I say chaps

Looking for a site that provides some detail in regards to the French Pacific assets, lovely sites abound but cant find info on Pacific assets. Maybe I have been to relevant sites but they are in the wrong language, damn their eyes! Almost ready to write a scen., it should be ready by, aww lets say, Xmass....... prolly well before HCCE

2 things that might help - you probably already know this but;-

1) Search on "French Polynesia" - this is usual title for the real estate.

2) Alta Vista Babel Fish can translate pretty good; and it's free!

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

EDIT: Hint, when using Babel fish, just put in a sentence at a time. You often need to mess about to get real meaning and it won't translate nouns (people, places or things) much if at all.

Still better than thumbing through a French-English dictionary though.

Cheers Mr Fingers, if I cant find something in Jinglish I might just have to go for the babel fish option. I have found some interesting sites and occasionally in the text it might be noted that this or that ship has completed a tour.... and some mention of excercises with China. I just thought there would have been a more regular Pacific Force.  Back to the probability search engine

More precisely..... French naval assets based in the Pacific....... could even narrow this down to the western Pacific/New Caladonia. I'll leave the Tahiti region to the surfers for now

If you have information in regards to the Sino-French naval wargames (2006?) and the French units that participated that would help.

thanks

thanks jan

I ve spent so much time at that damn marine nationale site (which refused to run in english...... hmmmm  ) looking at activites deploiements and activites operations without so much as a cracker. Lo and behold its in les forces armees   Oh well I got to give babel fish translator a damn good run.

btw, the forces are mostly a few frigates, some P400 patrol ships and some MARPAT aircafts

Yep, there doesnt seem to be any high end assets in the region at all, found a newspaper report about the down grading of presence in the Pacific re post nuclear testing, and low due to strategic importance.....  That would put a smile on the face of any 'ANW' expansionist leader in the region.  Muahahahahaaaaa!

Bungle, afaik, the French Navy's (Aeronavale) Flotille 25F also operates in French Polynesia, with its HQ at Faaa airport in Tahiti. They were flying 5 Dassault Falcon Gardian aircraft between two detachments at Tahiti and Noumea.

And Scramble will show you the airbases of many nations even outside their own borders; for France they show the above mentioned 25F flotilla and some naval helo's.

Freek

P.S. never found a 'scramble-like' site for warships; sometimes I'm forced to use Google earth to look at fleet harbours!
