After playing through the tutorial and a small random scenario:
(still learning the game system)

  • it has got a very nice feeling (light & deep)
  • interesting system to organize and supply your forces
  • AI puts up an interesting struggle

The small random scenario reminded me of sweet "Z" memories (by the way the bitmap brothers should do a remake of the classic Z). Although in a turn based fashion you decide on a strategic plan and try to claim a majority of the resources (cities and infrastructure) asap. After that a tense battle develops around better deployment of the units at the right time and place. The decisions around production, research, supply and oob add the spice.

I recommend everybody to take a look at this (I was hesitating, tried to get into Peoples Tactics before, but that one wasn´t my cup of coffee yet. This one is definitly an improvement on UI and presentation. Congratulations Vic!)

Would like to write more, but i have to play the next scenario

I like it a lot too! I've beaten the North Africa scenario..but now I'm not sure what to continue with...everything seems too daunting.

I'm allowing me to write about my impressions from a PT veteran's point of view.

Compared to PT, AT is definitely improved. (Surprise!) The game has a lot more depth and is much more flexible, f.e. units can contain up to 8 subformations (4 before) and more than one of the same type (a rifles/MGs unit would have been impossible in PT). The random map generator is better by a whole world compared to PT's, which wasn't able to drop rivers and swamps ... than it has more flexibility in the chain of command. In PT it was strictly limited to SHQ-THQ-Units, which could be annoying at times. The do-it-yourself-roads are great, too. Ha, I just love it. (Surprise!) Was worth the almost 40€.

Any one notice that the game's music is from 2by3's World at War?

I've always liked it but come on Matrix, VR Games deserves something unique

Victor

Seemed to have like it and it does really fit the game IMHO. Remember we can always change it if Victor wants in a future patch.

Yep, when it started up I thought that I clicked the wrong icon for a moment!

More music and\or sounds would be nice, but I ain't complaining. Not me, no way.

Now I had my first look at a scenario: Africa.

I am impressed.

Thats flexibility, didn´t expect this from the game system. Keep them scenarios coming! I am looking forward to the other scenarios in the game and on the web. (Eager to have a look at the editor)

Boy, what have I missed not looking at PT a second time.

Yeah it always bugs me when a $50 million dollar movie doesn't use a unique theme song. And 90% of the trailers seem to re-use the gladiator or lotr music or a pick from a small list of maybe 6 other tunes, and so on. You'd think with those kinda budgets they could drum up something new. Or is it simply that people really would rather hear something already familiar if its also great?

Personally, in this case, I suggest that Matrix digs into their deep deep pockets and purchase rights to Blondies "Call Me" (The theme from American Gigolo). #1 This builds on the theme of re-using oldies but goodies, #2 You can't then complain they might have instead have been trying to save a buck, and #3 Most importantly I can't think of any song cooler or more fitting than a WWII game opening up to a song like that!

...Blondies "Call Me" (The theme from American Gigolo).

I loved Blondie in my youth...and American Gigolo was an awesome film (back then)

Might the 8 refer to my post and the 8 subformations?

Heh, I'm confused!

To clarify what I think (which is probably wrong);

You can have 8 subformations in a division (used to be 4 with PT)
HQ's can have unlimited subformations and, if more than 8, the pictures turn to text.

I stand corrected.. you're quite right Snoman :)

Maybe the 4 to 8 upgrade from PT to AT is the number of photo's that can be shown then?
