New puter arrived, naturally first program loaded, Harp (actually the rest loaded during build).

H3 config, screen set highest resolution (mm, feeling good), disable run in windows (a full screen of harp goodness) a couple of favourite map settings adjusted and away we go.

Flashing and spluttering and all the assortments of weirdness guaranteed to make the owner of a shiney new box o silicon wafers sh*t and sceam NOOoooooo.

Once my breathing had become regular I searched the mess that was the harp game screen, eventually managed to find the quit option and did just that, just as all was returning to normal I manage to catch a glimpse of harpoon blaming my 'out of date drivers' for the mess, ahh dogged finger pointing to the last, the bulldog spirit! A bull type spirit to be sure, but deffinitely not DOG.....

OK, experiments were performed with run in and out of window and varying H3 screen resolutions etc, the problem has been identified, native resoltion on my laptop is 1440x900, max res in H3config is 1280x1024. The theory goes something like this 1280 goes into 1440 but that 1024, well only the the most persistant will try and get that to fit into 900. Not getting too technical, as you have probably guessed computerisationing not my strong point, autocad/photoshop me good, computer me bad!

So getting to the guts of things, what do I do to get the full effect of all that wide screen goodness? 1024x768 resolution run in window is the best I can get and I have vista telling me it has had to downgrade colour/color pallet to suit harpoon. Other relevant information, Nvidia 8600GT card if that makes a difference.......??? Oh yeah, even at lower resolution running out of window produces some nerve wracking moments as the game loads.

Just by the way, and dont tell anyone this, vista actually works ......... its even sort of good

My laptop also has a 1440 x 900 screen and I can get it to run full screen, but the graphics quality is extremely poor (stretched and "light") and there appears to be a slight delay in the mouse movements/clicks. Part of this problem is due to the change in colors (it looks like it changes to 16 bit) and the rest is probably due to it trying to resolve the widescreen ratio.

If I set the video mode to windowed and adjust the sliders to max horizontal and vertical (1428 x 836) everything looks and works great.

By the way, my laptop is about 4 years old and I haven't updated the video drivers in a long time (NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5700).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think you nailed it NEC, harp does drop the the pallet back to 16 bit. Vista sent me a little message when I quit the game to tell me the normal pallet has been restored. I could get the game to run out of window at 1024x768 but it was all stretchyness and weirdo world (or maybe it was a flashback)

In window 1024x768 is fine, no finger pointing driver issues, watery warfare bliss. Drivers are good VCDH straight out of the oven in fact, still warm acording to Nvidia site. Probably would be a wish listy type of thing if some wider screen resolutions could be added to the H3 config panel.  Im still running 3.7.blah.etc and havent downloaded the 3.8.who.wot patch yet, so unsure if this has been addressed?

Will set to 1280x1024 and run out of window again and attempt to find the pull down menu for a screen grab, busy weekend tho Harp has to take a back seat what with super cars and F1 GP and Moto GP, ahhhh the weekend when too much motorsport is barely enough.

alonso is not mucking around tonight, b*lls as big as watermelons for that manouvre! back to renault for him i suspect, or so the press are quoting. damn that spa track is just brilliant

definitely appears that game vert res being higher than native ie 1024 (game) vs 900 (screen), was the problem. bleeding obvious really

oh yeah for H3 config read H3 launcher.... derrr

now for stoner to put in a blinder in moto gp

I'm watching the F1 race in Belgium right now.  Watched Alonzo push Hamilton off the last turn of the first lap.  Glad he's probably not going to be with Mclaren next year.  At least if I was Ron Denis I'd boot his ass outta that team.

I'm wondering if the differences in resolution between desktop and the game might have anything to do with it.  I'll lower my desktop to one of the preset resolutions in the game later and see if that makes a difference.

Later
D

At least partially addressed in 3.8 in that you can choose wide-screen resolutions and have finer grained control over H3 screen size.
