Terminus, you are SUCH A TEASE...

I guess we will hear about the intergration of carriers at war into WITP.

You can play normal turns but you can than fight CV battles in REAL TIME....

With all the wild speculation about what's coming, we will likely be disappointed with whatever it is. I doubt that it is too big because I haven't heard any more programmers were added in the last year or so.

Bill

Adding CAW would not need much reprogramming, just import your TF's into the CAW engine, run the game, and export the results back into WITP.....

Except that CAW and WitP were made by two different companies. And the amount of reprogramming would probably be HUGE.

Ok, as Terminus is reacting in this way, I can remove CAW from the the "possiblity" list

The best bet would be a patch. Maybe a very detailed patch which includes some important changes (some code changes maybe considering how much rumor is generating this non-news in the community)

......................................

Early in my career I got ticked off at my pointy haired boss (as in Dilbert) and got very good at making schedules. I ended up with very accurate schedules, which always shocked me at how long they were when I was done. However, every time I made one of those super detailed schedules, I ended up finishing very close to when I said I would. I also got yelled at by a lot of managers for turning in such a long schedule.

Bill

Amen!

They don't want a schedule as long as it should be so they shorten it. Then when the project turns out to be late it almost always seems to be very close to what you calculated in the first place.

Terminus is right, it isn't a patch.  What's happening is that Matrix is introducing a boxed, boardgame version of WitP.  So now we can play head-to-head with counters just like the old days.  It'll be fun to manually keep track of things like disruption, fatigue, supply levels, HQ range, etc. Imagine the complexity of the Battle Results chart!   If you prefer a game against the "AI," you sit in the other seat to play the "enemy" turn.  Then, when you play your turn, you try to forget what it is the "enemy" is thinking (which is the same thing as a judge instructing a jury to disregard the evidence the jury just heard).

Hmmmm, I still trying to figure out how we are going to email game turns halfway around the globe for this type of game.

The big secret is that we've relocated Terminus to the Matrix Server Room and wired him into the main control computer (it only hurt a little) as well as hooking him up with a beer IV and a rotating selection of sushi. Henceforth, instead of playing the old AI, you will connect to our server and play our new "Terminus"(tm) AI and he will finally have all the time in the world to play WITP.

But seriously, something is coming and I think it will please those of you who've been around the longest the most.

Regards,

- Erik

So, this is an upgrade of Terminus....because right now, I would bet that he is wired to the forum server and is hooked up to a wine cooler IV and a rotating selection of stall potato chips.

I'm guessing they are going to release chs 3 as a part of the officialy supported witp that's just my guess(of course we will have to pay). That way we can get rid of the stock crazyness like jap carriers with flight deck armor

Hasn't 2by3 been working on a more detailed carrier-combat model for Uncommon Valor? Perhaps this December surprise will be that 2by3 intends to work the same model into WITP. That seems more likely to me than melding a real-time game like CAW with a turn-based one. And the same company that makes UV also makes WITP. Anyway, that's my current guess. :)

In the meantime, have we completely frightened off the original poster? LoL. Actually, what I hope he sees here is just what an amazing level of fanaticism this four-year-old game continues to generate. What other computer wargame has a forum as insan...er, as active as this?

This is becoming more mysterious than the ending of the final Sopranos episode.

Who's been around the longest the most? Posters who have been here for years with multi thousands of posts may be the answer.

If you fit in that category please tells us what you would find pleasing WITP wise. Is it a new auto convoy system? Allied production? War in the Mediterranean, official version? Multi-player mode? Something else?

The suggested lite version with all the functionalities of the game but a smaller data base and 7 day turns that someone mentioned above would indeed be interesting.

So how come he only plays Japan? I've been trying to get this stupid AI (Sorry Terminus) to play the Allies but he/it/the borg cannot seem to grasp playing a side without a complicated production system - what's up with that?

Maybe I'm remembering this wrong, but wasn't it stated somewhere earlier that 2by3 has nothing to do with the upcoming surprise?

Well ain't that a fine howdy do! Blatant elitism, I say! New fans are unloved, eh? What kind of deal is this? Tsk. Tsk.

Actually, I'm wondering if he's trying to say that the something will enhance the gaming experience in a very subtle way that only expert players will likely notice as an actual change? Then again in the original announcement it referred to fans of WitP, not the game per se, so I'm curious if that means a new item instead of an improved WitP?

For myself, I'm still trying to get my bearings as the Empire of Japan has been handing me my buttocks for a couple of days now. I'm an unskilled but enthusiastic new player who's never played anything like WitP before. Wow, what a game!

Putting together hints and history, Matrix released War Plan Orange as a separate game.  I believe that started out as a major mod somebody did.  War in the Med came out as a mod earlier this year.  It would not be a major job for the Matrix programmers to go in and change some of the hard coded things in WitP that had to be worked around with WitM and then incorporating the OOB from the WitM mod.

I believe Terminus had been involved in the development of  the WitM mod.  I haven't seen any of the other people involved in the mod in this thread.

So my prediction is that we will get a new game based on the WitP engine: War in the Med.

Bill

Maybe Matrix will provide all current owners of WITP a hot female blonde that can't speak and will constantly bring us beer while we play. (hey, might be just as realistic as some of the other guesses)

I guess I remembered wrong. Oh well.

Do we really want Terminus wired into the server? He already lives here.

I'll stick with my hot readhead. She's very quiet, tolerant, and easy going. She plays a lot of her games, so she can't really throw stones when I play something.
