Now that the official 3.8 patch is out will some of the scenarios available at harpoonhq be updated to work with 3.8?

Already numerous scenarios posted at the HarpoonHQ are 3.8-compatible (for example most of Sirius' CWDB scens). Some scenarios are offered in both v3.6 and v3.8 - compliant versions (two files) while others work with both versions (one file) without changes. This is clearly listed in each scenario description. Scenarios which have not yet been tested for 3.7/3.8 compatiblity are also clearly labeled as such.

If you have a particular favorite which you'd like to see made compatible with 3.8, shout it out at the HHQ forum and we'll have a go at it

Well thanks for the info. To be honest I don't play Harpoon a lot and when I've visited HarpoonHQ in the past I've always grabbed DB2000 scenarios. It doesn't seem like theres much going on for DB2000 updates at the moment. So I was kind of being selective with my original post and I didn't notice the loads of updated scenarios for the colonial wars database. I will have to check that database out. Thanks.

You're welcome .

Also check our front page, as we have released three more 3.8-compatible DB2000 scenarios just this last week.

Just to give you a bit of background info on updates to the DB2000. The problem is that with the 3.7 release a new game behaviour was introduced that was meant to improve AI-behaviour. Since this change air groups can evaluate threats to them and react by attacking the threat. However, many of the DB2000 scenarios rely on a storyline where missions are set up for the scenario that are supposed to attack one specific target. Naturally the new mission behaviour caused these scripted scenarios to malfunction (i.e. the storyline wasn't followed any more) and made many of them unwinnable (because victory conditions were required one of those threat-targets to survive, etc...). When the seriousness of this new behaviour became apparent the feature set for 3.8 was already decided so the required changes did not make it into this patch.

However, I can tell you that we are right now testing a fix for this problem which will allow scenario designers to once again create missions that will only target a specific target (plus added functionality that will give them even more options for that). I am hopefull that this patch can be made available to the public much quicker than the last one and after that there shouldn't be many issues preventing the DB2000 scenarios from being updated.

Best regards,
JP

I hope so.

So to help make things happen I have an offer to make. If Ragnar makes an application for access to the "DBEdit" version of the database editor I think I might just be able to get hold of a spare copy of the Reimer Editor that might be lying around somewhere in the ether...

I believe it's a sad state of affairs when this game is missing one of it's longest running databases and the guy that works on it may just have some spare time on his hands, well a little bird told me something about that.

So rather than starve the fans tell Ragnar to get himself here: http://advancedgaming.biz/dbe_request/ From what I can gather that's just about the only thing stopping him from gaining access to the RE. So can somebody please let him know that if he sends that in I believe the whole update issue will soon be resolved

We've just opened a new section at our forums ( http://www.harpoonhq.com/phpBB2/ ) explicitly for the purpose of rebuilding & testing previously-released scenarios for v3.8. Anyone wanting to be part of the process feel free to join and help

Well. Lots of promises but no follow up? Ragnar applied and upon asking for the RE, was denied it... How about that? You might want to clarify things a bit on that.

That is not really answering the question. I know there is two different editors but the Reimer was offered if Ragnar applied for the standard version. He did that and got approved for that. But that was it.

Another question then, out of curiosity, when can we expect the Reimer Editor to be released, ie out of beta? Months? Years? A lifetime? Or will only ever be available to those special few?

It took him three months to take up the offer. DO NOT attempt to hold me responsible for Ragnar's behaviour. I made an offer, nothing was taken up and after 3 months of silence AGSI are "compelled" to make an exception for Ragnar? I think not.

Next time you quote me like that, you might want to include the date of my original post.

Cheers

Can you tell me is there a plan to ever release the RE to the general public given that it is a more useful editor than the one open to the public at the moment.
Finally given that there seems to be a strong desire for DB2000 to be updated would it not be sensible to give Ragnar the best tools to do so ?
I appreciate the fact he may take his database in a direction that some people may not want. I also am aware he has his disagreements , but hey we are all grown ups . I say give him the tools and move on. from a personal point of view I bought harpoon 3 and ANW on the strength of the support given by harpoonHQ.

No I did not say that he was approved for H3RE. I said he was approved for H3CD. That's the in-game editor. Whoever told you that he was approved for RE is incorrect.

And neither did I. You're reading it wrong.

I'm not attempting anything. I'm just asking the question(s) that apparently nobody want's to answer.

I think we can all agree that Ragnar took his sweet time in getting to apply but I have very hard time believing the result would have been any different had he applied the very same day.

Nitpicking. It's pretty easy to scroll a page these days...

Very good question. The fact that nobody knows when it will be ready is acceptable as long as it is going to be released. But I guess the question still remains if it will be available to anybody owning a copy of ANW or just a select few?

I agree with these points. Only reason I bought H3ANW was db2k. So you can pretty much guess from that, how much I am actually playing this version of the game... Not much.

Do you think we can stay on the subject instead of childish point scoring!
I think it is an important question for all of us past puberty and deserves an answer .
Given that RE was freely available in the past will a similar arrangement be forthcoming in the near future.

and again will people be given the appropriate tools to develop their databases as they see fit ?

Now that the official 3.8 patch is out will some of the scenarios available at harpoonhq be updated to work with 3.8?

To give MY OPINION on the original question;-

1) It depends partly on ANW being updated to run reliably with the silly bugs (sensor window, Sub ESM height mast, guns with infinite range, restricting sat orbit heights etc etc etc) bugs squashed. I have high hopes that 3.8.1 will deliver here. But I have seen no proof of this. I remain optimistic until proven otherwise.

2) It also depends partly on Ragnar wanting to modify DB2K to comply with 3.8 database requirements. Part of that is him getting the tools to do the job (no comment, and no, I haven't offered him my copy of DBEDIT) and partly on his inclination/motivation.

Mr Emsoy feels very upset over his treatment by AGSI over parts of his work being used without his authorisation by third parties, which remain unpunished and therefore CONDONED (in his opinion) by AGSI.

(That's my opinion of his opinion).

It is still technically possible for DB2K to become generally available for ANW users BUT bearing in mind the above, together with the sheer size of the work involved...

... don't hold your breath. It might happen, but there's a couple of issues to be addressed first.

The rest of you muppets throwing oil on the fire... why don't you go write your own databases instead of knocking other people's hard work?

Or at least get the DBEDIT so you can appreciate just how much work is involved in doing a database.

DB2K is not a finished work. It will require a lot of people helping by finding the bugs and inconsistencies in it, and telling Ragar (nicely) about it.

Try doing that instead of throwing crap at each other, eh?

Disruptive and disrespective? I was commenting on a comment that WAS off topic, I was not bashing. Contrary to what you may think I do not want to bitch and blabber but I will try and guard the topic at hand against useless comments only meant to bring the thread in the direction of a catfight, and you know from experience that is what is going to happen then. If you really think that deserves a warning then I guess this earns me the ban?

Now lets get back to the issue at hand.

Im gonna quote cuthbo2001 since he asked a good question that apparently got lost in the mix:
