed to a Russian offensive in Mandchuria. In Pzb's and Andy's game, they would probably would have asked for much more.

No issue tensions were to high for co operation except in extremis if I have to I will shift in fighters and tac bombers (with PZB's agreement) if the soviet airforce gets crushed but no strat bombers and not until we at least see how it goes. How could say B29's operate from Russia transport the bombs and fuel from Murmansk ?

Na not possible

But thats a long way off lemme tell you about a little plan called Operation Dambuster

I have 6 nice new repaired fleet Carriers in Ray Spruances 2 TF's each TF has three carriers and plenty of escorts and oh look they are both within 750 miles of Tokyo undetected...

Oh dear what shall we do......

Last night CINCPAC under direction of the Joint Chiefs ordered USAAF and USN co operation in a daring raid against Tokyo

The target is not the Industrial heartland ohhh no not this time this time the B29's are going for Tokyo's Airfield IN DAYLIGHT

2 Carrier TF's will make a speed run to within 300 miles of Tokyo seperated by 60 miles of oceon at least one should be unclouded.

Each TF has 3 Sqns of Corsairs and 3 of Hellcats

The Hellcats will operate in fleet defence mode and the Corsairs will escort in a massive B29 raid from Aparri targeting the Airfields - A follow up daylight strike from Wake will go after the MI complex in the city.

This is only possible because PZB has not yet spotted the carriers and these ships and TF's have been in the rear repairing for months after the battles around Iwo.

I want 400+ B29's to hit Tokyo with everything they have got !!!!

Well it went well but we missed Tokyo Rose 300 aircraft torched on the ground and many more int eh air as the Carriers cleared the way for the heavies.

One of Spruances TF's was socked in by the weather and no Jap recon spotted em I think PZB will take this for a hit and fade and will LRCAP Tokyo !!!

Guess what he may just leave an opening at Gumma so with Hap Arnold showering the medals Doolittle is screaming at the ordnance crews to ream those forts and get em back in th air this time we are after the Shinden Factories at Gumma....
