I think that the main objective is done. Marianas seemed to become substantial airbase for Japanese Kamikazes and bombers. Now Saipan is definately closed for good.

Usual day at the office for the moment. I wonder what kind of production capabilites Dave has left to himself!

Burma

I'am starting to withdraw out of Mandalay. That slaughter fest is not going anywhere. Dave has some 100 000 men at Mandalay + my intel shows 30 enemy units at Rangoon too. So, he seems to have sunstantial reserves brought into area.

CVL Hermes did receive nasty hit. Sys damage, flooding and fires are +40. The ship is heading towards Iwo Jima now as do the rest of the fleet.

Future plans:

Actually there really is not many floating around. Now that Kadina is secured I think Japan is completely isolated.

RN carrier force at India is quite substantial size now. The question what do with them???

Also now that I'am withdrawing out of Mandalay. It is a large army with some 200 000 men!!!

Soviet Union??? When do the troops "double" their strenght?? I might consider joint operation with US + USSR once it becomes active.

Basically nothing is confirmed for now. Dave has a lot of troops laying around and way too many transport vessels left.

Ok. The game is somewhat of an stalemate currently. I'am having troubles in decieding what to do..

a) My transport fleet is growing thin. The battles in earlier times are costly.
b) My flanks in the CenPac region are NOT secured. This means that I need to cover my bases as I do advance with sizeable garrisons.
c) Dave still have substantial CV assets somewhere in hiding.
d) China is out of the war. Neither side has the strenght to battle it out.
e) Dave is an excellent player!
f) I have burned a lot supplies in the battles earlier. This was an suprise how much fuel and supplies you do need!!! Also this has taken out a lot of transport ships too.

Here brief summary on what is ongoing.

Currently I have withdrawn my ground troops out of Mandalay to Myithkina. I will propably start another offensive in Burma very soon though once my troops have rested a bit. RAF continues to bomb Rangoon and Mandalay daily.

In CenPac I'am moving fuel and supplies ahead. Almost have piled up them quite nicely. Kadina is now also completely secured.

Allied bombers have visited Singapore too. This was a first visit since the lost of Singapore.

Well, IJN did not have CV's parked at Singapore that is now confirmed. Not too many places to hide them though so they are propably at Java or near Truk. Everywhere else is not safe.

US/RN carrier fleet is ready for action in CenPac.

RN Carriers are ready for action soon too.

I'am eagerly awaiting for the Russians to start rolling into Manchuko.

Daily resource bombing runs are made in Japan. Bulk of his industry is destroyed. I have also kept occasionally bombing resources at China, Manchuko and Thailand.

I have given some thought about future operations last night.

The options were as follows:

a) Formosa
b) Korea
c) China
d) Luzon
e) Operation Olympic

Well.. the conclusion I came was that a through d wohn't serve any purpose. Allthough the landing at Korea would put more pressure on Manchuko area.

BUT.. than again I hope Russians will survive by themselves. So, it is going to be Operation Olympic!!! I did already start preparing for this massive operation. It will involve a lot of troops and such it will take sometime to get things organized. Also my CV fleet will be in action as well as US BB TF's which have now left Pearl Harbour.

Basically you are going to see invasion of the home islands!!!

Also British troops will soon start moving againts Mandalay once more now better rested and prepped.

This ought to get ugly soon enough.

Oh, and the operation Olympic will begin soon as my CV's get back from Luzon and refuel themselves.

The initial landings site/sites are not yet determined. There are between 4 to 6 possible targets. Just need to pick the correct one/ones.

The initial troop transports have already loaded.

LOL , inavde the HI while the poor old brits still havnt got mandalay

BTW Bombing large stacks of troops does virtually no damage at all because the targets
rotate as they get damaged, don't think theres aby way round it .. bar invade malaya
from the sea.

Has Japan got ANY HI left at all ? that raid on saigon 240 odd hits in one raid ! i'd
hate to living in a japanese home island city right now.

LOL , inavde the HI while the poor old brits still havnt got mandalay

BTW Bombing large stacks of troops does virtually no damage at all because the targets
rotate as they get damaged, don't think theres aby way round it .. bar invade malaya
from the sea.

Has Japan got ANY HI left at all ? that raid on saigon 240 odd hits in one raid ! i'd
hate to living in a japanese home island city right now.

...British army advance has been disappointing to say at least. Hopefully, I can overwhelm the IJA there IF not than at least I'am consuming his resources on armament etc.

...the invasion will begin very soon. Too bad that I have guard my flanks but cannot have all my way. Personally, I don't know whether I have an chance of succeeding with this but I'am doing this for fun.

Hmmm. Right, the good old stacks! Definately, these stacks do work wonders in ground combat too. Also, I think you are correct that there is noway around it... BUT I will continue to bomb him because it ought to help sooner or later.

.. I think Dave can produce HI outside Japan. (As the game mechanics allow him).. but I don't think there is much left in Japan. Except in Northern part of Home Islands.

..and the way Russian units look there wohn't be much left at Manchuko soon either.

Well... now that you mentioned.... ...I'am 99,5% certain that I have forgotten to check the units. They were earlier prepped for defensive positions but now these should be changed to offensive targets.

That is a long list on engagements from last turn. As you can already see Dave is bringing in reinforcements. He actually has some units currently at Nagasaki.

This ought to be tough operation.

This is going to be tough. Already 160 000 enemy troops present! I'am moving additional troops into Kagoshima too! Just goes to show how tough the invasion of Japan can be vs human opponent.

I'am not sure even that I can pull this off. Even with the Japan blockaded and its industry in ruins.

Meanwhile at Burma....

This is an massive operation. Both sides have 200 000 in the shores of Kagoshima.

I wasn't expecting him to be able to bring in as much troops so soon. This is what you get with 3 day turns. I can only imagine that more troops are on their way.

Some good news from Burma....

We did finally reduce an fortifications!!!  ..I guess his troops are starting to feel the RAF bombing campaign + are low on supplies and morale!!! Another assault next turn + massive airstrikes... maybe we can bring down another level!

Around a month until Soviet Union activates!

Ok.. this is not good at all. I have kept Japanese blockaded for months and kept bombing his resource centers etc. I did land + 500 000 supply points and enough support for the offensive... and look at the odds!!!

This is NOT good sign.. and I doubt I can deliver enough firepower to overcome the Japanese defenses!

US CV's shot down several Betty bombers last turn near Kagoshima.

Slow but steady progress here now. I think I can conquer Mandalay maybe within a month or so...! RAF + US Airforce has kept on their massive bombings runs here. (Allthough as you can see they really don't matter that much)

Russians will enter the war soon. I do actually think that Dave has withdrawn sizeable forces to be used elsewhere.

With the combat replays, is is moving more guys in?  My guess, esp with 3 day turns (correct?) and the rails in Japan, he can zoom in troops from all over Honshu in just a turn or two.

Yes, he is definately moving more troops into Kagoshima. I cannot prevent him due to 3 day turns.

Actually both of us are... 2 Marine divisions are about land at Kagoshima within days. Plenty of supplies piled up for the units and a lot of it in reserve at Bonin's and Iwo Jima.

The first Atomic Bomb will be dropped at Tokyo next turn!!!

I guess this whole battle comes to supplies. He shouldn't have much left in the Home Islands. I have bombed the place last 6 months!!! ...and he cannot bring in additional supply convoys since Japan is completely blockaded from SRA and DEI.

The question is how much does it matter whether he has tons of supplies or not!!!.. in my experience it really doesn't that much for the Japanese.

My estimate on the battle at Kagoshima is an stalemate which basically means Japanese victory at this point. Unless.... something happens.. I think I need an miracle!

I guess the only way would be to seize Manchuko quickly and land some Russian units into Northern Japan. I doubt though that it will be too easy ride at Manchuko.

Can you swing a second landing, somewhere that will force him to divide his troops?

I wish I could but the truth is that I cannot start another beach head... well I could but I cannot bring in adequate amount of troops. I propably could find maybe around 2000 assault points for the landings.. maybe a bit more but Japan has sizeable amount of troops in all parts. (At Kagoshima Dave has 50 units)

You how good an player Dave is so another beach head is out of the question... Either I manage to break out here or I'am stuck.

I wish I would have Chinese units available here but none are... neither are the Russians yet... British are stuck at Burma... Aussie's haven't made much headway in the South.

Finally!!! Allied armoured units are ordered to follow these Japanese troops. I will continue to push towards Rangoon and SRA.

There will be some 16 000 enemy troops now cut off at Lashio. Additional Chinese units are on their way and will destroy these enemy troops.

Ok. I have an question and didn't find any definate answer in the manual.

I have 1 Atomic bomb ready. The B29 squadron is currently at Kadina with level 7 airfield.

The problem is that these aircraft refuse to fly. Any ideas why?
