I hope the URL goes through.  I'm not THE Harry Gilmer.  It is more like a tribute.  On another website I'm cpuller for Chesty Puller.  My name is unique in the U.S.  there are only 2 of us total with the same first name and last name.  I guess that means it isn't quite unique.  But, why I don't use it is that I'm a little paraniod about identity theft so I never use my real name.

Hey AU, congrats on UF win.  I don't like the picture in your profile, though.  I guess I could post a pic of the aftermath of 315.

I'm sorry you don't like the pic in the profile. I will be sure to change it at the end of November.

You do have me thinking though I should change my log in to bjackson.

The "315" reference went over my head I am afraid.

Yup, congrats on the Tigers' victory over the Gators.  It's the only game of the year I pull for Auburn - well, that's not true.  I usually pull for Auburn over Alabama, and usually would over any Yankee team.  Auburn and Georgia are really twins separated at birth.

What a great weekend it was - Florida, Clemson, Notre Dame, and the Mets all lost.

315 is when Coach Bryant (at that time) became the winningest football coach in Divsion 1. It also happened to be a victory over Auburn.

And you may be right. I may not like it come November even more. You may have to update it. But, as Billy the Kid said, "There's a lot of slip 'tween the cup and the lip, sherriff." The teams gotta play it on the field.

Edit - had to put the smileys in cause it's all fun and games.

I may have missed the 315 reference, but I do know how he fared in his last game against Auburn.
The smileys were unnecessary in this case, because I know that beneath all the bonhomie we are enjoying lies sharpened steel.
You going to the game?

You wouldn't say that if you were a Redskin fan. Spurrier screwed them up something terrible trying to bring his collegiate "Ballcoach" ways to the NFL.

I'm a Georgia grad, so Steve Spurrier is the the object of great loathing.  But to be honest I think he's the best college football coach ever.  Is this off topic?

Well, my nick comes from Honda of F1/Tainan Daitai. Saburo's wingman in the New Guinea campaign. Funny thing is, they are both alive in my pbem and it's mid '43 now. Saburo got 2 kills (at least he's alive) but Honda has served me well and has 12 kills! He was a leading ace at one time but lack of action for his daitai kept him from scoring more kills but also kept him alive. Anyway, I think it's a nice story to have a guy you choose your nickame after become a leading ace in your game, even if just for a few months.

Mainly oil companies. I'm in Loiuisiana so it's pretty much dominated by the oil, gas, and shipbuilding industry. I do some plant and refinery work. Once worked in ames research Center for Nasa. I applied to be a space welder. haha but changed my mind because if you quit the job ( A known welder trait) you have a long wait for a ride back to shore. :D

As for myself, in my younger days I was into anime. The name is of the little fella on the avatar who I thought at the time was an incredibly cool dude, as far as cartoon characters go. IIRC it translates as Demon-eye Kyo...or something like that. When I was registering for the forum I was trying to think of something clever and obviously failed. Thankfully, unlike LOGboy, I've grown out of the anime phase.

In school, since about 10th grade or so, my nickname was Extender. In the military I picked up the nickname Blue Ranger. Both of those have their own special stories. I dont know why I didnt pick one of them as a name but what the hey.

Well, Steve, you might have already deduced that my login is related to my last name and my Navy occupation.

While in bootcamp during 1972, my fellow recruits began calling me "Chez" which was shortened from my last name of "Sanchez". That nickname stuck with me throughout my naval career (at least until I made Chief!)

Being a fellow AW you are probably quite familiar with the term "Jezebel" (which is the old codeword for passive acoustic sonar). And of course us AW's always referred to "Jezebel" as "Jez".

The two terms weren't put together until my VP-5 Keflavik deployment in 1976. My crew and I were at debrief following a very successful (and highly visible) prosecution of a new Victor II class SSN. We had detected him several CZs out and localized him quite rapidly. We tracked him and delivered several simulated kills (9 IIRC).

During the debrief, the debriefer asked my TACCO (tactical coordinator) why we had believed it was the sub that far out (he had a non-standard signature). My TACCO said, "Well, you'll have to ask Chez, he's the Jez."

And a new nickname was born... along with my first Navy Achievement Medal...

Chez
aka "ChezDaJez"

Some web pages say that... others mention participation of VP-61 in rather more recent exercises:

http://www.vpnavy.org/vp61_2002.html

EDIT: Kinda odd for a squadron disbanded in 1950 or so to be flying missions in 2002... i think something is weird in the VPNAVY.ORG webpages.

Not sure at this point. I work with a guy who is an Auburn grad and he is very cool about the whole Bama- Auburn thing so he has really opened my eyes about the bitterness we see all too often. So, I assume people are not the "in your face" type fans we're all too familiar with until they actually do get in my face.

I like the U.S.S. Alabama though, if that is any consolation. The Lou Hotlz thing is funny, but didn't you already think he was a maroon - he was still saying ND had a great chance to win out after they were 0-2. Why they put up with him (he talks like Snuffy Smith) is beyond me.

I'll bet it's a typo. VP-62 , 64,66, 67,68,69, 91,92,93,and VP-94 were all reserve squadrons from the early 1970's until fairly recently (VP-92 was just recently decommisioned and I believe it to be the last). I've flown with or worked with most of these Squadrons.

" Why they put up with him (he talks like Snuffy Smith) is beyond me."

It's simple: comic relief.

Also to show what happens to formerly great coaches after a few years in Columbia...
