I'm a long time player of the WF/EF series on my old ME machine, but in addition to that machine I also have two XP PCs that are used for some flight sims that I also play. I just bought 2 (two) copies of CS and am waiting for delivery now. I plan to insall a copy on each machine so that my buddies and I can do some battling on the ground for a change, so here are my questions while I wait for the CDs to show up:

1) What is the latest patch that I will need to download and it's size? Any downloads will be done to another machine, saved to CD and then loaded into each machine as neither of these PCs have internet connections.

2) Any "gotchas" I should be on the lookout for when playing Human vs Human over a LAN? I understand that HvH play only works on scenarios, but that is not a problem as we (friends and I) usually only game until the beer runs out or our wives start complaining (whichever comes first).

The latest downloadable patch is about 25MB and is 1.02. There is a TEMPORARY update called 1.02B that is available here:

1.03 is in the works and will hopefully be released sometime before Christmas.

Here is a excellent introduction to Online gaming. I hope it offers some assistance.

Thanks Jason for the quick reply.

The Blitz link was great, thanks.

My understanding was that CS was a 1 or 2 player game, yet the link mentions up to 16 players. Is that true? If so, I've got to dust off a couple of more old PCs and buy a couple of more copies of the game 'cause there are a parcel of us old timers that love to get together and "game" during the long winter nights up here.

What is the difference between the 1.02 patch and the 1.02B patch?

I do want to thank you and everyone else at Matrix for bringing this game back to life. I tried to get my old version to run under XP and had so much trouble that I gave up and waited until this new version was released ( just found out about it this week).

Online, you can play up to 16 players, 8 per side.

PBEM there is no limit to the number of players, but tends to be a logistical nightmare after 3 per side.

1.02B fixes a few glitches that were nearly show stoppers for some of the scenarios that popped up with the 1.02 update.

Glad to hear you've purchased the game, it truly is a fantastic complilation with much to offer. I hope you enjoy it as much as we, the Campaign Series Legion, have enjoyed working on it!

There is more coming in the works!!

Not necessary, you can play 4 on 12 or 2 on 14 too ;)

Sometimes we play asymetric scenarios where two players on one side defend against two groups(4-6 players for each group), that fight against defenders and mutually compete to reach objective first (something like Konev-Zhukov race to Berlin)

Never even thought you could play this thing on-line too, how do you do that (i.e. how do you split the forces and ensure everyone only takes their troops forward). Sorry, not played any on-line games before, only PBEM.

Decided I'll be getting this now I reckon.

For each side there is lead player that can assign units to each connected player

Hey folks,

Thanks for the replys.

After I wrote post #3 and the "I thought this was a 1-2 player game" comment, I went

"DOH!"

Of course, I remember that from reading the damn manuals in the old version.

I'm going to be running this thing over a LAN, currently with 2 PC's, but will add a couple of more as time goes on, I suspect.

You all have mentioned different combos of players, but in each case the total has been an even number. What about an odd number of players? Anybody had any problems doing that?

Having an odd number of players also works fine.

Thanks,

Really didn't think so, but had to ask.

Still waiting on USPS for the game, though
