I realize that the Rebs are supposed to be disadvantaged.....

But the idea that the Union cannot attack in 1861 is simply false. They can give Hooker and Lyons up to 12,000 men each.

And they usually do, simply to get them into a fight to gain xp.

Now 12,000 men is a match for Johnson in the valley.
The idea that Lyon must stay in Missouri is not true.

The idea that the Union must give the AoP to McClellan is also not true.
They can leave him in Ohio. McDowell is better than Little Mac in game terms.

But.....

The Union can give Milroy and Hamilton upwards of 30k troops each.
Now we are talking about REAL trouble.

The only weakness that the Union has is Supply units. He doesnt have enough.
To protect those massive stacks from attrition, he needs to pad the stack with supply units to absorb the losses.

And he cant. He gets something like 200 War Resources a turn, and that isnt alot when building Supply units.

Look at the points he needs to build:

Jefferson, KY Depot + Fort
Warren, KY Depot + Fort
Harpers Ferry, WV Fort
Alexandria, VA Depot + Fort
Paducha, IL Depot + Fort
Cairo, IL Fort

And likely at least one Indian encampment Depot + Fort

So that is 24 Supply units and 24 Batteries of whatever. (it cant all be 6 pounders)

So when playing against the Union, remember that anything that destroys his supply is good.

Also remember that every transport you sink, is a loss of (whatever) per turn to him.
Do NOT wonder if it hurts him to sink transports, it DOES.
He doesnt want to put fast frigates down there hunting Semmes either.

But the thing I dislike most is that you cannot avoid the 'kamikaze' effect of him tossing Lyon at you
(or Hooker) Just to raise their xp. He isnt after ground here. If he loses a battle, well that is sad.
Send more men next time.
After a while you feel like Spartacus facing the next Roman Legion.
They never run out of men.

Also.....
It hurts to max out recruiting. Max Draft, Max tax, Max printing.
And you never have enough Money at the start.
After a year, you never have enough MEN.

Also remember that if he is stupid enough to move a massive stack in Mud or Snow, he will suffer for it.
Just retreat in front of him. I have seen entire armies disintegrate in KY.

McD starts with an army.

When you get a second army, and you pass over McC, you will pay for it.

Yes but you can send Mac an empty HQ if you wish.

It doesnt need to be the AoP

It becomes the AoTP when he gets it I think.

The name of the army doesn't matter though.

As for giving him an army, to quote: "As Federals you can build one more in September/October (and it better be used for McClellan or you will pay dearly in NM) and another two in January/February '62."
