I have now played another game since I wrote about my fast victory as the germans on normal difficulty in the aar section.

This time I played as allies on the toughest difficulty.

Indeed it was tough but still in the year 1943 Germany surrendered and it is now only a matter of time before the minor axis powers are killed off.

What happened and what are axis benefits?

The benefits the axis have seem to be very many and only one thing stopped him from winning.

I dont know if all advantages that the ai recieves are listed in the manual since i have not read it yet.

What I could see was this;

1) Ever increasing number of nearly impossible to kill u-boats. Even after America entered the war the sea was still mastered by the axis. I managed to get the american army over though and that was the most important thing.

These subs apart from killing many warships that never could be replaced due to lack of cash took a heavy toll on british convoys that also seemed smaller in themselves compared to easier settings.

2) Enourmos mass of german and germanallied troops. Never before in my games was the ai confident enough to declare war on denmark, holland and belgium in the same turn. Now he did and did not suffer from overextension.

3) France earned so little money it could hardly garrison the hexes from the maginotline to the channel. The belgian units provided some extra but at least a few months ahead of historic time the germans stood in Paris.

4) England earned also very little money, convoys always attacked and small, up unitl 1942 the only reinforcements i could buy were 2 fighters.

5) German technology skyhigh. On the russian front when i was about to make my first upgrades german units were upgraded above 10 in level and it did not stop at that level either...

6) Oil seemed to be no problem. In spite of having more then 10 panzers (including italian) they kept moving.

7) Barbarossa, the usual tactit that i normally win with as allies, just making a big panzer army and getting every corps and garrison unit up front to overwhelm the axis and counterattack the germans at first good chance did not work. In the end russian manpower was drained and quality suffered. 2 hexes from Perm however the unstoppable german horde disappeared from the map.

In spite of the fact that they had stronger units then me and units enough to win on both fronts the germans refused to shift the few forces needed from the russian front to the western front to brush aside my western allied landing. Thus I won the game by a small margin getting to Berlin before he got Perm using almost only the original 1939 units of the americans and the british.

To sum up; incredibly powerful AI in terms of raw combatstrenght/economy and tech but not clever enough to put only a little more help on the western front.

Also it seems to Ai refuses to garrison Brest (westernmost city in france). In more then one game, this one on hardest setting included this city was open for taking. I took it early with british garrison unit and the ai never cared to throw me out. It provided a very good source of supply for when my real invasion came.

One of my dissapointments in the "difficulty" settings of most games is that this just means more troops and production for the computer side.

"Difficulty" should mean AI getting ratcheted up.

Overall, I agree, this is an easy game to trounce.

karloskar, from the next patch we have better AI defence of the western theatre. You can try the 1.03 beta patch and already there should notice the changes.

The changed economy (war effort %) on higher/lower difficulty will affect convoys since the convoy sizes depend on the USA and UK war effort %.
