Big Team WITP

This is the sign up thread for the Big Team WITP game I am trying to organise. See:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1595386&mpage=1&key=?

If you are interested in taking part please post in this thread. If you have any comments regarding the game itself please post those in the other thread.

The size and structure of all commands will depend on the number of commanders. But all commanders will control a mix of forces. Most commanders will be given control of one or more Cruiser, Battleship or Carrier Divisions or Task groups. You will also have a flotilla of Submarines. You will also control one or more Hiko Dan / Koku Sentai / Bomber Groups / Fighter Groups of aircraft. Plus some land forces.

So please let me know if you have any preferences for the sort of forces you want to have. Don’t worry if someone has already selected the area you are most interested, as the game will need multiple Commanders for everything. The Japanese CVs for example will be divided between at least three different commanders.

Please also let me know which side you would prefer to be on. Or is you have no strong preference either way.

Please PM me your email address (or post it here) if you are interested.

Edited to add the link to the game description thread

With big teams I'd expect incredibly long turn cycles. How do you plan to avoid such an issue?

Wow you were quick Before I had posted the game description thread and added the link Hopefully that will explain things.

Basically there will be an orders deadline. As all players will be sending email instructions (not input in to the game instructions) all players can write their turns as soon as they have seen the combat replay. I am hoping the speed of turn issue (a real problem in usual team games) will be one of the selling features of this game

I love working with other players - sign me up.

I can do stock or CHS, but I think stock will be best since more players have it.

intrigued, though such a division of forces could render them inneffective, case in point KB

but still intrigued

Well we have 11 so far. It would be good to get at least one more to make the sides even. But we have enough to make a game even if no more want to join.

Good to hear from you again Bill

I am out this evening and therefore will be hungover tomorrow. I will leave this open until then at least before I divide up the forces and teams and you can start planing.

So far most people have not expressed a preference for which side they want to be on. All who have are on the sides they want. So let me know if any of you decide before I allocate the rest to the teams.

Very few people have said what sort of forces they want. Those who have so far should get them. As you will all have a mix the main question is whether you want to have CVs or not as there are not enough of these to go around. CVs are good of course but the Japanese CV pairs and US CV singletons are likely to end up operating closely with their fellows (within the house rules). Plus the plans are likely to control them closely. So they are the most powerful but probably least independent naval commands. So let me know if you do you want CVs or not.

Also let me know if you think we should play a mod rather than stock and if so which one. Stock has the big advantage of just about everyone having it so no new install. But it is, well, stock....

PS: Edited for mod

I am interested as well.  Allied side.  I like trying to figure out how to deal with this  land system and I can't be trusted with a CV, so a mostly land command would be best for me. China or Burma/India perhaps?

As regards preferences -

I know the allied side a lot better than the Jap, I have both base and CHS games - have never run RHS so would need to do another install. Looked at Big B and thought - mmm, must give it a go sometime. Don't want any China please...... and hate, absolutely hate - I mean really hate the economic side of things.

Can I suggest that when the teams are sorted we look into using Google shared documents as a way of keeping track of what we are doing. This would allow asynchronous discussion and recording of ideas, plans and differences of opinion. It might also be a good way of 'sending' the orders to be actioned.

Hi Roger, I'm not familiar with that. But if you can guide me in how to use it that may be a very good idea. The players will probably want to comunicate by email or forum threads as everyone will be able to use those. Not everyone will want/be able to use it. But somehwere where everyone on a side can see the latest version of the plans, who controls what etc. would be very useful.

I have put you down for the allies. Hope that is OK.

Probably in a few hours when I get home from work. That is if I ever get to work as my car is currently getting its brakes sorted out.

Still time to join

What the heck... count me in.

I'll try my best with whatever assets I get, although I'd prefer allies outside of China. Modwise I suggest xHS, but as I said, open to anything.

Btw, every serious WitP player should be able and willing to install any of the available mods out there, and yes, this includes RHS.

OK I am closing this one as we have enough to start. I am just waiting for the last few who expressed an interest to confirm and send me their email address.

It looks like we will have about 7 a side, maybe 8. It will be stock (with a few minor adjustments). I looked at the latest CHS, NiMod and Big B and they all need new art files at least. Plus apart from the improved OOBs they also often reduce supplies / transport capacity. That may be a good idea in a one v one but I can simply park excess transports or restrict supply if needed without this.

I will be dividing up the forces tomorrow and letting the players know the sides, a bit more about the structure and house rules. Anyone who sends me their email and preference by PM before I do that will be included. Otherwise I will add you as a possible reserve/replacement.

Thanks for all the interest shown.

I'd love to participate in this game.

Since I've played the Japanese in my last several games, I'd like to give the Allies a shot.

CHS is preferable, but Stock is fine also.

One last thing will be the house rules we will be using. Things like are we goind to have PDUs on, Hitorical vs nonhistorical first turn, and if non-historical what rules need to be abided by? etc, etc, etc.

Based on the number of replies so far, this would be a first person shooter game!

If there is still room, I will be game to try it.  I prefer allies.  I only have stock loaded but could be persuaded to try to load another mod.

Oops.  Just noticed that this was closed.  Didn't read the whole thread.  Oh well, I will wait for the AAR then and listen to Feinder berate me on the phone for not loading whatever mod this is so I can look at his turn and comment on his victories or blunders!
