I just played the Coral Sea Historical scenario and ended up having two of my cruiser forces (Lexington got sunk) chasing a crippled carrier. They spent an entire day at 33 knots chasing it back and forth without ever making contact. (I ended up setting them to engage this sighting and high time compression).
The Carrier seemed to move SLOWLY north-northeast and this was confirmed after the scenario ended when I discovered that the carrier was escorted by 1 destroyer and was capable of 6 knots.
So I simply have to ask, does surface combat even work?

I've certainly had some major surface actions, but I'm guessing SSG would want to see your save file if you were unable to engage for no apparent reason. I have never engaged an enemy carrier in a surface action though, so that may be where the issue lies.

I've had several encounters between surface forces where a carrier was involved. I think it's difficult to bring on the fight through movement commands though. I usually give the "engage enemy TG" command. The carrier's escorts screen though so it's hard to sink a carrier until they've been disposed of.

I've reloaded the autosave and tried again, setting the TFs to engage this sighting. Despite the 27 knots speed difference, daylight, 2 TFs against 1 and an entire day to engage nothing happened.

Hi Warden,
Something does sound odd there. Can you send the save game through to me at support@ssg.com.au

Thanks
Alex

Hi Guys,

I've found and fixed a problem where crippled taskgroups weren't eligable to be involved in surface combat.

Nice to hear you've tracked it down and fixed it, I'm looking forward to trying the next patch.
